Website Lets Christians E-Mail Friends After Rapture

By Elena Garcia|Christian Post Reporter

Christians who believe they might one day be physically swept up to heaven in the Rapture will be able to send e-mails to loved ones left behind on Earth nearly one week after the apocalyptic event takes place, thanks to a new website.

YouveBeenLeftBehind.com lets subscribers send an e-mail message to up to 62 people exactly six days after they've disappeared from the face of the Earth, Wired Magazine's Threat Level reports.

The website, run by Mark Heard along with four other Christians, dispatches the e-mails when at least three staff members fail to log in for six consecutive days. Its main purpose is to give Christians one final shot at evangelism.

"You've Been Left Behind gives you one last opportunity to reach your lost family and friends for Christ," states the website.

The site is predicated on one interpretation of Christian theology that puts the day of Rapture as the beginning of The End Times or Armageddon. Believers, according to this viewpoint, would be physically lifted up to heaven while those who have not accepted Christ would be left behind to suffer seven years of Tribulation under a global government headed by the Antichrist.

In addition to the e-mail function, users of YouveBeenLeftBehind.com can also store personal and financial documents on the site. Up to 150 megabytes of information would be sent to up to 12 people after the presumed rapture.

"In the encrypted portion of your account you can give them access to your banking, brokerage, hidden valuables, and powers of attorneys," explains the site.

"There won't be any bodies, so probate court will take seven years to clear your assets to your next of kin. Seven years, of course, is all the time that will be left. So, basically the Government of the Antichrist gets your stuff, unless you make it available in another way."

The services offered by the site cost $40 a year. Heard told Threat Level that he already has paying subscribers.

Some Christians have praised the idea.

"I do believe in the rapture. As far as the website goes I think it’s a great idea, because if you believe in the rapture (like me), you know that the time remaining on earth is short and is going to be the worst days the world has known. However, those left behind still will have the opportunity for salvation which is the message I would want to get across," wrote one Christian identified as "skinthemboys" on a forum site for Washington Redskins football fans.

But the site also has plenty of critics that include both Christian and non-Christian bloggers. Some call the site "ridiculous" and "disgusting."

"In a world where only 16% of 16 to 29-year-old non-Christians express favorable view of Christians (Barna, 2007) , and only 3% of 16 to 29-year-old nonChristians express favorable views of evangelicals... we Christians should try to avoid doing stupid stuff like this," vents Jonathan McKee, president of The Source for Youth Ministry, on his blog.

Heard told Threat Level that he has politely responded to some of the site's critics and has turned their negative comments into "constructive criticism" for improvements to the site.

Dear non-believers back on earth, because of air pollution that we caused when we were mortal... Heaven is not so great anymore. We have to wear full bodied gas masks. It smells like diapers. The clouds are gooey and they stick to your robe. Alot of the angels have weird skin diseases and are gross to look at. The water tastes like Satan's pee. So we're all thinking of forgetting this whole eternity in the clouds deal. How is it down there? We all kind of want to come back, if that's okay. We would like to apologize for all the chaos we created with religious wars and unnecessary deaths we caused while our stay on earth. If you take us back, We promise we'll just accept people and their choices for what they are and vow to stop forcing our ideals onto politics, which greatly puts barriers on progress in science, healthcare, and society in general. Because we understand now that we are completely wrong and our beliefs are silly and outdated, we will begin our path to progressive enlightenment, and live in harmony without the blinding brainwash of religion preceding our judgement. Instead of before when we were being ignorant about global warming, polution and gas emissions, we will contribute to taking care of our fragile planet. I know that this isn't an excuse, but we did think that the earth was kind of useless. Sorry about that. Can you forgive us? ~ Sincerely... Christians."

As a practicing capitalist, I see a stunning opportunity for financial growth in a business that must have legitimate competition so as to promote competitive pricing AND world-class services that demanding consumers will choose over similar service providers.

Therefore, it is with no small amount of pride that I announcing the formation of Coon Air Rapture Notification Services, a division of Coon Air Animal Husbandry Services. Initial operating headquarters will be located at Area 51 at Roswell, New Mexico, and all transactions will be handled by a liquid nitrogen-cooled HAL 2000 computer,

Human staffing of the facility will not be necessary as all functions and tasks are to fully automated and the use of sensory devices proven through service aboard various NASA space shuttles will be employed to assure immediate response to the initial onset of rapture.

The explanation of sending the emails after the rapture takes place is not very clear from the story. I, like you, at first, thought that they were saying you could send emails to your loved ones from heaven. But, after reading it again and reading what was on their website, that is not the case.

