Bulgaria Orphanage Receives Salvation Bracelets

By Katherine T. Phan|katherine@christianpost.com

There’s a new way to learn about salvation in Bulgaria. Assemblies of God (A/G) missionaries handed out tri-colored bracelets to 50 orphans at Dupnitsa Children’s Home as part of an outreach to the orphanage.

A/G missionary Kevin Beery and A/G pastors Don and Nancy Williams distributed colored bracelets that had white, black and red colors. Beery and the Williams also brought along their children.

They used the bracelets to explain what most Christians know today through the four spiritual laws. The white represented God’s holiness, black – man’s sinfulness and red—Christ’s cleansing blood.

The outreach to the Dupnitsa home was started by students from Sofia Pentecostal Bible College, located in the same city as the orphanage. College students have been helping the children at Dupnitsa through puppet teams, special music, gifts and compassionate aid.

Beery and the Williams also brought their children who wanted to help, which made the trip more fruitful.

"The orphanage leaders were open to the presentation of the gospel because the children were not threatening," says Beery.

Originally, the Williams were senior associate pastors at First A/G in Fort Wayne, Indiana but came to Bulgaria to teach at Sofia Pentecostal Bible College. Beery has been the director of Sofia Pentecostal Bible College while his wife Wendy has served as a Bulgaria missionary for almost ten years.

According to Wendy Beery, many children at the orphanage have lost their parents by death or abandonment. At the Dupnitsa home, the children have not only found rest in Christ but also in their comfortable surroundings, thanks to the help of A/G, who remodeled the dorm rooms of the orphanage.

It was a balmy California evening. I had gone for a jog before I was to speak at a leadership conference. I still can't recall how I got there, but I found myself sitting on a curb
