'Hannah Montana' Star: I Do Everything for Jesus

[-] Text [+]

“Hannah Montana” star Miley Cyrus and her best friend Mandy Jiroux have dedicated their Easter installment of "The Miley and Mandy Show" on YouTube to Jesus, saying everything they do is for him.

In the video, Jiroux, 20, who performs as a back-up dancer for the popular teen star, reads a question from a fan who asked if the girls were Christian.

The squeaky-clean duo emphatically respond, "Yes!"

"Yes! We love Jesus!" says Cyrus, 15, as she nods her head in agreement. "Happy Easter, by the way. He died for our sins. That's how awesome he is.

"Jesus rocks! That's why we do what we do," the Hannah Montana star adds. "She (Mandy) dances for Jesus. I sing, dance and act for Jesus! ... Now that I think about it, I do everything for Jesus. We make the YouTube videos for Jesus. We’re all about it."

Her comments should come as no surprise to fans who have been following her career.

Cyrus, who plays a high school teen with an alter-identity as a pop singer on the hit Disney Channel show, has been very vocal about her faith.

She recently credited her family and faith for keeping her grounded in an interview with TV presenter Barbara Walters that aired for the Oscars.

“Some people don’t have a family to fall back on, like I have, and that’s when something greater than even that comes in – and that’s faith and that’s what I have for me,” Cyrus told Walters, according to ABC News. “That’s what keeps me strong.”

In an appearance on Oprah last year, Cyrus had also mentioned church as the source of her strength.

When asked to name her favorite Bible verse, she referred to Ephesians 6:10-11, stating "Finally, my brother, come close to the Lord for if you put on the full armor of God you can stand against the wiles of a devil."

Her most recent movie release, "The Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour," has grossed over $63 million. Cyrus' next project will be "The Hannah Montana Movie,” slated for a May 2009 debut.

    I love Miley Cyrus!!! and also her faith in the Lord. I really am happy that there are private Christians out in Hollywood!

    One point to consider or ignore. Miley Cyrus does work for a media juggernaut that recently scores low on the spiritual. Remember the rock group Jump5? Christian rock beginnings. I have heard their CD's and feel sad about the thin veneer of faith that pokes through the lyrics. Where are they now? It seems once you've peaked, you're gone.
    Once the Disney options run out on Miley, where will she go? I pray that this Jesus confession is sincere. I hope that when the future arrives, we will think nothing of the past. Forgiveness is a grand benefit, once you really think about it.

    I'm not going to judge anyone's holiness. The bottom line of this whole thing is that Miley is professing to be a Christian. Good for her! I do the same! But I'll tell you this, if you look at every part of my life, all day, you're going to find sin. Of course the same can be said for Miley. But, last I checked, Christ died for our sins. Praise the Lord that she is speaking about Christian things.

    Lord, I'm going to publically pray (via post), that you watch over each of the people on this board. Thank you for each of them and their insights. Also Lord, please bless Miley, keep her strong, and keep her from evil. Thank you for her bold witness, may I have the same boldness in my life today. In Jesus name, Amen.

    Feel free to e-mail me anytime smbga. God does take care of us most definately spiritually but that is not to say He does not know what we need to live in this world too. We may not be of this world but we certainly live in it. We always want God to move quickly when there is injustice.

    But again sometimes it is hard for people to see God when there is so much injustice in this world that it would seem that God does not care but He really does. I hear so often in my ministry that some find it hard to accept a Jesus that does not seem to even care in providing something so basic as a hug and words of encouragement. One music group I love is Casting Crowns and their song If We are the Body. Powerful lyrics...

    Nero: Actually, no. I suppose it's a frustration thing. Forgive me if I have spoken way too much. But I enjoy sharing what I know and then what I don't know. We are actually doing the best spiritually speaking than what we have in many years. I tend to want God to move quickly. He can, but usually not in dealing with individuals. God bless. I may email you sometime. Thank You

    Yes you are absolutely correct. Generational curses are indeed a real thing. How many times has someone given you a name that stuck with you for most of your life. If there is anyone who is going through a abusive relationship then seek help now! GET OUT! You do not deserve to get abused. God hears your call and a baseball bat is not the answer either. God wants you to have a full life and one without curses and reminders of past shortcomings. Again if anyone is going through this situation then get help now. Email me if you have to as God does answer prayers.

    smbga: I may be reading this totally wrong and forgive me if I am but is there anything the body of Christ can do for you and your family? nerohdam@gmail.com

    And it's disturbing that pastors don't teach about generational curses. They are real. They keep a person from fulfilling their full capacity in life. Yes, my family and I sat down together last year and came up with a very lengthy list of curses and we prayed and broke them from off of our lives. And there are word curses too. All kinds of curses that need to be broken. But many are not ready to hear that. It scares them. There is so much that the church does not know.

