Pro-Football Stars Featured in New Bible Product

By Aaron J. Leichman|Christian Post Reporter

A new football-themed Scripture product has been released in time for what is expected to be among the most-watched U.S. television broadcasts of the year if not the most-watched.

As sports fans prepare for the fast-approaching Super Bowl, International Bible Society (IBS) Publishing is announcing the release of its football-themed "Path to Victory" New Testament featuring the testimonies of football greats including recently retired Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy and Super Bowl-bound quarterback Kurt Warner of the Arizona Cardinals, whose team will face off against the Pittsburgh Steelers for the NFL championship game on Feb. 1.

“As millions of people watch the Super Bowl, we hope they can find strength and hope in the stories of their favorite players, but more importantly, in the message of Jesus Christ," said IBS Publishing Director Glenn Paauw in an announcement Wednesday.

The football edition of “Path to Victory,” one of six sports-themed outreach products, combines the Today's New International Version (TNIV) Bible translation with 32 pages of full-color inserts and first-person stories of professional football players testifying to the power of Scripture to bring life change.

In addition to Dungy and Warner, the new sports-themed product includes the testimonies of Minnesota Vikings safety Michael Boulware, Atlanta Falcons placekicker Jason Elam, former Carolina Panthers defensive back Mike Minter, and Indiana Colts punter Hunter Smith.

"Following Christ faithfully in the world of professional sports is a challenge," said Paauw, whose company serves as the outreach Bible publishing arm of IBS-STL Global, one of the largest Bible and Christian literature ministries in the world. "These athletes share their stories in order to help others face the challenges of their world with the same power of the Bible.”

Other sports-themed versions produced by IBS Publishing include baseball, women athletes, and multi-sports. New Testaments for fans of basketball, NASCAR, and action sports are scheduled for release in March 2009.

blacksho, I know a number of people are not comfortable with the TNIV with regards to it's use of politically correct terms.

The TNIV is written for elementary-middle school kids. It is a bit much to expect kids that age to read the 1611 Authorized Version.
As long as the Gospel is of Christ, and Him crucified, "All scripture is useful."

1 Cor 9:22 "I have become all things to all [men], that I might by all means save some."

What I find even more disturbing is a growing attitude in the American Christian community that some how associates "making a profit" with something evil. Paul ran into this attitude in certain areas, and very deliberate in how he obtained finances to continue his ministry. This is how we get the term "tent making" ministry.

He also was careful to declare that the workman was worthy of his hire, and not to muzzle the ox.

Let's face it, ministry costs, and those that work at ministry and outreach, even this web site, deserve to be able to earn a living off of what they give produce.

isnt anything that aids in exposing more people to the word of God a good thing? seems to me prophet that you may be missing the main point of the production of this work!!

Will it ever end? Marketing ploys to get more money. Keep coming up with "new study" Bibles that are "supposed to be easier" to read, when in fact they are just watering down the truth.

It was a balmy California evening. I had gone for a jog before I was to speak at a leadership conference. I still can't recall how I got there, but I found myself sitting on a curb
