Huckabee Fights Off Rumor of Quitting Race

By Michelle A. Vu|Christian Post Reporter

Mike Huckabee has seen better campaign days than in recent weeks. But the not easily discouraged Republican underdog is not ready to throw in the towel, and readily shoots down rumors that he will soon end his bid for the presidency.

“I am not a quitter,” Huckabee emphasized, according to CBS News Friday. “I did not get to where I am in life by quitting.”

“I was in it when nobody thought I could be. I stayed in it when nobody thought I could. I continue to march on even when the de-facto-absolutely-guaranteed-frontrunner-going-to-win -the-nomination-going-to-be the-next-president-kind of guys were so out in front of me that people didn’t take me seriously.”

“But today, Rudy Giuliani is not in the race, Fred Thompson is not in the race…A bunch of folks have fallen to the wayside, and I’m still here. So, I plan to still be here,” the former Arkansas governor stressed.

Huckabee – who has come in third or fourth in most of the contests after his acclaimed Iowa victory – vented his frustration with how the media had dismissed him as a serious Republican contender and depicted the GOP contest as a two man race between Sen. John McCain of Arizona and former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney.

After winning Florida this week, McCain is currently the Republican frontrunner having previously won New Hampshire and South Carolina. In second place is Romney who claimed victory in Wyoming, Michigan and Nevada. Huckabee has so far won only one state – Iowa.

“I’m staying in the race because I still think I can win,” a determined Huckabee retorted Thursday at the suggestion that he drop out of the race while speaking in San Francisco, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

“You’ll have to beat me, because you’re not going to discourage me,” he added.

Huckabee argued that a candidate needed to have 1,191 delegates in order to be the nominee, but so far no one has even garnered 100 delegates.

“There’s only eight percent of the delegates have yet been tabulated, and we’re all fairly close to each other in the amount of delegates that any of the three of us have,” the former Arkansas governor pointed out matter-of-factly to reporters.

He repeatedly emphasized that he is the only conservative Republican candidate and aggressively countered the idea that Romney should be considered a conservative given his past records and stance.

The cash-strapped Huckabee also highlighted that he raised $3.5 million in January and bashed Romney for spending “tens of millions of dollars” but having “the same market share as me.”

On Feb. 5, better known as Super Tuesday, Huckabee will fight against the odds and compete against the two better financed and organized campaigns in 21 states.

Harald Hardrada I really think you need to research Mr. Huckabee B4 you say anything. Your mindset is like numerous in the christian camp, well he is a believer in Christ. He is a very liberal man and there are more issues than abortion. Please don't be narrow minded on one issue. Ron Paul is the only candidate that is 100% republican and conservative, the others are just RINO's. FYI Huckabee has spoken to the CFR and has ties...so please be careful.

    Chris333,

i am wrong about what exactly? Huckster has been trailing by double digits in national polls and it seems he only did well in the south last night (no suprise). Personally I liked Ron Paul from the GOP, but he's doing even worse and there is no sense in backing a loosing canidate at this point.

“Mormons think all Christians are heretics and apostates”

Whaaahh! Christians, particularly the Evangelicals are the ones that decry that Mormons are a cult. Don't you recall the Pat Robertson and Jerry Farwell moments on such things?

“The lying biased media describes this as a two man race between Romney and Mccain....even though Huckabee is tied with Romney”

Lying biased media huh? FOX news is about as bias towards conservative propaganda as it gets and EVEN their polls show Huckster is trailing big time. It’s hardly even a 2 man race at this point. McCain’s lead over Romney is about as large as the lead Romney has over Huckster. Huckster should concede that he lost.

Please everyone, vote for Mike Huckabee today! Romney was a mormon bishop and that goes ignored, but still the media describes Huckabee as a minister even though he has more executive experience than any one in the race, democrat or republican.(10.5 years as Governor+ 3years as Lt. Governor) Mormons think all Christians are heretics and apostates...Romney does not stand a chance of winning any states today(maybe Utah and Mass.). The lying biased media describes this as a two man race between Romney and Mccain....even though Huckabee is tied with Romney. Both Romney and Mccain and Hillary and Obama are one world government believing CFR members. Everyone of them (besides Huckabee)will be instrumental in the formation of the north American Union...which they plan on implementing by 2010! A one world government is prophesied in the Bible and when created, will be taken over by blackmail(by both oil and nuclear terrorism)by the islamists as prophesied in the Bible! A revitilized version of the empire succeeding the empire at the time of Jesus is the islamic caliphate or a revitilized version of the islamic caliphate. All Christians and patriotic Americans need to unite today and vote in Mike Huckabee!

