Participants march during a parade where groups of Christians from various countries show their support for Israel in Jerusalem, Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008. Israelis traditionally hold a march during Sukkot holiday which commemorates the 40-year desert trek of the biblical Israelites after their exodus from Egypt.

The annual parade to mark the week-long holiday of Sukkot, or Feast of the Tabernacles, was the latest display of the growing alliance between evangelical Christians and the Jewish state.

The International Christian Embassy of Jerusalem, a global organization that promotes ties between Israel and the world's Christian communities, sponsored the event in which 3,000 people from nearly 100 countries participated.

Christian Zionists are among the staunchest supporters of Israel, providing generous financial help and political backing. But some dovish Israelis are uncomfortable with the warm ties with evangelists because of their support for West Bank Jewish settlements and criticism of peace efforts with the Palestinians.

Israelis are also wary of what they see as the source of the unbridled support — a belief by some evangelical groups in a final, apocalyptic battle between good and evil, in which Jesus returns and Jews either accept Christianity or perish.

Pilgrims from Brazil were among the most enthusiastic marchers, carrying drums and dancing. "We love you, Israel!" they cheered, and Israelis lining the street shouted back "Shalom!"

Claire Perry from Mechanicsville, Va. was part of the American delegation. Wearing a T-shirt with the American and Israeli flags on front and "Bless Israel Team" on the back, she said she was came to bless Israel and deliver humanitarian aid supplies. She said she felt "obligated to Israel for being able to share its salvation."

The march was part of a week of activities coinciding with Sukkot, which commemorates the 40-year desert trek of the biblical Israelites after their exodus from Egypt. The holiday began Monday and ends Oct. 21.

    Talmid,

Thanks for your responses. Having been to the Holy Land many times, I do understand our role as Christians to defend the whole land of Israel and her people. That is basic Bible study. I also understand, that not all Palestinians are Muslims. There are many Christians who are mistreated by the Israelis. I also realize this is to be expected.

What I am asking is, that we must also help fellow Christians financially in that area. If you've ever been to this area you would agree with me that they desperately need our help to survive, and not just to live. A Group of churches in my area, sponsored a street in Jerusalem where we subsidize Christian families to live in a group of condos where there are business run by Christians to support fellow christians with a security team that protects fellow Christians. We need this money and more to go to the Christians who still worship in these sacred sites. We don't want the Jews turning our houses of worship into Museums. Also, the Isrealis unfairly tax our houses of worship too, but that's another issue.

Also, just to clarify, we also are obligated to share the gospel to the Palestinians and the rest of the Muslim world. But the gospel is to the Jew first and then to the Gentile, as the NT made it clear. We don't support the government of Israel but her peoples' right to live in peace, in their land. Won't you ask the same for yourself? It's true that there is discrimination from some Jews toward believers in Israel, but didn't Jesus foretells us that we'd be persecuted as we tried to share His gospel with the world? Being a Christian means also being the object of persecution, if you don't think that to be true, here is a sample:
2 Ti 3:12, Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution
Ac 14:22, "Through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God."
2 Co 1:27, but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong

Dear MSNCHRIS70, as Christians we support Israel on the fact that we've been partakers of their spiritual blessings and covenant; we support their God-given right to the land, the whole land of Israel. For that is theirs by divine enactment.
Ro 15:27, ...For if the Gentiles have shared in their spiritual things, they are INDEBTED to minister to them also in material things (including the land).
**perhaps you might want to forego watching MSNBC and gain more biblical insight, Gob bless! **

I support Israel too, but I do not support their policies against Palestinian CHRISTIANS!

These Christian Zionists who are mostly Evangelicals are staunch supporters of Israel, and yet many seem blind to the fact that Christians in Israel are segregated and mistreated. The Catholics, Orthodox, Coptics, Oriental Orthodox and some Protestant Churches like the Anglicans and Lutherans have all been heavilly persecuted by Isreal.
Maybe these Evangelicals could send a portion of all that money they send to the Jews, to some of the Christians who are there and have been there for 2000 years. If the Christians don't get some financial support, then who will be there to safeguard the HOLIESTS sites in Christendom???

    Help your Christians FIRST!
