10 Most Redeeming Films of 2006

By Kevin Jackson|Christian Post Reporter

Christianity Today recently announced its “10 Most Redeeming Films of 2006” with the top spot going to The Nativity Story, a movie that made history by being the first ever to premiere at the Vatican.

The Nativity Story hit the top spot on Christianity Today's '10 Most Redeeming Films.'

The Carol Stream, Ill.-based Evangelical magazine chose the movies according to whether they had a focus on redemption, even if that theme was only a subtle one.

“They're all stories of redemption—sometimes blatantly, sometimes less so,” explained Christianity Today on its list which released earlier this week. “Several of them literally have a character that represents a redeemer; one even includes the Redeemer. With others, you might have to look a bit harder for the redemptive thread, but it's certainly there.”

The magazine chose four true stories as their highest ranking films while the other six were fictional tales. This was noted simply as coincidence.

Their “10 Most Redeeming Films” are as follows:

10. Children of Men directed by Alfonso Cuarón
9. Akeelah and the Bee directed by Doug Atchison
8. The Three Burials of Mequiades Estrada directed by Tommy Lee Jones
7. Tsotsi directed by Gavin Hood
6. Charlotte's Web directed by Gary Winick
5. The Second Chance directed by Steve Taylor
4. Joyeux Noel directed by Christian Carion
3. Sophie Scholl: The Final Days directed by Marc Rothemund
2. The New World directed by Terrence Malick
1. The Nativity Story directed by Catherine Hardwicke

A description and review of each of the movies is available on the web at www.christianitytoday.com.
