TechnoratiGodTube.com, the Christian answer to the popular YouTube phenomenon, announced Monday its intention to begin election polling for the 2008 presidential race.
The website, which takes on the motto “Broadcast Him,” was founded last spring and claims to draw over 250,000 registered Christian users and millions of unique visitors every month.
“Our Christian user base is very vocal and active in the election,” commented Chris Wyatt, founder and CEO, in a statement. “We look forward to having the leading candidates participate in this interactive community by engaging our users online with video commentary and live town hall style chats."
As candidates across the political spectrum have increasingly voiced their faith in public, some believe GodTube may play an important role in mobilizing Christians to vote on matters of faith.
In a recent poll, 48.5 percent of GodTube users said a candidate’s faith is “very important” in making their voting decision.
Former Baptist minister and Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, who currently leads GodTube’s poll, talked about GodTube’s important role in politics and the election process.
“The whole point of being a Christian is to penetrate the darkness, is to preserve the things that are spoiling, and I don't know of anything more spoiled, more decadent, than politics,” Huckabee asserted.
“If there's ever a place where there ought to be a concentration of Christian activity and involvement, I'd say it's in politics and government. GodTube is helping to be that bridge to get people from the world of the spiritual into the mission field of politics."
Huckabee currently leads among candidates in the poll with 37.7 percent of users favoring him, while Barack Obama trails him in second place with 24.4 percent of the vote.
Since Monday, over 10,000 users have voted on the website poll.
