Miracle: Woman Wakes Up after 'Death Set In'

[-] Text [+]

The Thomas family experienced a medical miracle and wants everyone to know.

Val Thomas from West Virginia died and her family said their farewell. But 10 minutes after her heart stopped a third time, she miraculously woke up and called for her son.

"I feel very blessed," Thomas told NewsNet5. "I know God has something in store for me, another purpose. I don't know what it is but I'm sure he'll tell me."

Thomas' heart had stopped at home on Saturday at 1:30 a.m. Doctors at a West Virginia hospital say she suffered two heart attacks and had no brain waves for more than 17 hours, according to the local news channel.

Jim Thomas, her son, said her skin had already started to harden and her fingers curled.

"Death had set in," he said.

At the hospital, she was put on a special machine that induces hypothermia but then her heart stopped again.

"She had no neurological function," Dr. Kevin Eggleston told the news channel.

Daniel Pence, nephew of Val Thomas, commented, "I said to God just show me something. I know there's something here. And I didn't see it."

Val Thomas' chance of surviving was less than 10 percent.

The Thomas family began praying and son Jim said he felt peace.

But as doctors and family members were saying goodbye, a miracle happened.

"That's when Jesus Christ had stepped in and did his work," said Jim as he described the medical miracle.

When the nurses began to remove tubing from the mother, her arm moved, Pence explained. Then she coughed, her eyes fluttered and she began talking.

"She (the nurse) said, 'I'm so sorry Mrs. Thomas.' And mom said, 'That's OK honey. That's OK," Jim Thomas said.

Doctors as the Cleveland Clinic, where she was transferred, say the mother will be fine.

When I said ER I was referring to his own emergency room visit.
Its a bit easier to supress the knowledge of God during the pleasures of sin, then when the reaper calls your name and death is looking you in the eyes.

    star2,

That's really cool. I would love to have a chance to hear from him, first hand.
How have you been BTW? I haven't gotten a chance to talk to you or GMG.

I've only been sparsely posting, and reading for that matter :^) Ironically, I have more time to post from work than I do from home ... which has been a lot more work, lately :^)

On a side note, I attended my first Baptist service last Sunday, in lew of my regular mass attendance.

Yes, his testimony is awesome. He gave his testimony at my church about 7 or 8 years ago. Everyone was awe struck. They were so fixated on his testimony that nothing else was happening. You could hear a pin drop.

I read his book. It is well worth the reading.

    HyperionOverseer,

'90 MINUTES IN HEAVEN - A True Story of Death and Life', by Don Piper is a wonderful testimony of a miraculous death recovery with an account of recall of Heaven.

such an amazing miracle this is!

i know someday God will allow me to witness this miracle for herself!

Are you going to ask her where she was and what she experienced? (just a thought) I heard someone who came back to life during one of Reinhart Bonnke's sermons had a trip to heaven among other things ans was asking "for his file" when he came back.

Thanks for the positive feedback everyone! My aunt is doing GREAT! SHe is possibly coming home tomorrow! Praise God!! We are all so excited! We are all in amazement! We all know that God allowed this to happen to our family for a reason and can't wait to see what that is! 6 people in our family have been saved and I am sure there will be lots more! I am anxious for Val to come home so that I can really sit down and talk with her about everything. As far as I know she hasn't said anything about after she passed. So I am anxious to ask! I will let you know when I get a chance! God Bless You All!!!!

"There never have been any real miracles and there never will be any miracles. That's called "reality"."

Even atheists would disagree with you on that.

With such a bold face claim, I'm sure that you have positive proof to back it up.
    Get real!
    Before your own ER!

Miracles = magic = childish nonsense.

It's wonderful this person recovered, but nobody rises from the dead. The dead stay dead. This person was near death but never died.

I noticed the only people who say "It was a miracle" are people who already believe in miracles. There's a reason for everything and it's childish to immediately claim something was supernatural magic when the real reason isn't understood.

Dishonest nonsense from a previous comment: "There was an African Pastor who died in Dec 2001 and was brought back to life after two days."

That's just plain lying. Dead two days and alive again. Pure dishonesty.

I once watched a person die. After her last breath some time passed and nobody expected her to breath again. But she did. She took one last breath. It sometimes takes awhile to completely die. In extremely rare cases a person can recover, but only because they were never completely dead. There never have been any real miracles and there never will be any miracles. That's called "reality".

Of course if the Chicago Cubs ever win the World Series, I will reconsider my views about miracles.

    jessi7403,

Thank you so much for filling in those details. I do believe that you were a witness to a true miracle of God, and I praise Jesus that you are a witness for Him, and for the glory of God the Father.

