MySpace 'Queen' Tila Tequila: I Made Amends with God

By Nathan Black|Christian Post Reporter

Tila Tequila, whose bisexual reality dating series premieres on MTV next week, recently exposed her personal spiritual journey on how she found God.

Her testimony was posted last week on her popular MySpace blog in reaction to conservative Christian comments opposing the upcoming show – "A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila" – where she stars with 32 straight men and lesbians who compete to impress her.

Although acknowledging that the show would raise controversy, she wrote, "I just want to say that I am truly blessed to have had an opportunity to share with the world and teach the world that it is OK to be who you are! Gay or not! So thank you MTV for giving me this opportunity."

Tequila, whose real last name is Nguyen, has some 2 million "friends" on MySpace, making her the most popular girl in the social network's history and earning her the label "queen of MySpace." She's also dubbed the "Madonna of MySpace" as she built her celebrity status online with racy photos and videos, Tila merchandise and album singles.

But the popular 25-year-old entertainer whose online friends keep growing was once down a lonely path, with no love or support from anyone, as she described on her blog.

"Growing up, I felt like I had no one to turn to in times of need, who would be there for me with open arms without judgment when I felt hopeless," Tequila wrote. "I lived in a lonely shattered world and tried to commit suicide quite a few times from a very young and tender age starting at 11 [years] to 22 years of age.

"That is until I made amends with God," she added.

Tequila said she didn't meet God in a church, which she had avoided going to with her "'gay' problems." And she didn't meet the God worshipped by churches that preached condemnation. Instead, she said she made amends with "the God that I can feel and hear in my own heart."

"This is what saved my life," she wrote.

"I stopped feeling bad about myself because I was told that I was a 'bad' person for whatever reasons and opinions," Tequila explained. "That's when I turned my life around. I accepted me for who I am in all my glory. I accepted the fact that God would love me as long as my heart is good."

With that, she blasted churches for "bashing" on the gay community.

"The church should understand that they have a higher responsibility to teach the youth about unconditional love, and how we can spread the love, not why being gay is a bad thing," she wrote.

If churches don’t spread the love, Tequila says she will.

"[N]ow that I've endured all of that pain, maybe God put me on this path so that I would be able to share with everyone else who may be going through the same things?"

Her comments come as an overwhelming majority of the American public, Christians and non-Christians alike, believe present-day Christianity is "anti-homosexual," as revealed by a recent Barna Group poll.

"As the research probed this perception, non-Christians and Christians explained that beyond their recognition that Christians oppose homosexuality, they believe that Christians show excessive contempt and unloving attitudes towards gays and lesbians," the Barna report stated

Young Christians largely criticize the Church, saying it has made homosexuality a "bigger sin" than anything else and that the Church has not helped them apply the biblical teaching on homosexuality to their friendships with gays and lesbians.

"In a perfect world, God would have the churches teach us how to love one another, no matter who, what, when and where," stated Tequila on her blog.

Despite widely held negative views against Christianity, more churches are learning to look beyond the sin of homosexuality and to love the homosexual.

Last week, gay rights advocates of Equality Florida staged a protest in front of Bell Shoals Baptist Church in Brandon, Fla., opposing a meeting held at the church that they said encouraged bigotry to gays. But the church's lead pastor, the Rev. Forrest Pollock, and its members stood by proclaiming that they love the protestors, including gays and lesbians, and invited them to attend church services.

Tim Wilkins, president of Cross Ministry and a former homosexual, says more evangelicals are becoming proactive in reaching out to homosexuals. Wilkins speaks at churches and schools equipping Christians to disciple homosexual persons. While the church has the responsibility to proclaim the message that homosexual behavior is a sin, he stresses the greater need to speak the truth in love and to share the redemptive message of Christ with homosexuals.

As Dr. Rick Martin, pastor at Jesus Is Lord Ministries – a professional Christian counseling service – puts it: "Jesus forgave. Jesus accepted people (not necessarily their actions/behaviors). Jesus interacted with 'tax gatherers and sinners.'"

Martin further pointed to the Scriptures for instruction on what to do regarding the sins of others, citing Galatians 6:1.

”Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted,” he said, according to the Lansing State Journal.