    RASMUSSEN:
    McCain 48% Clinton 40%
    McCain 47% Obama 41%

Following six years of GOP brand damage, those numbers are impressive. We’ve yet to see any polls showing Romney winning a match-up with either Clinton or Obama.

Radio talk show host and columnist Michael Medved has written a good column called “Six Big Lies about John McCain.” Only problem is Medved's take on McCain-Feingold Campaign Finance Reform is wrong, it is causing problems. "A legal battle over advertisements for a new documentary about Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton illustrates the folly of current campaign-finance laws, says the attorney for the producers of the film...
"Hillary: The Movie" is "a political documentary like Michael Moore or Al Gore has made," said James Bopp, who went to federal court last week to represent the movie's producers. Yet the conservative group Citizens United, which produced the Clinton film, must "go to court to get permission to advertise the film... because of McCain-Feingold," he said."

John McCain is trying to cheat and lie to win this election. It’s just like when he cheated on his disabled wife and eventually divorced her for his rich, younger mistress.

It’s also like the Keating 5, when McCain cheated the American tax payers out of hundreds of millions of dollars.

Since McCain can’t really talk about his senate record (amnesty, against tax cuts, 50 cent gasoline tax, etc.) he tries to play up his “character”. I think his character is despicable. Cheating on and divorcing a crippled wife, wow that’s bad.

Mitt is going all the way!!!

The Europeans laugh at Americans because in Europe politicians never talk about gods. In America the candidates for president are constantly talking about the invisible man who lives in the clouds. Huckabee has talked about his childish god fantasy more than all the other candidates combined. Huckabee and the people who voted for him have made our country a laughing-stock. Imagine a president Huckabee who would stick god into our constitution. He would make America look like Iran.

Huckabee knows less about science than most grammar school students. He said he doesn't even know how old the earth is. The truth is Huckabee thinks the earth is just thousands of years old. He can't say that because he knows if he did say that every scientist in the world would tell him how incredibly stupid he is. Huckabee doesn't even know humans are primates.

Huckabee wants a theocracy and he wants to destroy science education. A president Huckabee would be a disaster for the entire world. Not to worry, the extremists who would vote for Huckabee might be almost a majority in hick infested states like Iowa, but he lost badly in god-soaked states like South Carolina and Florida. Huckabee's political career is over. This preacher man can go back to his old job of spreading lies about science in church.

lossnerp, Here is what he has been saying as part of his stump speaches:

"[Some of my opponents] do not want to change the Constitution, but I believe it's a lot easier to change the constitution than it would be to change the word of the living God, and that's what we need to do is to amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards rather than try to change God's standards,"

The above words were from Huck. I heard it first on "Meet the Press". I went back and found the clip on-line. His words were essentially the same as quoted above. I did not get it from "media spin" as you claim. I heard it myself from Huck. In fact ,as I listened, it came to me as a surprise that a serious US presidential candidate would make statements along these lines. It reminded me of the silly stuff Pat Robertson says periodically. Huck's statement was broad and not limited to "amendments to protect life" as you claim. You are now spreading misinformation. We secular american's have little to worry about though, Huck will end up where Robertson is now: a political non-entity.

    have a good day...............

edcdic- You are right. A lot of Americans are very dumb. You proved that point. By the way, I have personaly know of 5 long term democrats and independants that are anxious to vote for him in the fall, when they couldn't vote for him in the primaries. Many democrats will step all over themselves to vote for Huckabee when faced with a choice between Obama and Clinton.

citsona- That is what I am talking about. People make statements without studying the issues. You obviously were listening to the medias spin on the statement instead of Huckabees statement itself. He NEVER said that. He said there are some things in the constitution that do need to be amended for clarification, just like the other amendments that have already been done throughout the history of this nation. The right for women and blacks to be treated equally is an example. The right to bear arms is another. Huckabee's only statement regrading this issue is that yes, the Constitution needs to be amended to define marriage as one man and one woman only because that is the basis of our society. If we allow it to be defined by anything else, it opens it up to what ever the evil mind can conceive. Additionally, he does believe in a Constitutional amendment to protect life. ALL LIFE! If you can find something wrong with that, then ....... what can I say. You also have proved edcdic point.

