Top Republican presidential contenders were rated on their family values claim by a leading West Coast pro-family organization in a report card released Wednesday.
-
(from top left clockwise) Republican presidential hopefuls Mike Huckabee, Ron Paul, Rudy Giuliani, and Fred Thompson.
California-based Campaign for Children and Families (CCF) compiled the Report Card on the Natural Family which graded six GOP candidates on their protection of the basic family unit.
The organization reviewed the candidates positions in published votes, policies, public statements and documents to see how they defended the natural family a father, a mother, and their children. The greatest weight was given to actual votes, actions and policies rather than recent statements that differ from past policies, statements or actions, CCF explained.
Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee and Texas Congressman Ron Paul received the highest rating with seven out of a possible eight points. Sen. John McCain of Arizona received four points, followed by former Sen. Fred Thompson of Tennessee with three points. Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani was given the next to lowest rating, one point, by the pro-family organization.
Surprisingly, self-proclaimed family values champion, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, received the lowest score of zero points by the pro-family group.
While all of the leading Republican candidates claim to embrace family values, let the record show that theyre marching to different drummers on marriage rights, adoption, schoolchildren, and the destructive LGBT agenda, said CCF president Randy Thomasson.
The candidates were scored in the categories of protection of civil marriage rights for one man and one woman; protection of the natural family, the boy scouts, and school children; and support for adoption by both a father and mother.
Topics such as adoption by homosexual couples, hate crime laws, and homosexual education in public schools were specific subcategories used to grade the candidates.
The pro-family group said that the leading Democratic candidates, meanwhile, support nearly all of the homosexual, bisexual, and transsexual agenda.
As always, what a candidate does means much more than what they say. Facts are stubborn things, Thomasson noted. The CCF president said he is a registered independent and will compare candidates from both major parties later this year.
The Campaign for Children and Families is a pro-family organization that seeks to mobilize citizens to support family values in the culture, media and government.

HP, by what standard do you deem family values to be trivial and other issues more important?
Ok, I'm a fool.
Lets forget about domestic situations. Lets turn our back on the true definition of marriage. Terrorists don't have to do much, if you think about it. America is destroying itself from the inside out by allowing all this immoral garbage to go on. Yes, we may win the war for oil, and the war on terror. But our morals and ethics will subvert us and rip our country apart. And we will become the next "used to be". The rest of the world already owns so much of America, lets not put another nail in the coffin.
I know I'm slow, but I just don't get it! We are in the throes of an illegal and immoral war, our economy is going down the tubes daily, our elected representatives (from both parties) are out of control and ignoring the expressed will of the American people, the rest of the world thinks we are a rogue nation more to be feared than China or Russia and our country is being overrun with illegal aliens.
With all this going on, all God's Own Party can focus on, according to this report is sex? Who does what to whom? This is the equivalent of the obscene focus we seem to have on the antics of blond airheads who like to drink and party.
When are we going to stop focusing on the trivial and start challenging our leaders to act on the things that are really important, for goodness sake. What is more important, the fact that an American citizen can be held without trial or bail if someone thinks he/she might be a terrorist, or how many gays are marrying in Mass.
Do you think that protection of the "natural family" whatever that is is more important and has more effect on your life then the oil war in Iraq that is killing our economy along with our finest young people?
I'm sorry, if you think so, you are a fool.
I see what you mean Poo
Mitt Romney got a 0 on this scorecard because he supports ENDA, and also hasn't been a social conservative long enough. To be honest while I appreciate Romney's conversion to Social Conservativism, he should have stayed as a governor for 4 more years and demonstrated that he will vote that way.
And who gives CCF the authority to make such claims, and quite frankley who gives a care what they think? If they want to know who has good family values, spend some time with the candidate, they are dead wrong on this one. They just don't like Romney becuase he is Mormon.
This "Family Values" test is no litmus for being a faithful Christian. Bush would rate highly, but is still Pro-Torture, among his many other sins. I would vote for McCain (who knows how off-track this country is) if he wasn't a strong Bush supporter in 2004. When is the Christian "Right", including CCF, going to rebuke this madness?
"And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him." Luke 12:4-5
