FALKVILLE, Ala. (AP) - The 125-year-old First United Methodist Church, a historic structure on Main Street, went up in flames Monday afternoon.
Authorities said the church's sanctuary was gutted and its tall steeple collapsed in the fire, which was reported to firefighters shortly after 12 noon.
No one was hurt.
The church's pastor said about 100 people had attended Sunday morning services. Investigators with the state Fire Marshal's office are trying to determine how it started.
