Christopher Laurie, son of Pastor Greg Laurie of Harvest Christian Fellowship, died in a car accident Thursday morning.

Christopher Laurie, 33, was killed when his vehicle crashed into the back of a Caltrans truck on the eastbound 91 Freeway near Serfas Club Drive in Corona, Calif. He was on his way to Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside.

"Please pray for Pastor Greg and the Laurie family," says Friday's devotional by Pastor Greg Laurie, who leads Harvest, a 15,000-member church. "Christopher Laurie ... was called home to be with the Lord."

Christopher served as the art director at Harvest for the past three years.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Brittany, daughter, Stella, and his brother, Jonathan. His wife is expecting another daughter in November.

The accident comes just weeks before the well-known evangelist, Greg Laurie, is scheduled to lead his 19th annual Southern California Harvest Crusade at Angel Stadium, Aug. 15-17.

Plans for a memorial service have not yet been announced.

    Dear Greg

I am so sorry dear brother to hear of your families loss of your son yesterday. You know more than anyone the blessed hope and comfort that the gospel of Jesus Christ for Christopher brings. He is with the Lord! But yet our Lord wept at Lazarus;s grave too. In your weeping and sorrow may you find rest in Him. I have lost my father and two brothers as well. It is never easy. But thanks be to God that nothing can separate us from His love. My whole family will be praying for you all during these difficult days.

Grace and peace to you, Brittany and the entire Laurie household.

O LORD Jesus Christ, who by thy death didst take away the sting of death; Grant unto us thy servants so to follow in faith where thou hast led the way, that we may at length fall asleep peacefully in thee, and awake up after thy likeness; through thy mercy, who livest with the Father and the Holy Ghost, world without end. Amen.

Ethan, whatever your opinion of Greg Laurie's theology, an article concerning his son's death is most certainly not the place to express it. Take a moment to read Matthew 5 and pray about your own spirit.

Father, please guide and strengthen Pastor Laurie and his family. Please help him to feel your presence, give him peace and grace during this time where he may question you and not understand why this was a part of your plan. Help him to understand that you are in total control and you will use what seems unjust for the salvation of many. Just as you did with Tony Dungy when he lost his son.

    InChrist,
    Amen

Father in the name of Jesus, please comfort the Laurie Family with Great comfort in this time of Tragedy. It cant be even imagined what his wife is experiencing now, to lose her husband her love must be more than a person can bear, but you will carry her through this and you will show the whole world how you care and comfort in all times of sorrow and loss. You are God and we worship you alone, Amen

I listen to Greg Laurie's podcasts occasionally and he strikes me as a very good, funny, kind, devout man of God. I am so, so terribly sorry for his loss. I will pray for you, Greg. I cannot imagine such a terrible loss and tragedy. To think that his son was on his way to the chapel to participate in the service.

One day the Lord will wipe away all tears from our eyes. Everyone please pray for Greg and his family. There is a baby that will be born in November that will never know its father.

Pastor Greg, you and your family are in my prayers. For a short time only shall we press on in this life, seeking to be used by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, until the day we see Him face to face. As Friend, not as Judge. For a short time only and then we will be reunited with those saints who have gone before.

For now, His grace is sufficient to take us through trial, through triumph, through mountains, through valleys. Weeping may last for the night, my dear, dear brother, but HALLELUJAH! PRAISE BE TO GOD. JOY COMES IN THE MORNING.

May He strengthen you all. May He cause His face to shine upon you. and May He grant you His peace.
