Christian Prayer Warriors to Unleash ‘Shockwave’ for Muslim Countries

By Michelle Vu|Christian Post Reporter

An army of thousands of prayer warriors around the world is preparing to unleash the power of prayer this weekend to combat Christian persecution, particularly in Muslim dominated countries.

Young Christians in 27 different countries around the world are uniting in prayer for the persecuted Christians on Mar. 2-4. The sixth annual “Shockwave” is organized by Underground, the youth ministry of Open Doors.

“Our brothers and sisters have told us what they need,” said Brother Andrew, founder of Open Doors, in a statement. “First, and most important, they have begged us to pray.

“It’s been the same throughout my 52 years of ministry; wherever I’ve gone to encourage my brothers and sisters, they have always requested prayer.”

Christians in free countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, Brazil, France, Germany and Canada will pray for their oppressed brothers and sisters. Open Doors informed that Christians living in countries without real religious freedom (the country may declare it respect all religions on paper) will also participate in the global event including Indonesia, Iraq and the United Arab Emirates.

Participants are urged to pray particularly for Christians in the Muslim World; 35 of the top 50 countries on the latest Open Doors World Watch List are predominantly Muslim.

Moreover, six out of the Open Doors’ list of ten worst Christian persecution countries were ones where Islam is the dominant religion. They include: Saudi Arabia, Iran, Somalia, Maldives, Yemen and Afghanistan.

According to the ministry, there are an estimated 200 million Christians worldwide suffering from interrogation, arrest and even death for their faith in Christ. An additional 200 to 400 million Christians face discrimination and alienation.

The 2007 Open Doors Top 10 Christian Persecutors are:
1. North Korea
2. Saudi Arabia
3. Iran
4. Somalia
5. Maldives
6. Yemen
7. Bhutan
8. Vietnam
9. Laos
10. Afghanistan
