NYC Hit by Christian Anti-Media Teen Rally

By Michelle A. Vu|Christian Post Reporter

The Teen Mania founder ended his statement on an encouraging note, saying that over the past year or two he has noticed churches and whole denominations trying to reclaim the younger generation from pop culture.

“We are seeing thousands [of churches] jump on board saying ‘we want to double the size of our [youth] group,’” Luce said about the movement to “rescue the next gen.”

“It’s not just the cool youth pastor, but the whole church,” he pointed out. “Where the grandparents are loving the kids and baking them brownies and mentoring them. Mom and dads are getting involved and business people are getting involved. So if the youth pastor has a plan to double the size, the whole church is an advocate – they pray more, give more, they volunteer more.”

Luce, the self-described former “teenage party animal,” said excitedly: “So come on, let’s jump on board and show this nation that the people of God love young people more than MTV does, more than the drug dealers do. We love them and we are going to go after them.”

Following the rally, more than 10,000 teens gathered at New Jersey’s Izod Center for a two-day Recreate ’08 event featuring New York Yankees’ pitcher Mariano Rivera, six-time Grammy Award winner Kirk Franklin, the David Crowder Band, Bishop T.D. Jakes, and Teen Mania founder Ron Luce.

This is exactly what NYC needs right now. This is a good, rich city, where the poorer kids end up trying to act like the rich, because they have the most fun and freedom, usually. So if we've got all these kids out there telling the world to stop buying into the subtly sicko messages controlled by God knows what greedy super rich empire, then maybe there's hope for this great USA of ours after all.

I must admit that I am probably guilty of not giving much credit to todays youth (even Christian youth). My faith in God working through today's youth is restored a liltte more.

I find the article that citizen posted a few responses down actually pointless. Besides the fact that the author only rails against Catholics ( as he fooleshly assumes Catholics are the only type of Christian in the world) he also blathers on about how the Pope and the "inner circle" of cardinals excommunicate people for questioning his knowledge. Point of fact, i agree that the Papacy has no greater connection to God than does any other believer. The author also lists tons of things that Christian people have done that are horrible. To that i say, we are followers of Christ but not him so we are not perfect nor should we ever claim to be. The difference between a Believer and a non-beleiver is that the Believer will seek repentance for the evils he does daily while the non-believer continues to walk blindly in darkness pretending they are on the right path.

Bottom Line - modern gurus make amny great claims yet none of them have lived up to the claims they have made. Jesus Christ is the only one that has lived up to his claims and will continue to do so until the end of time.

It was a balmy California evening. I had gone for a jog before I was to speak at a leadership conference. I still can't recall how I got there, but I found myself sitting on a curb
