'Conspirators' Plot New Ways to Be Christian

By Michelle A. Vu|Christian Post Reporter

Cutting-edge leaders of the emerging, missional, mosaic and monastic streams are convening Thursday evening in Washington state to re-imagine ways to express the Christian faith.

Under the banner of “The New Conspirators Conference,” attendees will contemplate what “God is conspiring” through the new generation of Christian leaders to make His kingdom relevant in a rapidly changing world.

“As far as we know, this is the first time that such a broad range of new conspirators have come together to communicate, connect and create with one another,” conference organizers said on their Web site.

Speakers and participants at the Conspirators conference include Shane Claiborne, author of The Irresistible Revolution; Karen Ward from Fremont Abbey; Efrem Smith, co-author of The Hip Hop Church; Dwight Friesen from Mars Hill Graduate School; Julie Clawson, an emerging church planter; Mark Scandrette, author of Soul Graffiti; Christine Sine, author of Godspace; and Tom Sine, author of The New Conspirators.

Participating “conspirators” will seek to create new expressions of discipleship, community, church and mission in an environment described by the conference as a “festival of imagination.” Discussions on tough questions concerning the church, community, and God’s world will also be addressed.

“We are racing into an increasingly uncertain global future in which the middle class, our poorest neighbors and our planet will face daunting new challenges,” organizers said. “In this festival of imagination, we will invite you to create innovative ways to engage these challenges in a way that reflects something of God’s new order.”

The three main goals of the conference are: to communicate creative models of what new conspirators are doing to address challenges such as poverty and global warming; to connect leaders from all four streams to share their lives, stories and concerns; and to create new ways to advance God’s new order in the world – in personal lives and in churches – in response to the growing challenges facing the poor and the planet.

Workshop sessions include 2008: Do God and Politics Mix?; Emerging Women Find Their Voice; Creating Missional Congregations in Latin America; Rhythms of Grace for Everyday Life; Stop, Drove & Roll Redefined; Jesus for President; Established and Emerging Dancing Together; Holy Loitering: Rediscovering Spirituality for New Expressions and Traditional Communities; Creating Support Groups for Jesus Radicals; and Entering the Jesus Dojo.

The “New Conspirators: What in the World is God Doing?” conference is being held at Bethany Community Church in Seattle, Feb. 28-Mar. 1.

I think that we need to be careful what we buy into these days especially christians. The enemy comes to decieve us in as many ways as possible he knows he has but a short time. If your introduced to something new and chrisitan people are the one telling you dont just go along with it just because they say there christians doesnt mean they are falling what the bible says or what God wants I think we need to learn to follow more closley to what the bible actually says instead of what we think it says be careful how you interpret things

I am a sold out, on fire, blood bought, Holy Spirit filled disciple of Christ Jesus my Lord. But I must say that this conference title (New Conspirators Conference) sounds real spooky to me. I believe that we are seeing the slow, (or if not) quick collapse of the self-motivated and self-serving, humanistically driven emerging churches that have compromised by turning the God of the Bible into a humanistic rendition of themselves. I believe their attitude about God is false by saying that He is secretive and dwells in darkness with rebels. God will never accept our "false fire" and gimmicks, because He is an all-consuming fire who will destroy our idols if we won't. People don't want clever gimmicks they want to be transformed and their life redirected by the Power of God - and not by "Anthony Robbins" personal power. God has made Himself clear in His word; we just have to become obedient. As there were prophets of Baal yesterday, we have them today in leadership positions of liberal and emergent churches that have tolerated sexual perversion, despised the holiness of God, and rejected biblical authority. You see...it is actually the liberal compromising church that is about to become extinct in America and Europe, not the churches that seek the glorify God His way. So these messages is to the homosexual Bishop Sponge of the Episcopal Church who wrote the book “Why Christianity must change or die” - YOU ARE THE ONES WHO MUST CHANGE (or as in the biblical term Repent) and receive mercy from God through making Jesus as Lord and Savior. People must recognize that if Jesus is truly our Lord (King), we have got to understand that it means that Christ Jesus is our Owner; we don't own ourselves and can NEVER have a relationship with God on our own terms. We should not have to conspire to fit the label as a Christian, if we were not already the real thing. Selah

    Sounds weird to me!

So what are the new ways to be a Christian??

Funny, I though that this was something that need not have changed in the last 2000 years. Christians are sinners saved by grace plain and simple. Nothing you do can add or take away from this basic fact.

What exactly is "God’s new order in the world"?

I agree with "coffee", it sounds like gnosticism, just in a new shiny wrapper.

"But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves." (1st Peter, 2:1)

Jesus declared that His teachings were open to all. Conspirators sounds a little like gnosticism. Our Savior went about doing good and then went to the cross. That was His great "strategy" to reach the world.

One doesn't need to attend a conference to know what God's doing. Just read your Bible.

    From the dictionary:
"conspirator" - a member of a conspiracy - a group of conspirators banded together to achieve some harmful or illegal purpose

Pretty much sums it up doesn't it? Perhaps they should reevaluate who they are communicating with in their "contemplations" and with whom they are actually conspiring.