As for Tila Tequila, the “queen of MySpace” says she's thankful she found God and has come off the lonely path.

"All I know is that I just want to love and be loved. I don't care what color your skin is or what your gender is. Love is just love and it is a beautiful thing we should all be able to experience!" she wrote.

"</i>It is God's place to judge, ... anyone who claims to have the authority to do so, ..., is in danger of hell."</I>

Then why are you judging those who claim they have the authority to do so?

First of all, the so-called prohibitions on homosexuality are misinterpretations. The exhortation against men loving themselves has to do with pride and ego. In the latter days, men will be lovers of themselves and as we can plainly see with all of the mega-egos that claim to lead Christianity we are a hair's breadth away from judgement.

Many of you self-professed Christians would do well to not only read the actual Bible for yourselves, but apply some rational thinking to how it applies to your daily life.

Jesus said that we are to love one another. It is God's place to judge, not man's and anyone who claims to have the authority to do so, rather than loving all their fellow men and women, is in danger of hell.

For those of you who try to pervert God's word for economic or political gain - be reminded that the Bible also tells us that for those who would lead his flock astray, it would be better if a millstone were hung around his neck and be drowned.

    Love all, judge none.

It is stated, in the Bible, that homosexuality is a sin. No one can deny it. If they do, they obviously have not read the Bible. Although, it also states that you are a sinner if you steal, commit adultery, covet another's possessions, or use the Lord's name in vain. If homosexuals are to be condemned, then we all should be condemned. No one can say that they have never sinned in their entire life. So, if someone wants to say that a gay person is going to hell, then even though I'm a christian and I'm straight, I'm going to hell too, because I have sinned just as much, if not more, than someone who is gay. It's like the story of the prostitute who was going to be stoned. Jesus said that the first one to throw the stone should be the one who never sinned and no one threw a single stone at the prostitute. No one should say how terrible gays are unless they are perfect themselves.

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Excerpt taken from a commentary by Roger Oakland named The Inclusive Gospel from www.understandthetimes.org

".............The new evangelization program being promoted by the emerging church, while it may be in the name of Christ, is antichrist. A formula has been established to provide a bridge that has the potential to unite all religious beliefs in the name of Christ, by circumventing the gospel of Jesus Christ.

In the future we will see all faiths join together based on a common mystical experience accompanied by “lying signs and wonders”. The apostasy the Bible warned would be apparent in the Last Days is now fully underway. Only those who hold firm to God’s Word will be protected and delivered. This remnant of faithful believers will be viewed as old-fashioned narrow-minded holdouts who are a hindrance to the establishment of the “kingdom.” As Paul wrote to Timothy, in the Last Days:

Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. [15]"

    [15] 2 Timothy 3: 12-13

Only the Blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ can cleanse us of all unrighteousness and filthy sin - this does include many other things, but as it pertains to this article - adultery, fornication, and yes, homosexuality. Too many in today's church want to cover up sin, and be politically relevent to today's "culture". They water-down the Wrod of God, and twist it to make it seem more "pleasant" to the ears. Many people want to hear what feesds their ego; they don;t want to hear the truth that transforms lives for their own good and for God's pleasure.

The Bible tells us that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. None of us are without sin. The Good News is that Jesus Christ became God in the flesh for us! He decended from his exalted heavenly place, and willfully shed His Prescious Blood and gave up His life so that we may have a relationship with God the Father our Creator.

We need to first acknowledge that we are all sinners; we need to repent - that is to literally and willfully choose to turn away from our old life of living in sins; we need to ask for forgiveness and accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior of our lives (this means we hand over our free will to Him, and choose toi obey His commands and teachings). We must put our total trust and confidence ino Him, and then follow Him.

The question is, have we trully repented, and turned back from our sin. That is to say, if we're willfully, and rebelliously living in sin, have we made a conscious choice to turn from that sin, die to ourselves, pick up our crosses daily and follow Christ?

None of these sins are unpardonable, but God has given us a free choice. We must choose this day whom we will serve. Are we going to choose to gratify our flesh and live in sin, or are we going to die to ourselves, and choose to follow Christ Jesus?

