The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation will soon allow gay prisoners conjugal visits with their registered partners. This is a mistake of massive proportions, but entirely predictable.
You see, California is one of several states that allows civil unions between homosexuals and grants them the same legal rights as married heterosexual couples. Proponents of gay marriage and civil unions claim they arent undermining traditional marriage, rather they just want the same rights for homosexuals that heterosexuals have.
Nonsense. As any BreakPoint listener or reader knows, Ive said repeatedly that gay marriage is nothing less than the direct assault on the institution of marriage and the family unitthe foundation of any civilization. Ive also warned that granting homosexual couples the same rights as married heterosexual couples will have disastrous real-life consequences.
Take adoption, for example. In Massachusetts, Catholic Charities of Boston was forced to shut down its century-old adoption agency. Why? Because the state ordered the agency to place children with homosexual couples. Catholic Charities, Im glad to say, refused, not only on religious grounds, but because it did not want to put children in jeopardy.
Studies are now showing that children raised by homosexual couples as opposed to those raised by a heterosexual mom and dad, suffer significant increase in low self-esteem, stress, confusion regarding sexual identity, an increase in mental illness, drug use, promiscuity, sexually transmitted diseases and homosexual behavior.
And what about religious marriage ceremonies? Dont be surprised if one day Christian clergy are forced to perform weddings for homosexual couples. Either that, or lose their state licenses to perform marriages. It hasnt happened yet, but I fear its just a matter of time.
But lets look at these conjugal rights for gay prisoners: the latest result of tampering with the natural order of things and thousands of years of human civilization. The biggest problem in prisons today is homosexual sex, particularly predatory sex. Ive walked through prisons and seen blood on the floor where inmates have been raped. Most of the fights, most of the stabbings, most of the dangerous situations arise over tensions that come from homosexual behavior. In fact, homosexual sexconsensual and otherwiseis rampant behind bars.
Thats why its taken yearsand the threat of an ACLU lawsuitfor the California Department of Corrections to finally allow conjugal visits for gay prisoners. The spokeswoman for the Department diplomatically told the New York Times: the slow pace of change was due, in part, to considerations of whether allowing the visits would expose gay inmates to danger inside the prison, where they are sometimes singled out for attack.
Well, no kidding. Simply put, thanks to the fact that California law grants legal status to homosexual couples, the Department of Corrections has no choice: It must now officially sanction behavior that is demonstrably dangerous in a prison environment.
Ideas have consequences, folks. So, when the gay marriage bandwagon comes to your state, be prepared to speak out. Get those referenda on the ballots, and hurry! Because when government tampers with the natural order, as it is doing today, and undermines the foundational institution of society, bad things are sure to follow.
Their willingness to die is no excuse for indifference on our part.