    Women like this have had a traumatic experience very early in life. As I stated earlier, I was very fortunate to be raised in a loving christian home. I was well cared for.

  • Thu Mar 27, 2008 10:42 am : 0 : 1 Flag

    And something else that is appalling is that most pastors don't have a clue how to help mentally abused women. I have a dear friend who is actually addicted to being mentally abused. I told her that I love her and I care. But I don't care to hear her complaining anymore. I told her that I am convinced that she likes to be treated like a dog. Her husband doesn't want her talking to me cause I speak to openly. But this is a sad situation. I see pastors abuse their wives also. My flesh wants to take care of the situation with a baseball bat. But yes of course, I know that's not the answer. This world is sick sick sick. (Just something else on my mind)

  • Thu Mar 27, 2008 10:21 am : 2 : 1 Flag

    Actually the Words you NOW speak resonate strongly with me. The church does have a long way to go in helping those in need. While I have not read Wilkerson I have heard a lot of powerful things about him from people in my church. And yes you are right that things can be frightening as you say to those who do not understand but we must make sure not to give steak to newborns as Paul stated.

    We are currently reading in our small group aka Bible study a book called When Heaven Invades Earth by Bill Johnson http://www.amazon.com/When-Heaven-Invades-Earth-Johnson/dp/0768429528

    Check that one out. Very powerful when talking about demonstrating God's power here on earth. Also a friend recommended Holy Discontent by Bill Hybels

    I can just imagine what you all are thinking. :) Does this person ever hush? I can get on a roll when talking about spiritual matters. I love it. It's my life. I will give the floor to someone else.

    And when I intercede for individuals (deep intercession) the enemy pulls out all stops. So I have learned to pray what The Word says before I intercede and it keeps him at bay. I do not claim to know it all. No way!!!! But thru knocks and bumps along the way, I have learned to rely on God's Word totally. Not man.

  • Thu Mar 27, 2008 10:01 am : 0 : 0 Flag

    Have you read 'Set the trumpet to thy mouth' by David Wilkerson? Lord have mercy. I mocked him and his book 25 yrs. ago. But in the last 5 yrs. , I have a hard time putting it down. This man is what some call a doom and gloom prophet. He is blunt and always to the point. Yet seasoned with mercy and love. He clearly speaks out against all that goes in the church world today. Is there not a voice in the church world today that will take a bold stand against sin? God speaks to me in dreams. And also when I read the Word. I keep a journal of what He has shown me in the last 2 yrs. It is pretty frightening to someone who doesn't understand. I do know that there is a famine coming. There is already a famine of the Word. But a food famine. And something else that is not right is that most churches don't have a fund for people in need. I mean true need.

  • Thu Mar 27, 2008 9:51 am : 1 : 0 Flag

    Nero: Thank you kindly for your encouragement. It is awesome to hear that there is a ministry (where you are) that is TRULY ministering. You and the people there are to be commended. God bless you. And for 250 to come forward to accept Christ!!!!! That is something else to hear about in America. I read Isaiah, Jeremiah and Ezekiel (for starters) and they were not liked. They spoke what God said. And no one liked it. This is what I am talking about. As you already know, there is only maybe a handful that truly has a hunger and a thirst for God's Word. This is what I want. No more playing games. No more ignorance.

  • Thu Mar 27, 2008 9:41 am : 2 : 0 Flag

    smbga: You ask very valid questions. This past Easter we had an open invitation to accept Christ and we had over 250 people come forward. How many will mature I don't know that is between God and them.

    I also serve in ministry serving food to the poor in our down town park. They don't come for the food anymore. They come because we consistently show them the love of Christ. We pray for them . We have had a man receive sight literally. He was literally blind and can now see after we prayed for him but more importantly he can spiritually seen now. We have prayed for people to regain health in their legs and now they can walk so yes the power of God is alive today.

    One thing I think about is what is my motive for going to church. Am I going to church the church or am I going there to personally say thank you God and to give him glory that he rightfully deserves. If a person wants to dance to the Lord than who am I to say that is not worship? I think you would be shocked to see the dances that King David (A man after God's Heart) and all performed while giving glory to God. Sometimes we see the physical so much that we totally miss the heart behind the movement.

