Christian and Muslim leaders gather inside Lambeth Palace in London at the conclusion of a three-day meeting that marked the first anniversary of "A Common Word Between Us and You," a statement in which 138 Muslim leaders declared common ground between Christianity and Islam on October 15, 2008.

The 17 prominent Muslims, joined by 19 Christian leaders, denounced the persecution of Iraqi Christians in their communiqué, released Wednesday at an interfaith conference hosted by the Archbishop of Canterbury, according to Episcopal News Service.

It was deeply troubling, the leaders expressed, to learn of the situation in Mosul where more than 8,300 Christians have been forced to flee due to violence from Islamic extremists in the last two weeks.

“We are profoundly conscious of the terrible suffering endured by Iraqi people of every creed in recent years and wish to express our solidarity with them,” the Muslims and Christians leader at the meeting stated. “We find no justification in Islam or Christianity for those promoting the insecurity or perpetrating the violence evident in parts of Iraq.”

They called on religious, political and community leaders to do everything they can to facilitate the return of all persons and communities and ensure a stable environment for all citizens in Iraq.

The 36 religious leaders, including the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Rowan Williams, and the Grand Mufti of Egypt, Dr. Ali Gomaa, were gathering for the meeting, titled, “A Common Word and Future of Christian-Muslim Engagement,” at Lambeth Palace.

Participants addressed issues such as the global economic crisis, interfaith education, different understandings of scriptures, shared moral values, respect for foundational figures in the respective faiths, religious freedom, and the persecution of minorities in Iraq during their Oct. 12-15 meeting.

The Common Word conference, which was hailed as the “most significant” gathering of international Muslim leaders ever to be held in the United Kingdom, was purposely scheduled to mark the first anniversary of “A Common Word Between Us and You” – an unprecedented letter signed by 138 diverse Muslim leaders that sought to find common ground between Christianity and Islam with the aim of global peace.

"In this conference we are celebrating the shared values of love of God and love of neighbor, the basis of A Common Word, whilst reflecting self-critically on how often we fall short of these standards," the group said in the communiqué.

In addition to urging world leaders to address religious persecution in Iraq, the faith leaders also called on global leaders to work together to ensure that the “burden” of the financial crisis and global environmental crisis “does not fall unevenly on the weak and the poor.”

“We must seize the opportunity for implementing a more equitable global economic system that also respects our role as stewards of the earth’s resources,” they said.

Attendees of the Common Word conference included: Metropolitan Gregorios Yohanna Ibrahim of the Syrian Orthodox Church; Dr. Ingrid Mattson, president of the Islamic Society of North America and professor of Islamic Studies and Christian-Muslim Relations at Hartford Seminary in Connecticut; and Professor David Ford, Regius professor of divinity at the University of Cambridge, England.

Egypt’s Sheik Ali Gomaa said at a press briefing that the conference had been a great success “and together we are now on the right path towards the benefit of humanity … We hope to make this world a better place for our children and grandchildren; a place where there is mutual cooperation."

Leaders have committed to the following activities for the coming year:

• Identify and promote the use of educational materials, for all age-groups and in the widest possible range of languages, that offer a fair reflection of the faiths
• Build a network of academic institutions, linking scholars, students and academic resources, with various committees and teams which can work on shared values
• Identify funds to facilitate exchanges between those training for roles of leadership within our religious communities
• Translate significant texts from the two traditions for the use of the other

No matter who calls what name to God, The God of Adam is one and so shall thou worship His Almighty without any graven images of Him.

The God of Adam is known as Yahweh in Christianity, Elohim in Judaism, Iloh or Alloh in Muslims, Eishwar in Hinduism and the names go on. But Almighty The God is One, He is the Beginning and He is The End.

By spreading the dirt, you do not do service to Christian cause. Being a good Christian, we should respect others but do not fail to deliver Jesus Christ's message and be an example of a good Christian.

You and tamna, both of you have not proven anything but hate and misery against others.

Yours truly Momo (Muhammad) is a cursed man.

Although Momo married again and again, he failed to have his flesh and blood to inherit his caliphate.

Khadijah is said to have borne Muhammad four daughters (Ruqayyah binti Muhammad, Umm Kulthum binti Muhammad, Zainab binti Muhammad, Fatimah Zahra) and two sons (Abd-Allah ibn Muhammad and Qasim ibn Muhammad), though all except two of his daughters, Fatimah and Zainab, died before him. Some Shi'a scholars however hold that Fatimah was Muhammad's only daughter.Mariam al-Qibtiyya bore him a son named Ibrahim ibn Muhammad, but the child died when he was two years old.

No sons, no heir = cursed

"A group of high-level Muslim leaders condemned the recent flare in violence against Iraqi Christians and said that there was no justification in Islam for the attacks."

Wha???? I recommend that the "scholars" read the quran and the hadiths. That may clear up their misunderstanding of their own religion's texts - and what it calls for with regard to non-Muslims. Maybe the Grand Mufti from Eqypt should address the persecution of Coptic Christians in his own country.

"Translate significant texts from the two traditions for the use of the other"

Wha?? Do they not know that in the home of Islam (Saudi Arabia) the Bible is forbidden to bring in to the country. Do they not know that people are killed in other Muslim countries for having a Bible in their possession? *Sigh* Maybe they want the Bible translated so the police can more easily identify it when persecuting Christians. Maybe they also want Christian organizations to help pay for having their 7th Century Science Fiction book translated to all other languages so they can spread the "Religion of Peace" at Christian expense.

What is truly sad is that so-called Christian leaders are appearing to be nothing more than willing dhimmi's by NOT speaking up in a public forum such as this meeting.

Also, lets not forget that Jesus said many would come prophesying in His name. Muhammad tries to use Jesus' name to validate his own claim as a prophet. This is clear testimony that muhammad is another false prophet. Also lets not forget that he denied the historical proof of the Crucifixion. This man is clearly a liar.

Muslim's do your homework before you start preaching about muhammad. All the True Scripture's show that The Messiah had to die! To deny this is to deny the 30 odd prophets of the old Testament. You can not agree with the truth of their testimony and at the same time disagree with it. As for the lost house of Israel, they are blinded for a moment and at the time God has set shall repent and come to the Lord. All Israel shall be saved. As it is written "the building block the builders rejected has become the cornerstone, this is the Lord's doing and it is marvelous to our eyes."
Zechariah 12 reveals how this will take place as do many other scriptures.

Repent O' unbelievers! Repent from your wicked and worldly ways and seek The Lord Jesus and you shall find rest.

First and foremost. Christians and muslims do not worship the same God. The God of the Christians is YHWH. The god of the muslim's is called allah. God tells us in Exodus that YHWH is His name forever. Also John has this to say to any one who denies the divinity of Jesus The Messiah

"Everyone who does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is an antichrist"

Two strikes for muhammad, He denies that The Word became flesh and He attempts to say that Our God has changed His name the very name His said is His name forever. How could these be the same person. With all Scripture pointing to Jesus as Messiah and no witness to muhammad it seems he is just another false prophet, like the prophet of the mormon's.

The Fact that christians would attempt to do something like this is shocking. How is Christ being preached here.
