Jesus Film's 'Operation Jericho' Re-Targeting French-Speaking Africans

By Robert Williams|Christian Post Correspondent

The JESUS Film ministry is asking Christians to pray for this year’s “Operation Jericho,” which is being conducted to bring people in French-speaking African countries to Christ.

”Operation Jericho,” which is aimed at 17 francophone countries located in Africa, is a combination of evangelism, discipleship and training. Last year's operation included approximately 30 showings of the "Jesus" film and delivered the Gospel to more than 80,000 people over the course of six days, reported the JESUS Film ministry.

Approximately 9,000 last year chose to receive Jesus Christ as their Savior. At one of the evening showings in Benin, 600 out of the thousands of viewers responded to the invitation to trust Christ.

“Operation Jericho” is continuing this year through December 2007 with numerous conferences being held in 65 cities within the 17 francophone nations.

The JESUS Film ministry is asking Christians to pray for favor with customs officials in the chosen locations so that hundreds of the sets of equipment and "Jesus" film print to be used for “Operation Jericho” can be cleared.

In addition, the ministry is also asking everyone to pray for an outpouring of God's Spirit so that many will come to Christ and Christians there will be transformed.

I must agree that discipleship is a probelm, but frankly it's a problem with the entire church, not just with the Jesus Film Project. that's why we're losing scores and scores of members. It's certainly not because our "cultural relevance" is lacking like the Church has so erroneously believed. How can people face this modern world of challenges simply by sitting and listening to a 45 minute sermon once a week when they're not discipled to be able to challenge that same world?

Jesus said "make disciples" not "make an audience". After you evangelize them; disciple them - with real discipleship and not just some short class on what it means to be a Christian. Get real!

out of the 600 that responded to the invitaiton. how many will get a follow up visit or will the 600 just be forgot about. This is what happens. they respond, but no one follows up to keep them in the faith,