Whoever doesn't truly know Christ on this site, please give your life to him. You will not regret it. He will never bring up your past. We all have pasts, but God can make you a new person, and as you continue to seek after Him and as you surrender your life to Him, He will continue to mold you and make you into the vessel of honor He wants you to be. I hope this touches someone out there, and may the Lord turn your heart to repentance. God Bless You.

    Yes_I_am_a_Jew,

'for starters I am both Jewish by birth and by religion, albeit at a level you would likely consider heresy.'

Why would I consider that heresy? My one-day-to-be-wife is Jewish, albeit she is my fellow sister in Christ.

'In addition to my Jewish education I've studied world religions ranging from Buddhism to Taoism to Ancient Mystery Cults to Early Christianity. So let it suffice to say that I have a fairly open mind to understanding beliefs and seeing how they build upon similar allegories and themes.'

Right on. I have studied these as well, yet none can compare to the absolute majesty that is apparent throughout the Bible.

'Sometimes translations impart the ideas of the translator just as much as the original author's. Talmudic scholars have debated the meanings and requirements of the rules and writings of Judaism for centuries, so that goes to show how much religion can change and evolve.'

Yes, yes the whole translations argument. Nothing to see here folks, just move along.

'n the end I simply don't care for the manner in which people like Zenodaddy decide that this is what the Lord has ordained to be propper and if you're not this particular way then you're destined for eternal damnation.'

No worries Jewish person. It is not I who decides on one's salvation or not, but the individual. If you go back through the Old Testament, you will see the requirements for salvation plainly given to you by Yahweh (Jesus) Himself. Do not be upset with me, but be upset at God. Will you go to hell? I have no idea, that is the Lord's ultimate decision.

'If you're relying strictly on scripture then there's little I can say to you other than to recommend doing some researching on the history of early christianity, including the apocrypha and gnosticism.'

I have studied extensively about the early development of Christianity. This is a benefit of having a dad who is a theologian. As for the apocrypha and gnosticism... which specific texts are you referring to? The gospel of Thomas, of Mary... differing ideas about who Jesus was and is? You know, the earliest controversy in the church was not that Jesus was not Divine, but that He was human...

'It's no sin to learn about the origin of your beliefs and provided that you're willing to do so with an open mind you'll be surprised what you find.'

You know I find it ironic that only a person with an 'open mind' can be surprised with what they find out with their faith... considering the only people who say that are closed minded themselves. I have studied God's Word extensively for 6+ years. Systematic Theology has become one of my favorite subjects as a matter of fact and you are right, I have been surprised at what I have found... the utter majesty and brilliance of our Creator.

Forgive the delayed response, duties of the outside world had to be taken care of before the amusement of a website.

Zenodaddy, for starters I am both Jewish by birth and by religion, albeit at a level you would likely consider heresy. I take pride in my heritage, in that Judaism is just as much a culture as it is a religion, composed of a variety of streams from the ultra-orthodox hassidim to the less strict reconstructionists. In addition to my Jewish education I've studied world religions ranging from Buddhism to Taoism to Ancient Mystery Cults to Early Christianity. So let it suffice to say that I have a fairly open mind to understanding beliefs and seeing how they build upon similar allegories and themes.

Do I strictly follow the dictates of Judaism? Not a chance. I live my life as my conscience tells me and I observe what I feel is important. When Yom Kippur comes along I fast along with my family and friends but I refuse to carry hatred and intolerance embodied in any book into my life and interactions with others. Sometimes translations impart the ideas of the translator just as much as the original author's. Talmudic scholars have debated the meanings and requirements of the rules and writings of Judaism for centuries, so that goes to show how much religion can change and evolve.

In the end I simply don't care for the manner in which people like Zenodaddy decide that this is what the Lord has ordained to be propper and if you're not this particular way then you're destined for eternal damnation. If you're relying strictly on scripture then there's little I can say to you other than to recommend doing some researching on the history of early christianity, including the apocrypha and gnosticism. It's no sin to learn about the origin of your beliefs and provided that you're willing to do so with an open mind you'll be surprised what you find.

