Obama to Woo Young Evangelicals, Catholics

By Jennifer Riley|Christian Post Reporter

Barack Obama will soon unveil his new plan to woo young evangelicals and Catholics in hopes of turning them into Obama voters this November.

The “Joshua Generation Project” - a name based on the biblical story of Joshua and his generation, which led the Israelites into the Promised Land – aims to reach out to young people of faith on moral issues such as poverty, Darfur, climate change, and the Iraq war, according to Christian Broadcasting Network’s The Brody File.

“There's unprecedented energy and excitement for Obama among young evangelicals and Catholics,” said a source close to the Obama campaign to CBN’s David Brody on Friday. “The Joshua Generation project will tap into that excitement and provide young people of faith opportunities to stand up for their values and move the campaign forward.'"

The campaign acknowledges that some young faith voters will automatically rule out Obama because of his pro-abortion rights stance, but it hopes others will come aboard when they hear about other values which they see “eye to eye” with the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee.

"Whatever you think of the 'Joshua Generation Project,' you have to give the campaign their due because they are making concerted efforts to NOT ignore faith voters,” Brody commented. “In my reporting, I can tell you this is not a contrived effort. The folks behind this believe in not only the mission of winning over faith voters to Obama but the larger mission of not ignoring faith voters when it comes to politics."

According to a new survey out Monday, Obama is leading presumptive Republican presidential candidate John McCain among several Protestant sectors. Obama garnered 44 percent to McCain’s 36 percent among modernist evangelicals, according to the survey on religion and politics by Calvin College.

And Obama leads by more than 10 percent among centrists and modernist mainline Protestants compared to McCain. He also leads by a landslide among African American Protestants – 83 percent to 9 percent.

But Obama’s effort to reach out to young Christians is hitting a road bump as he faces possible legal trouble with the project’s name. Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) is threatening to sue Obama for trademark infringement since its “Generation Joshua” group was established in 2003, according to ABC News.

The HSLDA’s “Generation Joshua” works with Christian youth between the ages of 11 and 19 who want to be active in the civic and political arenas, said the group’s Web site.

“This is an improper invasion of our trademark and we've retained legal counsel to notify the Obama campaign to stop this,” HSLDA’s co-founder, chairman, and general counsel, Michael Farris, told Washington-based Roll Call newspaper on Monday.

Farris also wrote a 2005 book called, “The Joshua Generation: Restoring the Heritage of Christian Leadership.”

Prior to the legal dispute, the Obama campaign said it planned to launch the program within two weeks.

*** People of faith are voting McCain - Palin ***

Some facts on Obama's voting and speaking against the teaching of Christ:

    - Obama votes to kill babies born alive. These are people Jesus loves.

    - Obama calls traditional marriage, which Jesus ordained, "divisive".

    - Biden's church has told Biden not to take communion.

Let's vote for McCain - Palin beacuse they care for all babies and marriage - instead of voting because someone is black or speaks well.

I am a christian and upset by the use of the house of the Lord being used in such a way and Obama just sit there over a span of 20 years.

Obama set in the church of Rev. Wright for over twenty years. He only left that church when the public complained. Now, the Rev. Wright talked about hating whites, Jews, America and anything not black. Now, Rev. Wright is a man of GOD so he says.
When, the pastor preached to hate whites, Obama set there even when he knew that disrespected his white mother and grandparents who loved and raised him. His father did not do that.
When, the pastor preached to hate America, Obama as a public official of USA and swore to defend it set as the hate America was strewn.
When, the pastor preached hate he disrespected the house of the Lord. Church is for worship of GOD not to preach hate. How, dare Obama set there and listen to the hate in a church. The Rev. was supposed to be a man of GOD and GOD is love. You should never use the house of GOD to spew hate. I totally do not like OBAMA because he disrespects GOD by letting hate enter into his house.
His views on the economy and world view is scary but, his lack of respect for the Lord is bad.
I am mixed as Obama and attend a black church. Blacks love GOD and I am offended that it makes it look as though black use the house of GOD to preach hate. This is only Rev. Wrights church and his parishioner.

I’m going to invoke some scripture on behalf of Barack.

“Malicious witnesses rise up; they ask me of things I do not know. They repay evil for good…The smiters whom I did not know gathered together against me. They slandered me without ceasing. Like Godless jesters at a feast, they gnashed at me with their teeth…Do not let those who are wrongfully my enemies rejoice over me; neither let those who hate me wink maliciously. For they do not speak peace, but they devise deceitful words against those who are quiet in the land…And they opened their mouths wide against me; they said “Aha, aha, our eyes have seen it!”…Do not let them say in their heart “Aha, our desire!”

“Let them shout for joy and rejoice who favor my vindication.” Psalms 35:11, 15, 16,
    19-25, 27

I see why Obama is targeting young evangelicals and Catholics. Both groups are simple minded and willing to follow cults.

Matthew 7: 15 "Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them. The Pied Piper of Obamanation will find his pipe filled with trouble and its sound silenced as November approaches as more facts become known about his seriously questionable Chicago political ties.

Black Liberation Theology is a dangerous and extreme Marxist cult and Barack Hussein Obama was for 20 years hip deep in it.

The reason so many support Obama (I'm a Hillary Clinton fan myself) is because the war-mongering Bush presidency was so abominable. After what Bush has done, I'd support Michael Jackson for president as opposed to another Republican.

He can't be the anti-christ, I don't think. But maybe him being President plays into the end times. You are right, they are not moral issues! No Christian with a conscience could continue in what he is doing and feel right about it. People are voting for this guy, and are not even aware of what his agenda really is. People voting for him are a reflection of American society with the nice talking flashy outer shell. But deep within there is evil.

Obama's definition of Moral issues is a lie from the pit of hell. Poverty, Darfur, climate change, and the Iraq war are not moral issues. They are man-made issues. Real moral issues are LYING, ABORTION, SAME SEX ANYTHING, ISLAMOFACISM just to name a few.

The Church has failed our young people of faith if they believe Obama is a man of faith if this is what he believes. I pray that our young people are not susceptible to Obama's "dumbing down."

Hey, until he denounces abortion and gay-rights then I don't see any reason for a Christian to support him. Plain and simple!
