The missionaries reported in their blog that Bangkok’s state of emergency has not brought any disruptions or dangers to the local missionaries, but that prayers were still needed.
The latest crisis also comes ahead of two top-level Christian conferences that are scheduled to kick off in Thailand over the next two months.
In October, the World Evangelical Alliance will be hosting its 2008 General Conference in Thailand, drawing over 500 leaders from national and regional Evangelical alliances from around the world. WEA is a network of churches in 128 nations that have each formed an evangelical alliance and over 100 international organizations joining together to give a worldwide identity, voice and platform to more than 420 million evangelical Christians.
So far, no special announcements or changes have been made regarding its general conference in Thailand in light of the current crisis.
The Chinese Coordination Center of World Evangelism, on the other hand, has urged prospective participants of its Senior Mission Conference to gather in Thailand with faith.
Seeing the recent social upheaval and instability in Thailand, CCCOWE reminded participants how Satan always brings disruptions in the country of meeting or causes the main-speaker to get sick or experience difficulties, preventing some to people from attending. The center, which was established in 1976 to mobilize Chinese churches to spread the gospel to nations all over the world, encouraged those who have already registered to participate while looking at the testimonies of those who attended past conferences believing in the protection of God.
Since from Sept. 2, the CCCOWE has been praying each day at noon for the Senior Mission Conference. The gathering is to scheduled to begin on Sept. 9 in Thailand.