I have always had a problem with pornography, since my dad gave me "nudie" playing cards at 9 years of age. I have seen pictures of Tila, who is a gorgeous Asian girl, defiling her body for my pleasure, and many others as well. You can make up a God of your own imagination and workship it, but don't fool yourself that it is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. You can comfort your own heart with the whispers of the prince of this world, and be soothed while you're here, but don't think that means entry into God's paradise. No doubt that God is more forgiving that those who call themselves His, but He's also more exacting. God has a standard that is impossible to attain without His gracious assistance, and that standard is NOT the human heart and imagination.

    Yes_I_am_a_Jew,

'it's ironic that you find that a person who openly admits that she accepts all people other than those who are intolerant perverted in her views.'

    Come again? Thank You.

'So much for the concept of the loving Christian...'

Thank You!! Christian Love has nothing to do with condoning homosexuality. Even in the Old Testament God (The Father, and Yahweh) condemned homosexuality to the fullest extend. Please do not get all holier then thou on us.

'Frankly I respect Tila for finding a way to connect with G-d in her own way.'

    Good for you. Applause anyone?

'For better or worse the Church was not an option to her, with it's viewpoint on homosexuality.'

So God is not an option for her either. Go read your Torah.

'Certainly there is a degree of fame seeking involved in the creation of such a show, but since when has entertainment and entreprenurial spirit been evil?'

Since she will be making out with members of the same sex, and courting them along with men. Show me where your God condones this and I will show you the Hebrews God that celebrated the Hebrews worshiping Baal.

'Children are not taught to be gay. They either are or they are not.'

I find it ironic how you claim to be a Jew and flatly regard anything your God has told you as well.

'If Tila says she has found G-d and made ammends then wonderful for her.'

Yes, God allows all to go to heaven and allows us to do anything we wish to get there... Are you Jewish by birth or are you Jewish by your belief in Yahweh?

'Unworthy, it must be wonderful to live in a constructed reality where you take pleasure in the exclusion of others from salvation.'

We do not exclude anyone from God's act of Salvation, they themselves chose not to be included.

'It is this kind of reaction that inspires such revulsion against Christians by those outside the faith.'

Actually, it would be Jesus of Nazareth that causes such revulsion, our beliefs are just a ruse.

To the Jew who responded. You obviously don't believe your heritage or the commands of the Torah given to Moses. Lev. 18 clearly denounces homosexual practice as evil, and warrants puring of the community for it's preservation of holiness. The city of Sodom was burned by fire by Adonai because of its licentious homosexual behavior. As the Lord God declares that He never changes, this standard for holiness was carried on into the new covenant through Y'eshua. Thos who believe and follow God as He has revealed Himself in His word, know that homosexual practice is a result of human desires and needs that are warped by humanity's sinful (rebellious) behavior. That is, apart from the grace of God found in the Messiah, people are naturally unable to follow or love God's ways. There is not a one person who always does what is right and never sins (Ecc. 7:20). It's only when we can come to the Messiah in brokeness and humility that we can be made whole and restored to the life Adonai created us for (Isaiah 53:11).

Zenodaddy, it's ironic that you find that a person who openly admits that she accepts all people other than those who are intolerant perverted in her views. So much for the concept of the loving Christian...

Frankly I respect Tila for finding a way to connect with G-d in her own way. For better or worse the Church was not an option to her, with it's viewpoint on homosexuality. Contrary to what is the general belief here, I believe that homosexuals are as they were made and should be respected and accepted just as any other person. Certainly there is a degree of fame seeking involved in the creation of such a show, but since when has entertainment and entreprenurial spirit been evil? It is not as if anyone is forced to watch her show. If parents don't approve of their children watching it, then they should spend their time being active parents rather than cause-chasing protesters. The time spent rallying to the FCC and organizing letter writing campaigns could be better spent actually parenting. Furthermore, despite the widely held fears of children seeing such a show and "catching homosexuality" that's a ridiculous notion. Children are not taught to be gay. They either are or they are not. Perhaps seeing something is accepted may coerce them to be more honest and truthful with those around them but this is not a pandemic that spreads like wildfire.

If Tila says she has found G-d and made ammends then wonderful for her. In that no one but Tila can identify what is happening in her mind or heart there is no real way to judge what she feels or believes.

Unworthy, it must be wonderful to live in a constructed reality where you take pleasure in the exclusion of others from salvation. It is this kind of reaction that inspires such revulsion against Christians by those outside the faith.