I urge all of you to vote your convictions, and not be swayed by all the media hogwash. The election will be decided by you, not by the media and not by the pollsters, and if you change your vote based on their propaganda, you've allowed them to determine the winner. Your voice is worth more than that! Don't sell out your candidate. Be steadfast, not wavering with every wind, but be faithful and true to your own convictions. We, the people will decide this race if we are faithful, but if we betray our candidate, we are like Judas, and will reap what we sow.

I am battling frustration and depression these days over this election. Those of us that are Huckabee supporters are most disappointed in the church. Mike Huckabee has been labeled the leader in just about every debate he has entered. His conviction, humor, and wisdom, along with his record and experience have shown he is the clear choice for president. Yet the media continues to write him off as a nothing and the church blindly follows the media. If every person that called themselves a Christian were to truly study the voting records and history of each, there is no choice but Huckabee. And if each Christian then voted according to what they know is right, Huckabee would win easily. If he doesn't, then the story of "Facing the Giants" needs to be taken off the shelves and destroyed, because it is a lie. Honesty, integrity, humility, and hard work mean nothing up against money and power. If he does win, it will be another of the great story of God taking His people through the impossible. Huckabee has asked everyone to pray for five smooth stones for Friday. I pray the church doesn't use their stones to kill their own in battle.

If Huckabee has anything to do with a GOP presidential campaign after Super Tuesday, the Democrats are going to make it look like Romney was taking it pretty easy on him.

This summer when the moment seems just right, they’ll start off with his sellout to the tobacco industry and all of his ethics violations and his misuse of public office for personal greed.

The “wedding” gift registry he used to shake people down after leaving the governor’s office won’t seem like a big deal at first.

But Democrats will expand on the picture of greed, bringing up the Jonesboro school shooting and how Huckabee promised survivors no one would profit from it, only to cut a book deal a few days later and reject pleas to share the proceeds in the form of scholarships.

Use of another Huckabee book will start establishing his dishonesty along with his greed, when Democrats start having fun with what they’ll portray as his pretense that dieting took 110 pounds off him, rather than bariatric surgery or some similar procedure.

At this point some fringe blog will use public doubt about Huckabee’s character to seek traction for a charge that will attract heavy web site traffic when played correctly: the dog torture incident.

Everyone knows there is something seriously wrong in a family when a teen old enough to be a Boy Scout counselor tortures or helps torture a dog: It was hung by a wire, stoned and had its throat slit.

Democrats will say it is especially wrong when the crime is minimized and the father steps between the son and a state police investigation, then fires the guy who would not immediately back off. The guy who says he suffered the injustice loves an audience and liberal mainstream media will be only too happy to provide him one at the perfect time. Juicy!

Then they will take Huckabee to task for granting convicted criminals 1,033 pardons and commutations of sentence – about twice as many acts of amnesty as his three predecessors in the governors office combined.

After Huckabee pressured a parole board to release a sex offender early, the rapist went on to murder a mother in Missouri. And people who don’t have a special loyalty to Huckabee are going to be outraged by this as it gets more and more attention.

He pardoned or commuted the sentences of 669 criminals, including 11 murderers. And this time instead of media playing down the evangelical connection, it is going to be played up.

The way Democrats will portray it, criminals who said they were saved will have used pastors to get special consideration from Huckabee. And you know they’ll ask if the pastors and Huckabee got anything in return, and they’ll ask in a way that implies corruption. (Remember all the ethics violations and gift demands?)

Liberal mainstream media may wait for fringe blogs to raise these subjects, but then they’ll report on what the blogs have been saying with glee. It won’t be pretty.

Mike Huckabee reminds me of a great marathon distance runner. While other leaders in the race drop out from the shear fatigue, Mike keeps hanging in the race like a real runner does to the end.

While the other runners have gold plated shoes on that cushion each blow, Mike has his worn out Dollar store running shoes still on with holes in it keeping up with them with shear guts and determination.

While others are out there with the spotlight on them as the perceived winners, Mike is hanging on like a world class runner within striking distance.

Let's all hope that Mike Huckabee NEVER gets out of the race until he has WON the Presidency of the United States! He is the ONE true conservative remaining. He is a GREAT CANDIDATE with a broad appeal due to his likability, sense of humor and sincerity. He is the ONLY candidate who shares all our conservative values - especially our SOCIAL VALUES. Lot's of LIP-SERVICE has been paid to social values for many years with little real effort made. Huckabee has a PROVEN RECORD of ACTION on these issues and an obvious and passionate commitment to continue to work for these VITALLY IMPORTANT issues in the future. We owe it to Mike Huckabee and to every right principle and to ourselves to vote our CONCIOUNSE when OUR turn to vote comes.
