I know that your arn't but I am not in a postion to twist your arm to convice you, doesn't work that way anyways. I pray God becomes very real to you sir and to your family. This God I serve has taken a very ugly person and turned him into someone with some redeeming qualities, given him wisdom beyond his limits and a love for everybody, (even tho I do seem to be a bit harsh at times), no matter what their walk in life is, that I never had before. I have no need for a heaven, I dont believe either heaven or hell exist. Members of my family can decide for themselves, I dont really discuss it with them, its unimportant to me, if its important to them they can seek out religious folks and discuss it with them, so far, dont think they care either.

My interest in religion is related more to the political aspects of it. Religon itself is very uninteresting to me, its not part of my life, not interested in it. My interests are in science, thats what I study, thats what I do for a living. I was put on this earth without consultation, put in a particular circumstance that I am not entirely satisfied with, but manage to get through life and try to be responsible to my family and society. Its all random- ones lot in life, some got it good, some dont. Its really the roll of the dice

And YES I do think your world view is wrong, Jesus said I am the way the truth and the life, So yes I do believe that anybody that doesn't confess that Jesus is Lord and repent, turn away from their sins and follow His commandments is wrong, Does that mean that there isn't decent folk out there that don't believe lots of em. What's more you and your family may be one of them and that is a good thing. But it doesn't get you or them to heaven. Since ya brought it up my statement is this if you are a Christian, really anybody for that matter and you vote for someone who is for the killing of babies and the destruction of the family as it was intended to be then you are just as guilty as them and the blood of the innocent ones will are crying out to this God. I have a family and I dont kill babies, so what are you getting at there Tom? What is "my kind". Is "my kind" wrong because I consider myself an agnostic and have a view of the world that is different than yours. You are right and the rest of the the world is wrong-is that what you are saying? You have the correct religion and everyone else is wrong- IN YOUR MIND TOM, thats all it is. One not need be religious to be decent. In fact some of the most unpleasant and mean spirited people I have ever come across call themselves Christian- go to church every Sunday and the whole nine yards, yet treat their fellow humans rather badly. I sure wouldn't want to spend an eternity in a theocratic heaven wiith any of them.

To us who believe in a Creator who died for us, it does or should matter, because it matters to our Lord. You believe in blaming America first, (despite the fact that it seems we are a most desirable place for those seeking freedom and the fact we spend more money trying to help those in need then any other country) and i chose to look at the fact and blame the murders of a corrupt religion that are bent on destroying everthing that doesn't bow down to their god. A world view that will use men women kids and the handicap to kill or injure innocent people. People who would be considered one of there own. No, actually not. Back then getting into the guard was a ticket out of 'nam. There was a long list off applicants to get into the Texas Air National Guard, with family connections he was able to get to the front of the line. george wanted no part of getting his cute face all shot up in 'nam. But hey, he didn't mind some else going in his place. He didn't fly in the guard, he was basically awol, he never showed for his medical flight examinations. Its is speculated he wouldn't pass the drugs tests. The other chicknehawk cheney managed about 6 deferments to avoid draft. He too advocated the war, but he rather some else go instead.. Clinton, not my hero by the way, was at least consistent- he opposed the war on moral grounds.

seriously Tom, you really should learn something of the world, your knowledge of history is truly lacking. Please study up a bit on American Imperialism and read up on the story of bush and the guard. Your fairy-tale view of the world really damages your creditability.

Actually the US and Europe declared war on the peoples of the Middle East long ago, going back to the fall of the Ottomans at the end of WWI. The US and Europe coveted, as they do today, ME oil. They sell the US oil.. And by the way, Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11, it might have been more appropriate for the US to invade Saudi Arabia and overthrow the royal dictatorship, thats where 90 % of the hijackers on 9-11 came from. It is Saudi money that funds the extremists groups around the world. Oh i almost forgot, the US cant invade Saudi Arabia, they are our business partners, as Saddam use to be before he started to conduct himself in a manner inconsistant with US interests. The US didn't seem to mind when Saddam was gassing the Kurds in the 1980's- because he was our friend and business parrtner. Heres something you might not know, woman in Iran (and Iraq under Saddam) have more rights than woman in Saudi Arabia- they cant drive, they cant go out without a related male escort, its difficult for them to get work or get educations. Religious police are on constant prowl for "offenders of the faith", you might like that part though for here in the US- a religious police.