    I would encourage anyone that is not going to church due to differing views to find a church as again God can speak in ALL situations. To not go to church because one feels that only you have the answer is a very dangerous place to be and that is where the deceiver wants you to be. The devil loves to divide and conquer.

    One will never find a church that totally agrees with every single idea one may have of church. In those cases take your concerns to God and either he will change the situation or change you for the situation. I think He does more of the later than the former.

    Best wishes in finding a church smbga as I know there are churches that believe in doing what Christ did and more as the scriptures say. :)

    Several yrs. ago at a rather large full gospel church in North Georgia, the pastor of that church had a good friend of his from South America. Well this South American man had a young teen daughter who had just entered college and was taking dancing courses. This pastor allowed this teen to get up on his platform and shake all over. My stomach flipped. I heard the Lord speak clearly to me: "This is profane." And He also told me to get up and leave. We left and did not return again.

  • Thu Mar 27, 2008 8:54 am : 0 : 0 Flag

    Nero: How often are people getting saved in your church? How often do people that need healinlg, receiving? The reason I ask is because Jesus told us to do what He did. Every where He went, He cast out devils and healed them. You just aren't seeing this. I am not living under condemnation. I haven't ever since I got delivered from religion. I found out on my own, that God has nothing to do with religion. It's all about relationship. And I have no problem assembling with believers. However, I have discovered sometime ago that the church has more devils in it than the world. That doesn't keep me from going. What keeps me from going is that like I said before is that it's all entertainment. I pray and ask the Lord to show me and my family where He wants us. And when I tell the people what the Word says they want to stone me. But they wanted to stone Jesus too.

  • Thu Mar 27, 2008 8:34 am : 0 : 0 Flag

    I hear what you are saying smbga. i too grew up hearing more dont's then dos. Then when someone led me to Christ it was because they loved me. Then those dont's and dos became more like wants and unwants. After I accepted Christ I was free from the law as the law condemns us. Now I am Free. Now I have more of a spirit to do than don't. I WANT to do good things. If I stumble then I know I am forgiven and I go on. Christ said my yoke is light. Why burden yourself with dos and don'ts?

    Also the church is not dead or at least the one I go to is ALIVE. We believe in the Power of Christ. We believe that we are to spread the kingdom on earth. We believe yes evil does exist here on earth and Christ gave us the power over darkness. And that is done through love, grace, compassion and the other aspects that were exemplified through Christ. We represent Christ and if someone sees our actions then that tells then what type of person Christ is. Would you want to follow someone always telling you You did this wrong and that wrong or would you rather have a relationship with someone telling you Hey friend let's not do that one again because the consequences really stunk but let's go over to that group of people and tell them how much we love them and maybe watch a basketball game or something! :)

  • Thu Mar 27, 2008 7:46 am : 1 : 1 Flag

    Being raised in a christian home, there was more don'ts than dos. I am somewhat thankful for that. It kept me from alot of trouble. I don't mind speaking my mind. Even more now, than ever. I am hearing from the Holy Spirit what my purpose in The Kingdom is. And I am preparing myself. I know for a fact that the church is spiritually dead. If I could resurrect it, I would. But that's not my job. I intercede. As of right now, my family and I do not have a pastor. How can I go to a pastor if he doesn't believe in casting out devils, and his church allows pagan traditions to be celebrated? I cannot partake. And I have spoken out recently on this and I was almost stoned.

    Hey smbga,
    I hear you as well. Nerohdam is absolutelt correct. Rom. 8:1 will help you with this but I want to point out a very valuable lesson we can all learn from here. You have just testified as to how the devil speaks to us and that is in the spirit of condemnation. God convicts us for our wrongdoing while Satan condemns us. Neil Anderson told a scenario that explains it best. He said Satan would come to you and say something like you do not need to go to church you are achild of God you can read your Bible at home. You don't need to go there. Then after the church services are over, Satan would come back and condemn you by saying what kind of Christian are you, you did not go to church, you did not even read your Bible, hypocrit you are no child of God. The Lord would probably say my child it is important that you attend church and fellowship with other believers as my word says in Hebrews10:24,25, but thank you for taking the time to sit quietly in my presence as I have enjoyed this one on one time with you. It is not a matter of whether or not we attend church or not or act all religious, quote the scriptures or whatever measures we do to prove our Christianity. It is who we are in relationship with in our heart that matters most. Another way to tell the difference in the thoughts are if you fell less than for some sort of thought it is of the devil. It is when you feel you need to apologize for actions the Holy Spirit is working. Rebuke the ungodly thoughts when they come and focus upon the Lord and you will overcome the wiles of the devil. God Bless

    Hey Valkyrie 1966,
    Thank you for your post. I absolutely agree with you. You have just pointed out the dangers and deceptions of the New Age movement that is infecting our children and churches. You cannot do something and drag God's name into it and call it Holy. Thanks for your spirit.

