COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Focus on the Family says it will lay off or reassign 46 employees next year when it changes the way it ships books, CDs and DVDs.
The conservative Christian ministry said Tuesday that Christian Book Distributors of Peabody, Mass., will take over those operations, cutting distribution costs by more than half.
It's not clear how many of the 46 workers will lose their jobs.
Focus said the move is a response to declining sales, which it attributes to competition from online retailers and big stores like Wal-Mart.
Focus, based in Colorado Springs, has about 1,200 employees. In September 2007, it laid off 30 people and reassigned 15 others to new jobs.
Its founder and chairman is James Dobson.