You write the email now. After the rapture takes place then 6 days later the computer system will send the email(s) plus personal information about yourself for probate sake to who you want them sent to. This can be deduced (emails are written now) from the information in the story that you can store important financial information about yourself that you loved ones need to know for probate sake should you vanish from the earth. If you do that now (the financial information for probate) then that also implies that you write the emails now. Go to their website and they will better explain this, though not well, plus they will explain their method on determining how they know the rapture took place.

    Prophet: FYI. From the article:
"Christians who believe they might one day be physically swept up to heaven in the Rapture will be able to send e-mails to loved ones left behind on Earth nearly one week after the apocalyptic event takes place, thanks to a new website."

How do you think they are going to send the e-mails from heaven? By carrier pigeon?

Maybe reading the article again would be of benefit to you. It will make more sense to you then.

Why give money to these folks to send an email to your left behind loved ones when you could just as easily leave a taped message, a letter or whatever in your home with you personal information they think they will need in case you disappear? Also, emails cahnge all the time. How do you know that the email today will be the same for tomorrow? Of course, they probably allow for you to change it if it does, but you never know, your email may never reach them.

Again, why spend the money when there are other means? I think these people are just wanting to profit off a very real concern that Christians have about the tribulation period that is very close to beginning.

I agree with CarolTexGirl, that we should be busy now about witnessing to our lost friends and family and the stranger on the street about there need for Christ and the coming tribulation.

  • Thu Jun 12, 2008 3:59 pm Agree: 1   Disagree: 0

I agree that we ought to be witnessing now. But, let me ask you: Do you have anyone in your life that you have witnessed to for years but they just have not responded? I do. I'm not saying this is what I would do, but it is at any rate a good idea to have a dead-man option to communicate important information to your loved ones in case of an accident. If that "accident" is the rapture, same result. I myself believe in a mid-trib rapture, so I am more concerned that my loved ones will be able to hold up under the martyrdom they may be called upon to face. I have a friend who thought this is just a money-making scheme; that is possible as well. But if you believed in a pre-trib, surprise rapture wouldn't you be responsible if you make some preparation for it?

  • Thu Jun 12, 2008 1:17 pm Agree: 2   Disagree: 0

I think this is crazy just because I beleive we need to be witnessing to unbleliver NOW not hoping an email will get to our loved ones or friends. If you really care about them witness to them NOW before its too late. I want my loved ones to go with me to heaven not left behind to go through the 7 years of torment.

We are not responsible to the opinions of the world. Remember how Jesus was killed? We are responsible to our Lord, and to other believers in the Church, to be wise and obedient servants. We must do as conscience dictates and be ready for when we "will be hated by all nations because of His name". This hatred is one sign of the approaching return of Christ.

Another sign is very clear, the gospel will be preached in every nation. This is happening or close to happening.

For people who take Jesus' teaching in the Scripture seriously, this is the sort of thing that they ought to be doing, I suppose.

Was Jesus a joke? How about Paul, Peter, James, John, Jude? Were they all a joke? All these men talked about the end times.

How about God Himself? He gave many prophecies about the end times through the Old Testament Prophets. Is He a joke?

Many people, too many to count and know, have come into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ after reading Hal Lindsey's "The Late Great Planet Earth". Is that a joke?

    What a joke.

Protestants are always looking for ways to make money on the end times. The money machine of the Evangelical Protestant Church, which I was a member of and a Pastor for 20 years, uses Revelation to sell more books than any of the other Gospels or Epistles combined. This type of merchandixing makes the Pope who sold indulgences look pretty good.

Quecat, you are assuming the rapture takes place at the beginning of the 70th week of Daniel. I am not. Search the scriptures like I suggested instead of dismissing me out of hand especially the Olivette Discourse. Look at the order that Jesus is telling his Disciples of the things to come. Remember the Parable of: the wedding supper and the door was shut or, the ten virgins. I don't think the Lord was joking. I used to believe in a pre-trib rapture thinking that the whole 70th week was the start of the trib, not so. I believe the scriptures place the rapture of the church between the sixth and seventh trump spoken by John in the book of Revelations. There are many theories with the same scripture. But scripture is true.

The idea of the rapture comes from Matthew 24:
36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven,[e] but My Father only. 37 But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 38 For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, 39 and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 40 Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left.
I think the web site is interesting for those who want to participate.

You are here now!! I still don't know if the rapture will happen as some may think it will or it won't.

The important point: Do you not care and love your friends and family enough to reach out to them right now and share the gospel of Jesus?? You are not promised tomorrow, now is the accepted time, if you are a believer in Jesus, to reach out to those who are not; and if you are not a believer to repent and trust in Jesus Christ!!!

