Farrakhan's Praise Heightens Obama's Messianic Image

By Dr. Tony Beam|Christian Post Guest Columnist

Seventy-four year old Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan has joined the chorus of those who speak of Obama in messianic terms. Farrakhan did not specifically endorse Obama but in a rambling address in front of over 20,000 people, oddly enough in celebration of “Saviour”s Day,” he called Obama, “the hope of the entire world that America will change and be made better.”

He also compared Obama to Fard Muhammad saying, “A black man with a white mother became a savior to us. A black man with a white mother could turn out to be one who can lift America from her fall.” Farrakhan’s comments come just one week after Hollywood icon Halle Berry, speaking of Obama said she would, “Do whatever he says do.” She continued, “I’ll collect paper cups off the ground to make his pathway clear.”

And it isn’t just the privileged and powerful that are measuring Obama for a celestial throne. If you Google Obama’s name you will find a plethora of websites that range from questioning the possibility of his messiahship to outright pronouncements that he is a saviour. One site (obamamessiah.blogspot.com) even offers pictures of Obama that appear to show light emanating from his very presence. ABC Nightline Correspondent David Wright said of an Obama rally, “Politics doesn’t even begin to describe it. A visit to an Obama rally is a pilgrimage.” This sounds more like an addled teenage response to a rock star than a serious appraisal by a respected journalist.

How can we explain the unrestrained adulation that borders on blasphemy? How in the world did a second rate political campaign evolve into a search for a saviour? It begins with a postmodern jettison of absolute truth and ends with an immorality-induced skepticism of all things political. No matter which side of the aisle you choose to plant your flag you can’t help but realize Washington doesn’t work. When lawmakers spend more time interrogating future Hall of Fame baseball players than hammering out important legislation (the Protect America Act) that would protect American lives, people become disillusioned. When lawmakers cater to the whims of the rich and powerful by allowing their lobbyists to wine and dine them while they appear to ignore the needs of everyday citizens people become angry. When Congress passes laws loaded with earmark spending designed to build bridges to nowhere and every other pork barrel project you can think of people give up. They just plain lose hope that meaningful change is even possible.

Along comes a young, charismatic figure that captures the imagination. He speaks in vague generalities that inspire rather than inform. He perfectly fits the mold of American culture in the early part of the 21st century. Generations of Americans have had their senses numbed by an education system that long ago ceased to challenge them to think for themselves. The foundation of postmodern thought is the story. We live in an Oprahized world where a good story trumps logical, coherent thought every time and twice on Sunday. When our minds are dulled from the consumption of empty ideas and our spirits are crushed by the weight of meaninglessness in culture we become like the demon possessed man who was made clean but left void of the presence of God. He became open to possession by a whole host of new evil spirits.

Enter Barack Obama, whose campaign becomes the story. Here is a guy who realizes he doesn’t have to be specific about the details of his plan to lead America. He doesn’t have to give the media or his political adversaries a target. In fact, he forces his critics to make him the object of their scorn, which simply draws more disciples into his camp.

If the background of all of this messianic rhetoric we hear the warning of Christ from the Olivet Discourse (Matthew 24) echoing through the ages, “Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name saying I am the Messiah and they will deceive many.” Whether or not Barack Obama intends to present himself as a messiah he is at least guilty of refusing to deny the title.

I don't believe that obama is the anti-christ, but I do believe that he is what scriptures call a false Christ. Just like several other well known people, one very well-known female comes to mind, are false prophets. And Don, it's not about being scared, it's about seeing GOD's Word being played out right in front your eyes. Just goes to prove that GOD says it and that settles it. People are running to these people because that is what Scripture tells will happen. People better wake up.......
Thought to ponder: Everyone who has ever lived is still living today, either in Heaven or in hell. Humans were created to live forever and everyone will live on, either Heaven or hell: you decide!

    23) Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.
    24) For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
    Matt 24:23-24 (KJV)

    One more thing:
Someone said this: "Nothing personal, but I would never trust anything Louis Farrakhan promotes, I saw some of his literature many years ago and it was all a message of hate."

Let's hope then he never promotes you or me. For then we wouldn't trust ourselves.

I don't get all this antichrist talk. The Obama phenomenon has to do with hope for something better. Could it be that hope is the thing that is glowing? The problem is that Christians are always cowering in fear that someone will lead them astray. But fear will not work as a descerner. Only real discernment from God does that. Fear will lead to deception. We need faith that leads to truth, not fear. We need to pray more before we write articles like the one above. I realize that the writer does not say Obama is the antichrist, yet, there is some real concern there about the messianic image, etc. But others are saying it. Barack Obama is about as much the antichrist as Mr. Bean.

I don't know if Obama is the Anti-christ himself but he definitely has the spirit of the anti-christ.

    And anniefourjesus is right.

The flaggers are hard at work here again I see. The first thing to go in a theocracy is freedom of speech.. Thats the reason to keep religion out of government, courts and schools.

JC: We are moving closer every day to the Lord's return! People seem to think this man is god and he is not. I have researched his record and I found that it's true, he doesn't vote in the Senate, he evades voting so noone can nail him down. I ask myself a question, who is this guy and where did he come from?? I never heard of him before two years ago.

He is telling folks what they want to hear (itching ears, prophecy here!)

See, I walk with Jesus Christ, and I belong to His Kingdom, and I am His ambassador, and I no longer vote in elections, and I don't complain either.
JESUS is LORD! His Kingdom is coming on this earth and is even now descending!

God's Word says, HE puts men/women in their positions, so I trust our God to work out the plan HE is indeed working out!

Following Jesus Christ and obeying Him, is what it means to be a "Christian" but Jesus spoke about the END TIME events; and we are surely in those times.
Nothing personal, but I would never trust anything Louis Farrakhan promotes, I saw some of his literature many years ago and it was all a message of hate.

Jesus brings a message of hope and love and forgiveness, but God isn't playing around when Jesus comes, folks are going to find out real quick, that they've been following the wrong Jesus!

This world is reserved for fire, so why do people (even Christians) try so hard to save it, God is concerned about the LOST LIVES here! Jesus is bringing a new Heavens and new Earth!

Praise God! for the truth of HIS Word! Whomever is elected;JESUS is still LORD!

I don't really think it is going to matter who is the next president of the U.S. Things seem to be rolling down a steep slope, and only gaining speed.

It's virtually impossible to divine what "leadership he actually would bring about" since all he says is "Change, and hope. We'll hope for change. In our change we'll find the hope that will hopefully bring about change..... ad nauseum." The man hasn't said anything specific, which is why he's scary.

1man "I am afraid of what leadership he actually would bring about."

Sen Obama would be an enormous improvement over the silly fool that occupies the WH now.

I find it a little amusing that B.O. who has used the services of "christians" has been endorsed as a type of savior by a leading Muslim cleric without any retort. Does America know what an actual christian is anymore or is it a byword for anyone who believes in anything? I would think the statements blasphemous if they are made by christians, what is blasphemous is that "christians" have not had an outcry of opposition to such talk. This reminds me of ancient Israel wanting a king to get away from god's leadership, they have opted out of a personal relationship with Jesus to have a better and more content life to embracing a visionary/prophet/politician figure-head who promises better days (just like all his predecessors) and has just enough religion smeared on him to look spiritually appealing. I am afraid of what leadership he actually would bring about.
