Obama's Joshua Generation Project Hits Legal Rift with Homeschoolers

By Lawrence Jones|Christian Post Reporter

The Obama campaign said it will drop the use of the name "Joshua Generation" to dub an effort to attract younger faith voters after learning that a homeschooling group already claimed trademark rights to a very similar name.

The campaign for Sen. Barack Obama in June revealed plans to launch a major new program to woo younger evangelicals and Catholics voters. The effort went by the name "Joshua Generation Project" and involved reaching out to young faith voters on issues such as poverty, Darfur, climate change and the Iraq war, Christian Broadcasting Network’s The Brody File had reported.

But upon learning of the project, lawyers with the Home School Legal Defense Association – an advocate group for home schooling rights – sent a letter asking the Obama campaign to stop usage of the name. The 83,000-strong organization pointed out that it owns trademark rights to both "Generation Joshua" and "Generation Joshua & Design."

In a response letter, the Obama campaign said it "respects the intellectual property of others" and would honor the request.

"As you may already know, the Campaign is no longer planning on using the 'Joshua Generation Project' name or any other confusingly similar name in the future," the letter stated, according to HSLDA.

“We’re pleased the Obama campaign has acknowledged our trademark rights,” said HSLDA Chairman Mike Farris.

Since 2004, the HSLDA has been training young Christians between the ages of 11 to 19 who wish to enter civic and political arenas under the Generation Joshua banner.

Although the idea of "Joshua Generation" will no longer be spotlighted in presidential campaigns this time around, Farris hopes the spirit embodied in Generation Joshua will resurface somewhere in the political future.

“I want some of these young people to be the senators and congressmen and governors and state legislators, and maybe even president of the United States someday,” he said.

According to CBN's David Brody, the Obama campaign is now holding a "contest" find a replacement name.

I have my strong reservations of Obama. And he does carry a few more of the attributes of the Anti-Christ than any other person alive. No so much that I would call him such, but that I am watchin him closely.

Mr. Obama needs to forget trying to "woo" anyone. He can simply just be an honest, forthright and humble man, who only wants the best for this country. The election must be baised on the preceeding into about him, not the fact that the Joshua name will possess the land. Those who are honest, hardworking and willing will be the ones who are going to possess the land. Not some particular
group with a Bible sounding name. How many Bible carrying believers are NOT honest and hard working and
not possessing anything, of their own choice. PLEASE.

Jesus could not be accused of any unrighteous act or word because he did his Fathers will and of course he is God and is without sin. Those who walk in the Spirit of God are Righteous and speak on behalf of Christ and cannot be accused of unrighteous acts if they are in the Spirit , because they are doing just as Jesus would have done and are in the same Spirit! So if a servant and Ambassador of Christ says one is anti-christ they cant be called on that, that they did something unrighteous any more if Jesus himself were here posting the same thing. We who are Saved by the blood of the Lamb and have his Spirit, are his personal Representatives and speak on Christ's that is God's behalf. We cannot be accused of anything wrong when in that capacity anymore than God can be accused! so there. Read em and weep baby thats a winning hand.
I should add that as his Representative we do as Jesus would and gather evidence to support our Judgement and weigh it carefully using God's ways and wisdom to bring forth a Righteous verdict. We are called to do this, God trains us to be wise and unpartial carefully evaluating evidence as he does.
1 corinthians chapters 5 an 6 are a good read. 2 timothy, 2 peter, Matthew 18:15-17 is telling us how to handle someone in the body of Christ who sins against us. and theres alot more. "Be ye Separate"

2Corinthians 6:14 "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
2Co 6:15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
2Co 6:16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
2Co 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
2Co 6:18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty."

Claiming Barack Obama is Anti-Christ is inappropriate here and way over the top. I think George Bush's actions are very evil, but I don't presume every person that engages in bad behavior is an Anti-Christ.

First off, if you are trying to scare people about Barack Obama, than you are not acting like a true Christian. The Lord says " don't fear anything except the Lord of the armies of heaven, if you fear Him, you need fear nothing else. Isa 8:13 When you keep referring to Anti-Christ and Revelations, you sound like astrologers and fortune tellers. You have a clear command to " love one another" 1 John 4:7 These spiritual battles belong to the Lord. The truth is you pretend to know something yuou have no knowledge of. Also, it is ok to tell somone who is about to get in a car drunk, that it is foolish, but it is not ok to call him a fool. You can condemn the action, but not the person. You are not the judge of the living and the dead that is Christ's job and he doesn't need help from a sinner! " And I tell you must give account on Judgment Day for every idle word you speak. Your words now reflect you fate then; either you will be justified by them or condemned." Matt 12:36,37

Well, of course, it was at a church forum - what'd you expect.... a Muslim message there? He's a chameleon goof. Besides, Osama may be stupid, but he ain't that stupid - if you let his true colors known at a place like that, he'd be toast.

In the interest of being fair... this is an Obama quote from last Saturday where he was speaking at a church forum: ""In my own life, it's been a journey that began decades ago on the South Side of Chicago, when, working as a community organizer, helping to build struggling neighborhoods, I let Jesus Christ into my life. I learned that my sins could be redeemed and that if I placed my trust in Christ, that he could set me on the path to eternal life when I submitted myself to his will and I dedicated myself to discovering his truth and carrying out his works."

    slopez-

Obamanation is a friend of a demon "behind every bush"! LOL

ronwilson4u: I agree with your statement. Especially with being deceived by the likes Obama. In no way am I a "conspiracy" theorist and/or one who tries to find a demon behind every bush. However, as I read the Word of God, 1 John 2:22-23 is very powerful not only for Obama, Oprah and all the "universalists", this is for anyone and everyone who has this philosophy. Read what it says, "Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ. This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son. Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also." It's as simple as that! As chapter 4 of 1 John tells us, this is the "spirit" of the antichrist. I believe that Obama, Oprah and/or anyone who does not believe that Jesus is the Christ is a form of the spirit of the antichrist. Obama needs to be real in his beliefs and stand on one thing or soon enough it is going to catch up on him as it seems to already be doing!
