TechnoratiA massive evangelism and homebuilding outreach involving big-name Christian bands Newsboys and Skillet and some 800 teens from the youth ministry Teen Mania will descend upon Baja, Mexico, in less than two weeks.
The effort to build 28 homes and a classroom in nine days combined with a variety of evangelism activities will be one of the largest outreaches – if not the largest outreach – in the 15 year history of the host organization Baja Christian Ministries (BCM).
Youth leader Ron Luce’s popular Teen Mania/Global Expeditions (GE) ministries will bring some 800-900 teenagers from all over the United States to build 22 homes and carry out mass evangelism July 29-Aug. 3.
During that time period, award-winning band Skillet and hundreds of other Christian and church groups will also help build homes for Baja residents. In addition, teen missionaries will conduct open air preaching, house-to-house evangelism, and mime and puppet outreaches in the poor villages of Baja, where the majority of homes are dilapidated make-shift shelters.
“When they see Americans coming down giving up their money, their time, their love and their resources – it is very much a shining light,” said Bob Sanders, BCM founder, to The Christian Post during a recent previous trip.
“It really helps us break ground in the hearts of the people that are seeing the Gospel in the face and eyes of the workers,” he added. “So when we communicate the Gospel, they are wide open.”
Newsboys, a regular BCM participant, will join the mission group Global Tribe of New Zealand for one day on July 26 just days before the Global Expeditions crew arrives for their outreach. Global Tribe will serve for four days beginning on July 24.
Yet preparations for the massive outreach less than two weeks away are far from over. BCM’s Sanders alerted The Christian Post that there is still a significant shortage of skilled volunteers needed for the Global Expeditions mission period on July 29-Aug. 3.
Sanders said the organization is in dire need of the following resources:
-15 skilled carpenters or craftsman who can read blueprints and lead the team of teens
-50 bilingual translators to work with evangelism teams
-25 Barnabas team members who can serve refreshments and offer encouraging prayers
-$5,000 to cover water and refreshments and scholarship for those who can serve but cannot afford lodging and food
“We have been beating the bushes, turning over stones, and casting our nets to gather more of these important support team members, but are still significantly short of the specific necessary people in all three groups,” wrote Sanders in a prayer letter.
“Please pray to the Lord of the harvest to touch hearts, to get this message to those He has prepared for this outreach, and to send our way these needed support team members.”
Baja Christian Ministry was founded in 1992 by Bob Sanders who had been ministering to the poor in Mexico since 1984. The Christian organization is dedicated to serving the physical and spiritual needs of the impoverished in Mexico in the name of Jesus Christ. BCM has provided over 1,000 homes to families in greater Tijuana, Mexico.
