Christians Pay Tribute to Mother Teresa on 98th Birthday Anniversary

[-] Text [+]

Amid the increasing religious commotion in India’s Orissa state, Christians in the country commemorated the 98th birth anniversary of Nobel Peace Prize winner Mother Teresa with prayers and petition for peace and harmony between the communities.

A special mass was held on Aug. 26 at the headquarters of Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity (MC) in Kolkata, India, during which an appeal was made for prayers for suffering Christians in Orissa.

The Calcutta archdiocese's Father Michael Bhaju, who led the Mass, appealed to people to pray for peace in Orissa, where thousands have been forced to flee from their homes. He urged the nuns to keep their founder's memory alive by following her steps in love, reconciliation, truth and gentleness.

The occasion was attended by hundreds of people, many of them drawn from some of the city’s poorest communities, were the Roman Catholic nun had dedicated her life’s work.

A Catholic source noted that the chapel was filled with nuns, co-workers, volunteers, friends, reporters and television crews as usual, but elaborate decorations, gaiety and rejoicing were absent.

MC Sister Maria told the Union of Catholic Asian News (UCA News) that children from the nuns' Shishu Bhavan (home for children), who usually come all dressed in their best to sing and dance at Mother Teresa’s tomb, did not come this year because of "all the terrible trouble in Orissa."

Since the violence began late last month with the killing of a Hindu leader – which police blamed on Maoist rebels but Hindu activists blamed on Christian militants – at least 558 houses and 17 places of worship have been burned down, leaving nearly 40,000 people homeless as of Monday, according to the Catholic Bishops Conference of India.

At least one MC house was destroyed in the Orissa violence, a source at the headquarters confirmed.

Sister Nirmala Joshi, who heads the congregation, told UCA News on Aug. 26 that the congregation has "many sisters" in Orissa, but "so far they are all safe."

Mother Teresa, an Albanian Roman Catholic nun with Indian citizenship, was born on Aug. 26, 1910 and in 1950 founded the Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata, which today consists of over 450 brothers and 5,000 nuns and operates 600 missions, schools and shelters in over 120 countries.

She won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 and India's highest civilian honor, the Bharat Ratna, in 1980 for her humanitarian work.

The Christian nun internationally famed as a humanitarian and advocate for the poor and helpless, was beatified by Pope John Paul II and given the title “Blessed Teresa of Calcutta.â€

The Main article here is about paying Tribute to Mother Tresa on Her Birth Day.
It dosnt analyse whether She can be Saint or Saved.
If you wish to Pay Tribute along with pay or simply go else to write a new article about Sainthood or Salvation.
I found This Is a place to pay Tribute to a noble Human.
Those Who commanting nausty things in a place where Tributes are being paid are considered to be Inhumans.
I wish Every one to be a Human First.

well to begin i will step on some toes, but its necessary to tell the Truth here.

The Bible talks about Saints but man doesnt appoint them God does. Now is not all who Accept Christ Jesus as their Lord a Saint?? Do we need some man made 'process' to proclaim someone a Saint??

Now on teresa, she was satan's perfect weapon.
Under the guise of Love and Works, she told many "Just be the best Hindu you can be or Just be the best Muslim you can be and you will get to Heaven."

With her power of persuasion she led many down this false path to destruction. As Hitler led many to the Slaughter Physically; so did she Spiritually.

Teresa was not Saved. The catholic church leads many to damnation.

Question: Which one should a person accept? The Bible or the Dark Night of the Soul? Now as for me, I will accept the Bible; you can accept any other doctrine you want.

I condemn no one. I guess you forgot what the Bible said.
Mark 3:28 Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:

29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation.

30 Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.
Let us not for get Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright. For ye know how that afteward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.
Hebrews 6:4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,

5And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

6If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

    Mee,

Not too long ago Protestants paid tribute to Pastor Jerry Falwell for his service to the Christian Church and the Republican Party. So, Christians do pay tribute.
Catholics paid Tribute to him as well. So, you are either wrong or a lot of people were worshipping Pastor Falwell. Paying Tribute is not worshipping. Go look up the definition of worship in the New Webster Dictionary.

Could you use proper English when you write a post? Thanks.

The Book "dark night of the Soul" was an amazing read. It points to how we all have moments of deep searching, feeling of loss and desperation, and most of all moments when we lack faith and then through prayer and supplication we gain a stronger faith.

Physicians say that many times when a leg is broken, the leg heals itself stronger than it was before. This is also true about our faith.

Mother Therese is a pious example of how to live the Beatitudes.

May God richly bless her and all those who came to Christ during her life. It is rumored that she baptized 50,000 people on their death bed to accept Christ as their savior. she baptized them and momemts later they would die.

Way to God Mother Theresa. Thanks for being such a great Christian witness with real human emotions. Your example will and is bearing much fruit.

    holito8:

You haven't researched and read "Dark Night of the Soul" have you?

You have no right to judge the heart of Mother Teresa, that's God's job. If you haven't struggled and questioned your faith in Christ at times then I would imagine you have no real depth of faith, we can only grow in faith in the times we struggle with it. The closer you get to God, the more the enemy will attack and try to get you to loose your faith. If you haven't experienced times like this, then you likely aren't any threat to the devil.

So holito, are you going to criticize and condemn a pious little woman who spent her entire life feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, and giving drink to the thirsty as Jesus instructs. Or, is it just easier to sit cowardly and anonymously behind your keyboard hammering on Catholics because of your opinion of us?

Show some respect, this is a woman who won many souls for Christ, brought kindness, love, hope, and comfort to thousands of people who had none of this.

May the peace of Christ be with you! <><...

holito8: I suggest a little research on the "Dark Night of the Soul." Wikipedia, and the attendant references, might be a good place to start.

The Bible shows over and over about what could happen on a persons midnite hour. Moses ran thru the desert. Elijah went to die under a tree. David ran from his son. However, you will not find one of them denying God. Its ok to feel down trotten but to deny the Trinity or Christ as a result is totally different.
We are hard pressed on every side but not crushed, we are perpexed but not in despair; Persecuted but not forsaken; stuck down but not destroyed, Alway carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus Christ that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body.

Mee: So, using your reasoning "Christians" don't "pay tribute" to the fallen soldiers who defended America on Memorial Day. They also don't "pay tribute" to say a dedicated teacher who is retiring after 30 years in the classroom. Or, I guess Christians don't "pay tribute" to mothers on Mothers Day. Gosh, I didn't know it was that strict. Wow.

Are Christian sure mother Teresa is a saint? She deined the Holy Trinity in her letters. "What do I labor for?" she asked in one letter. "If there be no God, there can be no soul. If there be no soul then, Jesus, You also are not true."
As Christian we know what we labor for, but if you say you don't have you read your Bible. Hebrews 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

It should read " Catholics Pay Tribute.... " because christian don't pray or worship any person, other than Jesus the son of God the Father. Leviticus 26:1
