TechnoratiThe evangelical head of Poland expressed concern of the country’s low number of evangelical missionaries during a European evangelical conference that concluded over the weekend.

“We probably have the lowest number of evangelical missionaries of any country in the world,” said Wladislaw Dwulat, the general secretary of the Polish Evangelical Alliance, at the European Evangelical Alliance (EEA) and the European Evangelical Missionary Alliance (EEMA) General Assemblies, according to an EEA release on Saturday.
Dwulat said there are only about 40,000 evangelicals and 180 evangelical missionaries in Poland out of a population over 40 million.
“We need to move the 10-40 window higher up, because we are in need of missionaries from the east and the west to present Christ in the best ways possible,” the evangelical leader said.
However, Dwulat told European leaders present that the statistics can change with the launch of the “Year of Evangelical Christians in Poland” – a series of initiatives to raise awareness of the evangelical community and strengthen its connections in Poland.
“I believe big changes will take place in Poland because of your prayers,” the general secretary said.
The EEA and EEMA conference was held in Warsaw this year with more than 150 evangelical leaders from 38 European countries gathering from Oct. 17-21.
The weeklong conference closed on an optimistic note with the general secretary of the EEA reminding European Christian leaders of the great hope for European Christianity.
“We all have a sense that our spiritually dark continent is experiencing more signs of light than many of us had realized,” said Gordon Showell-Rogers, general director of the EEA. “In our largely secularized continent, it has been hugely encouraging to hear more fresh stories of God at work through one another.”
Showell-Rogers concluded, “The Assembly has focused on rekindling our passion for Christ, and bringing real hope to our spiritually hopeless continent. We are convinced that the Living Christ can once more shape the whole region for good, as His children serve Him together.”