  • Thu Mar 27, 2008 7:02 am : 1 : 0 Flag

    smbga: I hear what you are saying. We are not to be idle but proclaim the message in love. There is a difference between repent or suffer in the eternal damnation of hell versus God wants a relationship with you and He sent His Son to die on the cross for you. Therefore, turn away from your ways and follow someone who loves you very much.

    Also you should not be feeling condemned for not going to church. That my friend IS NOT from God. When we excepted Christ into our lives, we were freed from condemnation. Done. Finished. Period. Now you may feel convicted but condemnation is certainly not from God. Missing a few Sunday services is not going to send you to hell. That is just plain silly. My God wants to know what is in your heart not the number of times you attend church. The only reason you go to church is to give God glory in a "corporate" setting. There is nothing to stop you from doing that no matter where you are. God is too big to put into a box or a building. :)

    gooseygirlsmom - Hmmmm....lets see I think there was two other "pop stars" that also claimed to be Christians and lets see where they are - Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson - all claimed to be living at the foot of the cross when they were Miley's age! Again - know them by their fruits not their toots!

  • Wed Mar 26, 2008 5:18 pm : 1 : 1 Flag

    Yes Nerohdam: I agree that we are commanded to love. No doubt. But how can we who know better, sit idly by and continue not to open our mouth about the sin that has entered the church and nobody says or does anything about it. No wonder in Revelation it says that Jesus is at the door knocking. We have never let Him in. I get condemned quite a bit for not going to church every Sunday. But how can I go and listen and watch the entertainment. I don't want entertainment. I want The Word of God.

  • Wed Mar 26, 2008 4:52 pm : 6 : 4 Flag

    Let me get this straight. This girl shakes her fanny, struts like a prostitute, models the world and the flesh for millions of little girls and she "does it all for Jesus"? The WORLD is calling her squeaky clean. The fruit of her life, according to God's Word, is anything but clean. The idolatry she engenders in her "fans" is true worship. She wears immodest clothing, with tight jeans and writhing back-up dancers dress no better. This is what Christians are using as their standard now? Meekness, sober-facedness, modesty, all of the things that Scripture talks about are absent in this poor girl. She thinks she can have the "best of both worlds". Jesus said, that whoever doesn't deny them-self, take up their cross and follow Him, is not worthy of Him. "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him." That's God's Word, not mine. Here's another: "And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 5If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit." Galatians 5:24-25

  • Wed Mar 26, 2008 3:08 pm : 4 : 1 Flag

    smbga: I am sure you do know the Bible backwards and forwards and I am sure you have seen and heard quite a bit in your life time from both Christians and non-Christians to make your stomach sick. As it does mine. BUT, we are COMMANDED as followers of Christ to LOVE on everyone. Even those we do not agree with. And the more they disagree with you and then the more you love on them. Otherwise instead of becoming hope peddalers and seed waterers we become the ones who pluck the good harvest with the weeds and that is not our job.

    I myself sometimes get caught up looking at others with a judgemental eye and I must constantly remind myself to die to self and DAILY carry my cross. I came to the cross because someone loved me not because someone showed me all my faults.

    In this same message I ask for your forgiveness in trying to show your faults. Again we all fall show and continually go to the cross for forgivenss and grace.

    Have a blessed day smbga!

  • Wed Mar 26, 2008 2:28 pm : 4 : 3 Flag

    I cannot believe the judgmental attitudes that people have here. Part of me feels bad for her. Now that she has become more outspoken about her faith, she will be judged for every little conceived wrong she does. And the sad thing is the most judgemental attitudes she will run into will not come from the world but from so-called Christians.

  • Wed Mar 26, 2008 2:04 pm : 10 : 1 Flag

    i cant believe you people, what about lettin your light shine huh? work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, Jesus said he who acknowleges me before men I will acknowlegde before the Father and His angels in heaven. You know millions of kids, millions look up to her, and if this leads kids to Christ, Praise God. Now, you who profess to be christians, you are really displaying the fruits of the Spirit in your lives. Look at the plank in your own eye, let he who is without sin cast the first stone, you should repent right now and ask God to give you a heart of flesh and not a heart of stone, you are really setting a good example to your fellow "christians". Thank God somebody lets their voices be heard, you should pray that God will bless and continue to lead Miley for His glory. Jesus said Go and preach the Gospel to all creation, what are you doing? Jesus said he who abides in His words His love will abide in them, where are you abiding today? i pray that God changes your hearts and you pray for miley cyrus.

