DENVER - John McCain tapped little-known Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to be his vice presidential running mate on Friday in a startling selection on the eve of the Republican National Convention.
Two senior campaign officials disclosed Mccain's decision a few hours before the Republican presidential nominee-to-be and his newly-minted running mate appeared at a rally in swing-state Ohio.
Palin is a self-styled hockey mom and political reformer who has been governor of her state less than two years.
Palin's selection shocked numerous Republican officials.
In making his pick, McCain passed over several more prominent prospects who had figured in speculation for months — Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge among them.
At 44, Palin is a generation younger that Sen. Joseph Biden of Delaware, who is Barack Obama's running mate on the Democratic ticket.
She is three years Obama's junior, as well — and McCain has made much in recent weeks of Obama's relative lack of experience in foreign policy and defense matters.
Palin flew overnight to an airport in Ohio near Dayton, and even as she awaited her formal introduction, some aides said they had believed she was at home in Alaska.
She is a former mayor of Wasilla who became governor of her state in December, 2006 after ousting a governor of her own party in a primary and then dispatching a former governor in the general election.
More recently, she has come under the scrutiny of an investigation by the Republican-controlled legislature into the possibility that she ordered the dismissal of Alaska's public safety commissioner because he would not fire her former brother-in-law as a state trooper.

Dear thelordismylight,
I happen to think the republicans who think Sarah Palin is qualified for even a storekeeper are pretty ignorant, or they just believe that because she is a believer, like I am, that makes her absolutely smart. I'm sorry, but I truly am concerned about our country, and I couldn't imagine her running the country.
TLIML, actually I say that about both parties, i vote against all incumbents unless they are term limited.

My religion brings me joy. But the ignorance of the Democratic party does not :)
thelordismylight, just seems like you have lots of anger, not healthy, I thought religion was suppose to bring a person some degree of joy. I thought that was the reason for religion.

Interesting read.
citsonga,
"Be angry and sin not". Nothing wrong with being angry. Even Jesus got angry.
TLIML,
Not to be rude, but "I heard (read) it somewhere" doesn't cut it. I'm sure, in this age of information, you can find the statistics somewhere....
Prophet-
I read it in the newspaper. I remember the number because I found it interesting and I knew I could use it somewhere.
Scits-
Oh excuse me for not being immune to anger. I forgot you were perfect.
tliml ".....and I am angry."
why the anger, I thought the lord is your light, shouldnt you be happy?
TLIML,
Could you quote your source? Or are you just merely making conjecture in hopes of an argument?
I bet at least 2 out of every 10 protestants on this site are members of a white supremecy group.

Yes, I am white, and I am angry. However I have nothing to fear because it is the WASPS that kill african americans and not Catholics. There are three or four reasons to vote for a pres. in order from most to least important. One: Platform. Barack's platform barely stands out from Clinton's or Edward's, universal healthcare, higher taxes on the wealthy, hugs and kisses for the poor, blah blah blah. Two: Experience. Barack has like two years. Three: Accomplishments. Barack has none. Four: Patriotic service. Barack has none. One and two are arguably interchangeable at times. Since Barack doesn't stand out in any of the four categories, how come he is seeing such overwhelming support? How come he beat hillary and edwards when they both had: more experience and more accomplishments than did Barack? How come since he had nearly the same, if not worse a platform than his two opponents, he still won? He's black. Plain and simple. Don't pretend I'm being racist, to say so would be very immature. NINETY THREE PERCENT of black voters ADMITTED they were voting for him because he was black! I bet there are at least another 4% that are voting for him cuz he's black but WOULDN'T admit it! Not to mention the hispanic votes that he'll probably sieze because they're minorities! However, I'm quite confident that McCain will win this election. The more I get to know about Palin... really the more I like her. And unlike barack she doesn't own half an oil company.
proph, thats funny
Wow, that sounds like the beginning of a really bad single's ad! LOL.
thelordismylight , angry white guy?
Stan-
Barack is not called a celebrity because of his speeches. He is called a celebrity because he is one. He hangs out with Paris and Clooney... As for his speeches his staff admits that he has NEVER gone through any public speech or debate without cards or teleprompters. McCain has gone dozens of speeches without either of them. And Sarah Palin is a very good politician. The more I know about her, the more I like her. Barack earned where he is? In total, TOTAL he has only about three years political experience. In total Palin has over 20. Barack GOT where he is because of racist voters voting for him just because he's black. 93% of african american voters said they are voting for Obama because he is black. Beyond being able to move his right hand forward and then his left, he cannot do anything except talk about change change change change that will never ever ever ever ever come. (Sarah gives WAY better speeches than Barack) Know why Barack (two years experience) is in front of Biden (10+ experience)? It's because your party is racist.
