Republican presidential hopeful, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, talks with reporters and supporters at the entrance to Focus on the Family headquarters in Colorado Springs, Colo., Friday, Feb. 22, 2008. Huckabee met with Focus on the Family founder Dr. James Dobson in private.

The two Christian leaders, who have been friends for 14 years, refused to disclose the specifics of their discussion, revealing only that it was an informal “personal meeting.” Dobson had endorsed Huckabee two weeks ago after former Republican candidate Mitt Romney suspended his campaign.

“This was a long-planned private conversation between two friends and Dr. Dobson wanted to keep it that way,” said Gary Schneeberger, a Dobson spokesman, according to The Associated Press. “It’s certainly not meant to temper his support of the governor.”

The presidential candidate was in Colorado to speak at the Leadership Program of the Rockies, a bi-partisan conservative training forum for political activists. When questioned why he left the campaign trail for the second paid speaking event in a week he responded:

“If I were a sitting senator, I would be expected to be in Washington, that’s how I would get my paycheck,” Huckabee said to reporters, and about 25 supporters. “Unfortunately, the people I’m paying to be sitting senators aren’t showing up at their desk,” he said, taking a swipe at presidential candidates John McCain, Barack Obama, and Hillary Clinton – all sitting U.S. senators.

“You know, if you don’t show up at work, you get fired. These guys aren’t showing up for work and are expecting us to give them a better job.”

Huckabee had said last week when attending a paid speaking event in the Caribbean that he needed to attend such conferences to pay his bills.

The former Arkansas governor, although badly trailing McCain, remained optimistic about his candidacy and said he would keep fighting for Colorado delegates.

“There’s 46 delegates at stake in Colorado that could be mine,” Huckabee said to cheering supporters, referring to the state delegates won by Romney.

Dick Wadhams, Colorado chair of the Republican Party, said the Feb. 5 caucus where Huckabee came in third after Romney and McCain was a “preference poll” and the delegates are still up for grabs, according to AP.

The former Arkansas governor appeared in a "Weekend Update" segment of “Saturday Night Live” where he said he won’t "overstay his welcome."

He described his confusion over whether it is mathematically impossible for him to win the nomination over front-runner John McCain.

"I'm not a math guy, I'm more of a miracle guy,” he responded to anchorman Seth Meyers who explained the numbers. “So at this point I'm gonna focus on the miracle part."

However, he said, "Mike Huckabee does not overstay his welcome. When it's time for me to go, I'll know. And I'll exit out with class and grace."

Then he remained seated at the "Update" desk even though Meyers made it clear it was time for him to leave, according to AP.

“SNL” is known for its political humor.

Currently, Huckabee has 254 delegates compared to McCain’s 958 delegates out of the 1,191 needed to win the nomination. Romney, who dropped out of the race earlier this month, had collected 280 delegates and has endorsed McCain.

Truly truly I say unto you, if Mike Huckabee's voice is not heard somewhere in the white house, Barak Hussein Obama will be the next president of the United States. (period) And thus we will be living in the age of antichrist right smack through the tribulation to the horror of many and John Hagee.

You know what? I am so displeased with the republican party right now about how they have not paid closer attention to Mike Huckabee's Campaign and strategic plan to help this country that I by conviction must vote for Mike Huckabee as my write-in candidate if he is at the very least not selected as McCains running mate. Mow our nation is headed either to more war or socialism all because we have allowed the arrogant media and political masons to cherry pick the variour nominees of the two largest political parties. Meanwhile, various interest groups who once detested McCain are now jocking for position to be his "lap dog." I have always liked John McCain and never had anything bad to say about him. But I like Mike Huckabee a bit better. Texas and Ohio just vote for Mike Huckabee just this one time.

I just hope that the American people will get out and vote in this election, but I would bet that there will be a low voter turn out, because most of them don’t care who is in office, or they are tired of all the garbage they are hearing now and will say my vote will not matter. Well, people here is a new flash for you one day when you are not longer free I want you to remember that.

I know my vote may not go the way I vote, because the stupid electoral collage will vote as they want too, no matter how the voters vote. So it just a dog and pony show in the long run.

I just hope the people will vote the way they want to not the way some religious leader or brain dead fool tell them too.

    bigpapa,
Most of what the candidates debate about are thing of which they will have little control over. When it all comes down, it's up to the Senate and the House. To me, the debates are merely the opportunity to tell people where they stand on certain issues, not necessarily what they can change. There are some things that they do have control over, but not much.
I have yet to discover a candidate that accomplished all he "promised".

I really do think that Romney is conservative at heart. He's also a slimebag politician, so he pretended to be more liberal than he was in order to be elected governor of Taxachusettes. When he left there and was courting conservative Republican votes, he went back to his conservative roots. He never explained his change, because he would have exposed himself as an opportunistic unprincipled hypocrite who says whatever he needst to in order to be elected at the moment. Kind of like our 42nd president did.

In case you hadn't heard the latest poll, Obama would get the most votes if the election were held today. He's ahead of McCain. Our only chance is to get behind McCain if we want a pro-life President in the white house.

Reality check: Huck is STILL short of the delegate count where Romney dropped out.

I am curious why abortion and a mariage amendment are so important to most Christians. Don't get me wrong. I am pro-life and pro-family. However, the President has little control over these things. Who we should really focus on is someone who will truly up hold the Constitution and prevent the spread of Anti-American Socialism and Communism. When we do that, pro-family and pro-life will follow behind. Unfortunately, no one left in the race will do that or has even shown it in there record. Mike Huckabee may be a good man but he lacks understanding of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the purpose of government in it. I don't care how many degrees in Baptist/Evangelical/Bible theology he has. He just doesn't get it. All of us can start referring to each other as comrades, because we are headed for Communism.

I love the way reporters almost always end these stories with 'Romney, who dropped out of the race earlier this month, had collected 280 delegates and has endorsed McCain. " Trying to make it sound like McCain automatically gets these delegates, THAT IS NOT HOW IT IS! McCain does NOT automatically get Romney's delegates once he drops out even though Romney endorses McCain. They are free and he no longer controls them.

Joseph was blessed of God and in turn those who supported him were also. Mike Huckabee became the Governor of a state that would never have elected a Republican. He was reelected twice as the Governor. The people saw that his time as Governor blessed them. Why is it that so many Christians need this said before they are willing to give him a chance? Even Democrats of Arkansas can see a good man across party lines. This man reminds me of the founding fathers of this country, (the guys told about before all the recent rewrites of "history" now taught in schools.)
The medias major stockholders have spoken and are trying hard to never allow someone who, by all of his actions and intentions put God number one on his list. The secular humanists think they can buy an election again. The co writer of the bill that gave their money legal entry into the candidates pockets is running against Mike. If Mike loses this election it will be because Christians in this country have started to believe the lies.

"VOTE YOUR CONSCIENCE" is the same head-in-the-sand mantra that Ron Paul and Ralph Nader want you to believe as well. The reality is it was OVER for Huck awhile ago, as much as we wanted it to be him.

We have two choices: Obama or McCain. A vote for anyone but McCain will put a pro-abortion, pro-gay president named Obama in the White House. It comes down to who gets the most votes and the only ones that are going to have a chance are either for a Democrat or McCain. It's that simple.

And we wouldn't have had this problem if Huckabee had dropped out and endorsed the Real Conservative Romney a long time ago.