Everybody thinks that they can mix alittle of this and a little of that into their life and it's ok with God.

    smbga: You state "But what kind of filth comes out of their mouths..."

    Your previous post state the following:

    "I am so sure that Jesus loves it when you shake your rear end little lady." and

    "Go ahead and do what you are doing. But please keep Jesus out of it. " and

    "Give this little lady a little more time. Mark my word: She won't be so innocent for very long." and

    finally smbga "Do you live with her? :)

    Your statements are very similar to those in the screw tape letters... The spirit in your words are not of those of the Holy Spirit. Careful who you judge lest you be judged dear sir. Your words are laced with truth as even the devil knows that light and darkness can not co-exist and the light will always win but the negativity in your words do not give off that light. As the Word says, Those who know my voice will follow Me.

    prespilot68 you are in my prayers your callousness and scepticism is very sad and sounds very much like what you claim Miss Cyrus to be ......insincere. If this kid is willing to stand up in front of the whole world and say these things more power to her. She should be supported and cheered on and most importantly prayed for. Surely the devil will be banging on her door to tear her down and make her look bad and try to prove to the world he can steal her sweet little soul. Kids today have so many poor role models to choose from this kid truly seems to be trying to be a positive one what is the purpose in being SO NEGATIVE? We watch the show with our kids and listen to the music with them. She hasn't given any indication that she isanything more than just a sweet teenager with a lot of talent. BTW I believe the fruits of the Spirit are these:

    * love (agape);
    * joy (chara);
    * peace (eirene);
    * patience (makrothumia);
    * kindness (chrestotes);
    * goodness (agathosune);
    * faithfulness (pistis);
    * gentleness (prautes);
    * self-control (enkrateia).

    Against such things there is not law.

    If would be interesting to see how many of you would profess your faith on television. I congratulate Miley for expressing her faith instead of being holier than thou. Until some of us stop living in the old testament and undestand the gift given through Christ. Also we should be lifting Miley up and not spewing words of discouragement, negativity and yes you are right I am sure she will stumble as we ALL have done. Thank God for Christ and his saving grace. Please cast your stones somewhere else like into the sea of forgiveness.

    This all sort of reminds me of "Jesus Junk" - you know those trinkets that have either a bible verse on it or the word Jesus on it. For example, I recently saw "Christian" shoe inserts. it literally said that because it had a bible verse written on them that "you'll be standing on God's word". WHAT!? Hannah Montana is really no different! Apathetic Christians (so called) will lap up this garbage, thinking that just because she SAYS she loves Jesus that must equate "holiness"! Don't get me wrong I don't think there is anything wrong with Hannah Montana or Miley Cyrus (at least from what I can tell - but then again I don't sit down and watch her show or listen to her music). Just because someone says "Oh I am a Christian" or "Oh I love Jesus" doesn't mean they are one necessarily. The bible is very specific how we know someone is a genuine follower of Christ - by their fruits, their actions, how their are living out their daily lives. Do they continue to sin or act selfish? Don't be fooled people, and don't be so gullible! Examine the fruits (lives) of these people.

    Wow, smbga....I think you're counting chickens before they hatch on this one. Don't judge someone for something they haven't done. And you can mix the world with Jesus, as long as you keep Him in mind in everything you do. Do you have money? Do you have a house? A job? Those are all worldly things and can be mixed quite well with Jesus. I work in a science related job and I love to write/play secular music in my spare time so I guess I must be an abomination too.

    Give this little lady a little more time. Mark my word: She won't be so innocent for very long. You cannot mix the world with a relationship with Jesus. Darkness has no fellowship with Light. That's the Word!! The 'church' thinks it's so cute. What an abomination.

    I have two boys and I'm glad there is a young lady in the entertainment business that we all find adorable. I've watched most of the shows with them and I've never seen anything offensive. If only more girls had the strength to display love and respect for family (and all while being fully clothed!!) we might give our own girls more options for how to "fit in" with their peers. I just pray she doesn't ever fall victim of the Hollywood scene. She's such a success already - she's serving her Lord and His people. Keep it up Miley!

    Go ahead and do what you are doing. But please keep Jesus out of it.

    I am so sure that Jesus loves it when you shake your rear end little lady.