Every war we have ever fought we have let the President and the Generals fight as they see fit. SInce 911 our volunteer army has held them in their own land, nay defeat them and they have done well. I don't know if it is true or not, but I have been told that Obama will not salute the American flag. I have been told his father was a Muslim and his step-dad introduced him to Islam. I have been told that he was taught under Wahabism, which is supposed to be a radical Muslim belief which many of the terrorists are currently engaged in, who are waging war against the US. I was also told that when Obama was sworn into office, he didn't use the Bible to be sworn in by, but used the Koran. I've been told that he refuses to recite the Pledge of Allegiance or show reverence to the US flag. I was told that the terrorists plan to destroy the US from the inside out, and what better way of doing that then putting on of their own in the Office of the President of the US. Again, I don't know if this information is true or not, but we need to be checking into it.......SERIOUSLY!

Objection to the hate crimes bill is an issue of free speech and religious tolerance. The problem with the Democratic Party is that it is run by special interests groups. Many life-long Dems have been social conservatives and have come to recognize that the party has all but been taken over by homosexual activists. When given the choice on the ballot only one state declined from supporting a marriage protection act as between one man and one woman. This is a democratic republic, not an African tyrannical government where Obama hails from that imposes public policy to the detriment of free speech, trampling the rights of the voters. The hate crimes bill is discriminatory in policy, in that it creates a “better to mug grandma” mentality. The single case used to fuel the pet policy has been revisited and clearly has nothing to do with “hate” as was supposed. The hate Crimes Bill does nothing but impose restrictions such as reading Bible passages which condemn homosexual practices, whether in the pulpit, the street or online. In Canada, one can be fined for merely posting a negative comment about homosexuality. This is an imposition on a minority sexual deviant practice, that does not deserve racially protected status.

Let's look at Obama's ideology from this position: Acts 4:34 and 35 says... "Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, and laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need." This describes the essence of Christian giving and benevolence, as they were inspired by the Holy Spirit. However, there became a slogan in the 19th century, "from each according to his ability. to each according to his needs" that has unfortunately supplanted the Christian concept of benevolence. This slogan was invented by Karl Marx, the father of communism! Many Christians now believe that their benevolence must be enacted through the power of government, which is Marxism! True Christian giving comes from one's own heart, not from using a system of power to extract from others. Socialism is when the people believe that government is God, communism is when government BECOMES God!

Karla, can I first say thank you for sharing your story. It broke my heart and I pray that God is healing yours.

Second of all, I got excited when I saw the title of the article because I am an evanglical wondering if Barack Obama should be my candidate of choice. Unfortunately, this article didn't offer much in the way of reasoned argument. Instead I was amazed at the exaggeration and inflammatory statements that Dr. Beam's used to try and deter us from Obama, instead of reasoning through the issues. Why call Obama a "nightmare" or declare his "entire movement" to be based on "emotion and adrenaline". These are obviously not completely true statements, and because Dr. Beam chose to mix what could be a kernal of truth with exageration and emotion, I'm turned off by his arguments. Suggesting that Obama has something in common with a snake-oil salesman or guru? That's just name calling. In fact your level of rude just makes me desire a gentleman's politics even more. If we don't have that to offer, why call ourselves Christians?

I did like the comparison to the Beatles, because that analogy has a nice surprise ending--they were the best band ever! Perhaps you are actually prophecying that Obama will turn out to the be real thing! But comparing Obama to Marx and Castro, which you insinuated by saying his "change" might turn out to be their kind of "change", is a silly, fearmongering, low blow.

Dr. Beam says that "Yet, some Evangelicals are flocking to Obama as if he the words he speaks are on par with Holy Writ." Again, how rude! I am guessing that he is simply trying to say some evangelicals are attracted to Obama, yet he denigrates our interest in Obama by exaggerating our response. Of course I do not believe Obama's words are on par with the Bible. Who would ever believe that? Can Dr. Beam make a point without attacking the person he are trying to convince? If not, then maybe political apologetics isn't the best fit for him.

Unfortunately the points he did try to make without offensive rhetoric, that Obama voted for an anti-hate crimes bill (like I would!) and against the death tax (again I agree) and border-security legislation to help with immigrant reform (the only Christlike option in my book)...well these all make me feel like perhaps Obama IS my candidate.

So perhaps I'm not the person you are writing to convince (although I am an evangelical Christian), but if you do feel it is your role to help me think through these issues, I'd appreciate a real article with real reasoning instead of this radio-talk-show-host-like hype. Then we could actually hear your concerns and make an informed decision.

Yes and as A Christian I will state my case and rest it on what the Bible says will you?

So instead of supporting people who are against the murder of innocent babies and for the defense of marriage you wish to vote for someone who would continue to advocate the killing of unborn children even at the point of being born into this world. (And you dare say that you are a follower of Jesus Christ?) You would support someone like that Why, So we can bring back the soldiers who are fighting and yes dieing for a war that was thrusted upon us on Sept 11th 2001. My we have short memories.
