Pro-Gay International Resolution Draws Criticism

By Joshua Goldberg|Christian Post Reporter

A recent decision by the Organization of American States to pass a resolution that would make efforts to criminalize human rights violations on the basis of sexual orientation drew strong criticism from pro-family groups this week.

Pro-family groups said that the international lobby, which serves to promote regional solidarity among nations throughout North and South America, had pandered to the influence of numerous homosexual activist organizations.

"Once again, a political institution has been co-opted by the international homosexual movement,” said Larry Jacobs, global coordinator of the World Congress of Families, in a statement.

Jacobs explained that as the majority of people across the Americas are opposed to homosexuality, the resolution could be considered a slap in the face to local, traditional culture and customs.

“Once again, a transnational organization has chosen to enlist with one side in the culture war, to the manifest displeasure of majorities in the nations they represent,” he said.

The General Assembly of the Organization of American States, made up of 35 independent states, unanimously adopted on June 3 the “Resolution on Human Rights, Sexual Orientation, and Gender Identity” during its 38th session in Medellín, Colombia. The resolution condemns human rights violations based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

Scott Long, director of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Rights Program at Human Rights Watch, said theresolution was about promoting a culture that would oppose all forms of discrimination.

“This resolution is a bold first step toward ending violence and discrimination,” Long highlighted in a statement. “For the resolution to have an impact, concrete changes in law and policy must follow.”

Jacobs, however, argued that the notion of opposing anti-gay discrimination was wrong if it meant rejecting societal norms.

"Does anti-gay discrimination include laws limiting marriage to a man and a woman or limiting adoption to families with mothers and fathers? Would it require schools to affirm homosexuality and the other unhealthy perversions? Could it lead to 'hate crimes laws' and speech codes that criminalize dissent?" he posed.

The World Congress of Families, one of the largest international family advocate organisations active throughout the world, works to promote the values of the traditional family as the “basis of all healthy and progressive civilizations.”

slacker, totally agree accept we need to move the statement from the future to the present and all we need to do is look to Canada to see that it is already happening as a Pastor was recently arrested for preaching about the sin of homosexuality.

    to 1Man:

"Mike :What a foolish article! This has nothing to do with making it illegal to speak out against homosexuality or about a state's decision to allow or ban gay marriage and gay adoption. This has to do with people who are being harassed, tortured, and killed due to their sexual orientation or gender identity.. . . . My problem with this statement is that if it is referring to people being tortured, and or killed then the law already condemns these actions regardless of sexual orientation. Harassment is the word that is haunting me....I could say my boss is harassing me because I'm not doing what he wants....I can either quit or deal with it. Concerning sexual orientation, harassment or as they said "discrimination" against such is impossible to avoid. Churches that hold to the doctrine outlined in the bible must as a necessity of conscience toward God reject people with any sexual orientation outside of the covenant of marriage (between a man and a woman) (I can't believe I actually have to write that). . . .Let's see a staunch supporter of anti-gay activism fight his way into a court case of discrimination if they were to try and get a job with the L.G.B.T. committee. "

Inresponse to this post it is about making it illegal to speak out against homosexuality. It isn't to far off when someone that opposes homosexuality is put in jail because some one that affirms it thinks that person is discriminating against them just for speaking against it. Mark my words that is coming....

Seems some have no God, and no Fear in God The word of God will not work on those that dont believe in God or his word....Only works for those that want to change there life to live for God, and a better life to be saved...So I guess we will see on Judgement day who is right God and his word or Mans law...Looks like a lot of people in big trouble if Gods word is true and men have become liars to fit there sinful life style...America and leaders wake up !!!! You have brought a curse to our Nation under God......Camaro

BTW those verses are from a translation that must come from the far left because those verses don't read like that. You know the far leftist who lie and manipulate to fit their agenda. If you think about it, the godless can lie all they want because they don't have any god to worry about - right? Shoot, if I were a godless person, I'd be able to have sex with as many women as I wanted, lie all I want and party hardy. Wow! Biggie, it must be the life?

    Hey biggie -

A theologian you're not. Christians live by the NT , but many Muslims and Jews still live by the OT and thus I do actually have respect for those Muslims who live those verses out because we do read about it in the news almost daily - right.

Mike: I don't know if you live in California or not, but I just heard on the news today that "California is hotter than hell". Do you suppose there may be some correlation? Ummm

Where do you think the word Sodomy comes from. It's common knowledge and historically documented through Jewish, Islamic and Christian interpretation that homosexuality is sin and God condemns it. It's up to you to prove where in history do we have a society that existed with gay documentation. NONE. It's a scourge to society. One common denominator of when a society starts to decline is in the area of sexuality: Once the sexual morals of a society decline (homosexuality is just one of those symptoms), so does the society.

Is Sodom and Gomorrah the only society we're talking about, and can you document that embracing gays are the reason these societies fell? I would like to see that documentation, if its available. I'm not sure you read or understood the point of my post, either.

    Mike -

You're either live in a cave or you didn't read the article well enough to understand the context from which they're writing.

As we Americans slide down the slope of immorality, sinfulness and godlessness organizations like the one in this article will continue to fall to the gay agenda. However, the bigger picture continues to be overlooked and that is: NO society has ever existed that has embrassed the gay lifestyle to be able to have record of positive results. Gay individuals have been around since recorded history, unfortunately, the record shows that when they start to thrust themselves to mainstream, that society dies. Look at Sodom and Gomorrah.