I have left similar letters and important documents in my own file cabinet at home in a place that would seem obvious to folks needing information as to the disposition of my belongings and money in the event of my death as well as rapture.
Despite years of witnessing, I have no reason to know beyond a doubt that my parents have a relationship with Christ. They DO however, have a key to my house, my pantry and my file cabinet. I've done all I can for them and continue as I am able to be a witness. The only thing that remains is that I am assured of one final message and some material help is awaiting them, should the rapture occur and they are left here to face the unthinkable.

    cyhi,

Scripture does not indicate that there will be no one saved during the tribulation.
    On the contrary.
Revelation 20:4 says "And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and [I saw] the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received [his] mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

This is plainly speaking of Godly persons who were present on earth during the Beast's reign.
Had they been saved prior to the tribulation, they would have already been raptured. No?

Luk 21:36 " Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man. "

Sooooo, what if 3 of the webmasters die and no one knows how to change the password to login? Or they go on vacation without internet access? Or what if a hacker thinks it would be funny to get into the site and send out all the emails? Or even worse get into all your financial documents? Also, do they really think all of those email addresses will stay the same? Or even that during this time the internet would even be working?!

I'm sorry but while their intentions are really good this website is pretty bogus! Espeically charging fellow Christians to hold such sensitive information on a site that may or may not be protected against intruders!! This seems to me to be another one of those t.v. evangalist money schemes taking advantage of trusting Christians once again.

    Matt 36-40

36"No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 37As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 40Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. 41Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left.

Keep in mind, to us, a "long time" is 100 years. To God, that's like a blinking of an eye. The birth pains have started and they cannot be stopped. Repent and follow Jesus so that you may spend eternity in Heaven! Jesus spoke way too much about the end times for it not to be true. Notice what he said in the scripture i posted above. Two will be in a field, one will be taken and one will be left. It's going to happen, it's just a matter of when. Be prepared.

I believe that it was Martin Luther who said, “If I knew that Christ would return this fall, I would still plant my garden this spring.”

If Christ were to return in our lifetime, what would He have to say to the church, about the environment, global warming, health care, our consumer culture, our treatment of the poor, greed, war, factions and in fighting, hesitation in sharing the good news. . .?

Still, if one truly believes that the second coming of Christ is just around the corner, this scheme does have a certain logic.

  • Mon Jun 09, 2008 11:28 am Agree: 1   Disagree: 3

Actually - there is another site that I'm aware of that will send such messages for free.
No other bells and whistles - so it costs virtually nothing to run and thus the users incur no charges.

The sentiments behind an effort such as this are genuine. Ridicule it if you will, but it makes as much sense as writing your Will. If you truly are a born again Christian and understand that Christ may return at any moment, be it today or hundreds of years from now, it would be prudent to "set your house in order".
If I've left a last will and testament and orderly reference to important documents, etc. in the event that I may die at any moment, why would I not do the same for those I leave behind in the event of Christ's return?
If I've witnessed to them all my life and they continue on in stubborn unbelief, I guarantee you they are going to remember my words to them when I and millions of others are simply GONE one day (if such happens within my lifetime).

The only folks that are thinking this 'gruesome', are those that ridicule the idea of the Lord's return anyway.
But in the financial mess and otherwise chaos that the rapture would precipitate - having access to your left behind belongings and finances, may just give your unbelieving family members the precious time and resources they need in order to reconsider Christ's claims and or spread the gospel themselves.

You may not reap the harvest, but Christ promises that you, as the sower, will be equally rewarded.

Jhn 4:36-8 "And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.
And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.
I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours."

the website may be questionable in its efficacy, but its heart is in the right place -- to reach out to others for Christ. i also think it's a very creative idea to provide people with a way to keep their assets from becoming state property in the event of the Rapture. the signs surround us that the end is near. the buddying up of iran and russia... escalating threats against israel... the general level of depravity in society world-wide...

mr. mckee should be ashamed of his comments as a Christian. this is the crux of the modern Christian movement and concerns far more than just YouveBeenLeftBehind.com. for too long Christianity, especially in the u.s., has generally been too caught up with how it looks to the outside world, instead preferring to conform to the world's standards of what role and likeness Christianity should take in society and in people's personal lives. this is a very dangerous mentality, and a very grave mistake. we have been called out of the world to be lights unto the darkness. WE are to set the example, to be unabashed witnesses for God in a world that desperately wants to run away from Him. we see a culture who shamelessly blasphemes the Lord, abortion on demand, the proliferation of homosexuality and homosexual marriage, the removal of everything that honors God from the public domain... do we really want to be taking advice on how to be good Christians from this lot?

the bottom line: do we love Christ? are we willing to do what is undesirable and what the world might view as 'strange' if it means possibly gathering souls to Christ? with regards to the website, it is ultimately up to God whether it gets off the ground or not. we should be putting our trust and fear in Him, not in the wicked society that surrounds us.

Whether you're pre-trib, mid-trib, post-trib... this is funny. I'd suggest people reach out before Christ returns.
