Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Islam, declared tomorrow to be the kingdom’s first day of the holy month, during which Muslims are required to abstain from food, drink and sex from dawn until dusk.

Thousands of people speaking more than 30 languages in countries around the world are expected to participate, according to Mission Network News, one of the organizers of the effort.

"I believe whole-heartedly that the only way to reach the Muslim world is through a concerted prayer effort,” said MNN's executive director Greg Yoder. “That's why we're getting behind this effort.”

He added, “So many Christians won't witness to Muslims because they don't know anything about them. This could be the first step in gaining that understanding."

MNN has worked with Youth with a Mission, the main organizer of the effort, for three years in a row to promote the campaign. YWAM has offered the prayer guide on its own for the past 17 years.

This year, Ramadan begins on Sept. 1 and ends on Sept. 30. During this period, Muslims will fast and pray, trying to realign their lives with Islamic teachings. They will try to make peace with those who have wronged them, strengthen ties with family and friends, and avoid wrong actions, thoughts, and words.

Meanwhile, Christians taking part in the campaign will go on a month-long prayer walk aimed at opening a way for Muslims to learn about Jesus Christ the Savior.

Prayer participants will use the 30 Days Muslim Prayer Guide by YWAM to learn about Islam and Islamic communities around the world. The 30-page guide will take readers around the world each day and provide several prayer points related to that day’s subject.

Paul Filidis, director of communications for YWAM, said besides educating Christians, the campaign also is “expanding our ability to love.”

“As you pray for people, you get God’s perspective, God’s heart, and it’s hard not to have a certain love for them that transcends the headlines,” he said.

Filidis believes that prayers must have played a role in Muslims that have come to Christ through dreams and visions.

According to estimates, there are more than 1.3 billion Muslim around the world.

There are many people in muslim countries that are by law not allowed to leave Islam.

There are also muslims that feel insulted to be prayed for(but why should they speak for every muslim? is that not a sign that they are in fact intolerant of those among them that wish to think for themselves).

These wish that Christians stop praying for muslims altogether.

We must not be afraid to point out these facts, and that at the very least we are praying for those that wish to leave Islam(and there are many that are not allowed by sharia law), and those that persecute them.,

Yes, we are commanded to pray for them all, in the hope that in their turn they will answer Christs call. For Christs Word will penetrate their utter darkness and shine in their midst. Ultimately, their response will be either to flee from that light, or welcome it as life itself.

Pray therefore that the spiritual darkness be removed, and Christ light be allowed to shine in the hearts of men.

This is the 3rd day of Ramadan in Indonesia.

From past experience, most of the restaurants shall reopen tomorrow for their daily business, behind dark curtains for fear of FPI/laskar jihad/mujahideen.

FPI announced that it is haram for any restaurant selling foods to people during Ramadan in daytime except for takeouts.

Most muslim here, just fast for the first three days including the taraweeh salat each sundown
    - and the last three days of Ramadan in the end of September including the Ied salat.

The pork chops and beans restaurants have all their Ramadan specials for breakfast, including Mohammad's specials

Every muslimah wear hijab during Ramadan and returns to tank top after Ied. Its so humid here for hijab, its unnatural.

So what else is new. We still eat and drink and smoke and do our things like normal in public space during Ramadan

    Cheers!

I think that's a good idea. A 30 day prayer for the muslims that God would open their eyes to the truth and that their hearts would be open and ready for the news of the Gospel. We should pray that God would send people into their culture to boldly proclaim the truth of Jesus Christ so that muslims would come to a saving knowlege of Christ.

wrhalver: "My prayer is that these Christians have enough knowledge and experience in the Christian faith to be strong witnesses to anyone."

So true. I have seen too many times when a muslim will know more about the Bible and the basic tenets of Christianity than the Christian that is trying to witness to them. The end result? The Christian gets tied into proverbial knots and the muslim is reassured and strengthened in that 7th Century fairy-tale called islam.

My prayer is that these Christians have enough knowledge and experience in the Christian faith to be strong witnesses to anyone.

May the Holy Spirit be with you.
