DALLAS - It's official President Bush's presidential library will be housed at Southern Methodist University.
SMU trustees on Friday approved the agreement with the Bush Foundation, which will manage construction and raise money for the project.
The 11,000-student private university is the alma mater of first lady Laura Bush and was the apparent front-runner in the library competition in December 2006. Some faculty members grumbled against the project when they found out the library and museum complex would include an institute, or think tank, that would further the views of the Bush administration.
In March 2007, the South Central Jurisdiction of the United Methodist Church voted in favor of leasing the land on the campus of SMU.
The private university in Dallas has been in exclusive negotiations for more than a year. So the only surprise was when not if the deal would be announced.
The library and museum will be run by the National Archives and Records Administration. A public policy institute at the site will be run by the Bush Foundation.