If you ever frequent this site, you'll find that there are many professed skeptics in addition to believers who definitely keep the conversations ... interesting.

Those of us who are witnesses of God's power in our own lives pray for each other, those skeptics who may someday come to believe, and for the people about which the articles are written.

May God bless you and your family, and may His love and grace always shine through your testimony.

Thanks so much for letting us know what happened to your aunt and how she is now doing. Does she remember anything that happened to her after she passed?

In response to most of the comments left about this story...

The media has totally messed up alot of the story. WHy they do this I will never know but it is really bothering me that it got so twisted. I am the neice of Val Thomas. I was there the whole time she was in the hospital and checked on her often throughout the day. At 1:30 am on the 17th of May, Val had a heart attack at home (while she was alone). She was able to call her son right before her heart stopped. when they say she was without oxygen for 15-20 minutes, that was the time it took for any medical attention to reach her. Her door was locked at the time and they had to bust it down to get to her. When they finally got to her she was not breathing and had no pulse. she also was grey. They worked on her for 8 minutes and were able to get a very faint pulse. They intibated her in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. Upon arriving at the hospital she was put on a ventillator and they induced her into a hypothermic state. After doing so she had 2 more heart attacks and had to recieve CPR each time. At no point in time did she have brain activity and an EEG was performed twice to prove so. There were also various other tests performed. After her third heart attack, the doctors told us that she had less than 10% chance of survival and that if she did survive she would have major brain damage and possibly be in a vegetative state. It was then that her son Tim made the decision to take her off of life support. As the family said their goodbyes val had no pulse, no blood pressure, and no brain activity. Her shoulders had started to curl inward, her toes and hands had already started to curl, her pupils were fixated, and her skin was hardened. She had every possible sign of being dead. I was one of the last to say goodbye to her and while I was in there my pastor asked the nurse to check one more time just to make sure she was really gone. She checked her groin, neck, and wrist for a pulse and there was nothing. She also checked her blood pressure again and it wouldn't even register on the machine. After the family had gone home, the nurse went in to prepare her for the morgue. She turned off the ventillator and walked out of the room. She returned 10 minutes later and took the tube out of her mouth. When she did so, that is when Val raised her hand to her mouth, took a breath and asked for her son. The nurse then checked her vitals and everything was NORMAL! Today she is walking, talking, and is back to her old self. This is truly a miracle from GOD! To any of you who want to say mean things about what happened, and try to play this off as a blunder in modern medicine, my only wish is that you could have been there before and after. My only hope is that you would repent and accept God into your life. This is truly a MIRACLE!! God Bless You All!!!

    Scit,
    >> that was said 10, 100, 1000, 2000 years ago. I remember back in the 1970's where televagelists were saying all the signs of the "end-times" were at hand. <<

How do you know it's not been a gradual process ... not to mention, just because "wolf" has been cried at numerous times, doesn't mean at some point he won't be waiting at your door.

DRJ "witness that the time is short for the reappearing of the Lord Jesus. "

that was said 10, 100, 1000, 2000 years ago. I remember back in the 1970's where televagelists were saying all the signs of the "end-times" were at hand. Well what do know, the "end-times" are approaching once again. Its sad people get to believing such nonsense.

"And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by [the means of] those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. " (Revelation 13:13-14)

"... [Even him], whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders," (2 Thessalonians 2:9

  • Mon May 26, 2008 2:06 pm : 1 : 0 Flag

Let all readers be aware that you will be hearing and reading about and seeing many more "miracles" in the days and weeks to come. Just as the earth is exploding with more and more meteorological catastrophies, the power of the Holy Spirit is being poured out in an exponential way as a witness that the time is short for the reappearing of the Lord Jesus. To all believers "Lift up your heaads for your redemption draws nigh!" To those who are perishing "Call upon the name of the Lord and you shall be saved!"

This shouldn't come as a surprise to those who are Spirit filled "doers" of the Word, and not just pew warmers. This is normal christianity....the book of Acts...we don't see as much of miraculous signs & wonders in the west because we aren't as 'sold out' to Christ and as faith-filled as those in eg.Africa, China, etc.
This is what we need to return to....AUTHENTIC Christianity....signs, wonders, and miracles.....GET READY, the supernatural is returning to the body of Christ!!!

There was an African Pastor who died in Dec 2001 and was brought back to life ater two days. If you are interested you can read about his story here http://bibleprobe.com/ekechukwu.htm
