Dozens of black conservative leaders nationwide are expressing support for Republican White House contender Mike Huckabee, who they believe best represents the values of American conservatives.

The African American leaders praise the former Arkansas governor’s track record on traditional values; his support for education and immigration reforms; his tax policies, which they say allows for economic growth; and his good relations with the black community.
“The fact that 47 percent of African-American voters supported the reelection of Governor Huckabee in 2002 is testament to this laudable achievement improving the lives of Arkansans across the entire economic range,” wrote Donald E. Scoggins, president of Republicans for Black Empowerment and organizer of the list, in a statement.
Scoggins, who is endorsing Huckabee as an individual, also pointed to the “unprecedented” number of appointments of African-Americans, about 300, to state boards, commissions and key executive level positions within the Arkansas state government under Huckabee’s administration.
“We are proud and honored to give our support to the bid of Mike Huckabee to become the Republican Party’s nominee as the next President of the United States of America,” the statement reads.
Among the black leaders supporting Huckabee, according to Scoggins, are Star Parker, founder and president of CURE (Coalition on Urban Renewal & Education); the Rev. Dean Nelson, executive director of the Network of Politically Active Christians; and Bishop Imagene B. Stewart, national president of African American Women’s Clergy Association.
Scoggins said the complete list will be announced by the Huckabee campaign in mid-January right before the South Carolina primary.
Meanwhile, Democratic Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois has prompted several black South Carolina ministers to say recently that they had not endorsed the presidential hopeful despite their names appearing on a list compiled by his campaign.
Several of the black ministers on the list of nearly 130 told the Associated Press they had not decided on who they will vote for and was unclear how they ended up on the list of endorsers.
In South Carolina and in general, African-American voters have overwhelmingly supported Democratic candidates, but those supporting Huckabee are among a small but growing number of black conservatives who vote according to issues rather than based on their racial community.

The only "immigration reform" which businesspeople and our ultra-humanist friends desire is open borders. These "conserves" only conserve that which serves them.
The Humanists are under the mistaken impression that immigrants love them; uh, gues what--they don't.

Exactly... I am referring to the ones here illegally. Mike isn't 'all' bad... he is like our President now, just a better speaker. Personally... I really do not want another 4-8 years of Bush... I, we, need someone new... We need someone strong against the war which Mike may well be... we need someone who believes in a smaller government role which Mike does not believe... we need someone who will continue to cut taxes... which Mike may do (we don't know yet)... we need someone who will elect conservative judges for the Supreme Court (which Mike would probably do)... etc, etc
My concern with Mike is that he has questionable practices to say the least. He seems more like an opportunist than anything else... I want someone in the White House who is a fellow Christian... but frankly... this election we do not have much to go on... Mike may be our guy... Thompson may be our guy... it is still too early to tell...
I refuse to let Christian imagery cloud my judgment.
zenodaddy, I know for a fact there are Hispanics here who receive the same wage as co-workers. One of my sons owns his own business and employs many of them; he says they are excellent workers. He only hires the ones who are here legally, and he pays them even more than some of his workers who don't work as hard.

Why do I say slave like? Because... we will never pay them as much as we pay American's to do the job... cheap, uneducated labor... which translates... slave labor.

Mike Huckabee is clearly a strong, dedicated Christian that I believe would make an excellent President. His positions are clearly Biblical although not necessarily Republican; I choose the former over the latter. As a 50 year old who has consistently voted Republican, I cannot fathom the lack of charity of the party to immigrants. By and large, these are people pursuing life, liberty and happiness. They are largely Christian (Catholic) and have positions that align with conservativism, not liberalism. In 20 years, Republicans will rue the day that they forced all of those votes into the Democratic party and Christians will rue their lack of compassion and selfishness. Biblically, we should support our brothers and sisters in Christ and politically, we should look to the future.
Huckleberry is the best hope the Democrats have in this election. He would be easy to beat, and would loose in a landslide against almost anyone.

Unfortunately, Thompson is problematic for several reasons, including his lack of experience and his lack of personal support for Godly morals. At this point, I would like to see Huckabee take the presidency and get tougher on illegal immigration.
