The Power of Forgiveness

By Carl Moeller|Christian Post Contributor

“Many people have asked me why forgave these killers. They say if it had happened to them, they would want revenge. I felt the same way. But the Bible told me something different. For me to be able to forgive these killers, I could only do it through the Word of God. God’s Word tells us that we must forgive. And not only to forgive, but to love those who hate us.

“My anger was strong, but God’s peace and love were stronger. I was able to accept that God’s will was perfect for my daughter. And so I let go of my right for revenge.”

Yanni’s Mother: “When I first heard that Yanni was dead, especially the way she was killed, I was broken. So I prayed to God for strength, or else I would not be able to go on. When I saw my daughter’s body the first thing I did was cry, and then I fell on her body, and I cried to her, ‘Yanni, my daughter, why have you left me? Why have you left your mother?’ Then I also asked God for strength because it was too much for me. I am much, much better now. I know it is because many people have prayed for me.

“I think of when Jesus was on the cross. And He saw those who put Him up there and He said, ‘Father please forgive them, they know not what they are doing.’ That verse helped me see that if my Lord can forgive those who put Him up on that cross, then I surely can forgive the men who killed my daughter because I want to be like Jesus.”

Wow! Those are some of the most powerful testimonies I have ever read. The Lord truly has set their hearts free from the anger and resentment they held for these murderers of their precious friends and daughters. We all can learn so much from the examples of the strong faith of persecuted Christians. And these three women certainly have done that for me ... a message of grace and mercy I will never forget.

All my brothers and sisters in Christ:

Our Great Lord and Redeemer Jesus Christ is alive and well in INDONESIA. INDONESIA here means the nation with largest MUSLIM population in the WORLD.
According to WIKIPEDIA Christians in Indonesia make around 9-11% of the population. But through conversion, Christians are already reaching 12-15% of total population 234+millions -AND STILL GROWING.
Here the body of Christ is STANDING UNITED especially after year 2000 CHRISTMAS EVE BOMBING OF NUMEROUS CHURCHES. Therefore we have ROMAN CATHOLICS, LUTHERANS, CALVINIST, PENTECOSTAL EVANGELICAL, BAPTIST and CHARISMATIC -including small community of ORTHODOX CHRISTIANS. Especially the CHARISMATIC where Spirit of the Lord are working wonders and great miracles. Doors are opened, Needs are fulfilled, Things are found. The fast growing numbers of Christians are the main reason of unrest in Mollucas and Central Sulawesi Poso. But brothers and sisters in the Army and Mobile Police squad are taking care of those in Jemaah Islamiyah, a vassal of Al Qaeda.
As for you, please help us through PGI (Unity of Indonesian Churces)

Blessed be the Lord, who daily carries our burden; JESUS Lord of our salvation

kaishinden79--Surely, the current president and administration is also to blame, but the problem precedes the current administration and is supported more broadly in our society as we pay homage to our entertainment industry. As a nation in polls, we claim not to support Bush, but we don't turn off our TV sets and really listen to Jesus' teaching in the Sermon on the Mount.

Somehow we are too removed from Jesus' guidance in the Sermon on the Mount. When it comes to practicing the ethic of God's reign, we revert of the Hollywood ideals of glory, power, revenger, and force rather than accept the gospel message that love is truly greater than force, power, and coercion.
