Pope to Muslims: True Religion Rejects Violence

By Ethan Cole|Christian Post Reporter

Pope Benedict XVI told Muslim leaders in Cameroon Thursday that true religion rejects violence.

In a closed-door meeting with 22 representatives of Cameroon’s Muslim community, Benedict said religion is the basis of human civilization, according to The Associated Press.

"Genuine religion ... stands at the base of any authentically human culture," he said. "It rejects all forms of violence and totalitarianism: not only on principles of faith but also of right reason."

He then urged Catholic and Muslims to work together “to build a civilization of love.”

Muslims make up about 22 percent of Cameroon’s population, while Roman Catholics comprise 27 percent of the Western African country’s people. Protestants account for 18 percent and animists make up about 27 percent of the country’s population.

Benedict lifted up Cameroon as a model of how Christians and Muslims can co-exist peacefully, praising it as “a beacon to other African nations.”

To the northwest, neighboring Nigeria has suffered from sectarian violence between Muslims and Christians. The country is nearly split evenly between a Muslim north and a Christian south with members of one religious group living as minorities where the other religion is dominant.

The pope expressed hope that Cameroon can show the “enormous potential of an inter-religious commitment to peace, justice and the common good” to other countries.

During his message to the crowd of 40,000 at a stadium in the capital of Yaounde, Benedict also offered comfort to child soldiers saying, “God loves you, he has not forgotten you.”

Earlier this week, Benedict told reporters aboard the papal plane heading to Cameron that distributing condoms is not the answer to fighting against HIV and AIDS. Instead, the Vatican encourages sexual abstinence to fight against the disease.

His comment, the first time he has explicitly spoken about condom use, has drawn criticism from France, Germany and the United Nations.

Benedict will fly to Angola on Friday for the second and final destination of his Africa tour.

The only way peace will be achieved in the Middle East is for the Muslim people to be delivered (born again in the Spirit) unto Jesus, the Christ. There have been more Muslims come to Christ in the last 9 years than there were from the time of Christ until 9 years ago!

Muslims are born into terror, raised in terror and live in terror. It is constant for them. For it to be discovered that they even "THINK" of Christ, they risk being killed, them and their families. They literally risk their lives if the come to Christ. THAT'S what I call a true conversion.

There are men and women that have given up every normal aspect of their lives to take the Gospel to the Muslim people, round the clock, and around the world. Many Muslims that come to Christ spend the rest of their lives, sacrificing in the same way.

Isn't it something to think on, that while America is trying to kick God out, that Christ is being taken in on a record scale in the Middle East?

May God bless and protect ALL of these people mentally, physically and spiritually all the days of their lives. God will not leave ONE of His children behind.

Pope Benedict XVI is sending a message that violence in any form is null and void. I say Amen to it.

How the same message of Pope Benedict XVI does not reach to Zionists in israel who have been using violence to occupy lands from the Palestinians. At a recent Israeli violence, 1400 civilians died bleeding and hungry. The embargo often criminally defended makes civilians desperate for normal living in Gaza. Pope Benedict XVI has not looked in to such sufferings.

Hamas; another party to the violence, did not relaize how much damage they cause to Palestinians in Gaza. Fortunately, they have 3 : 1400 capability when it comes to violence against Israel. Pope Benedict XVI must concentrate his efforts to bring a permanent peace in Middle East.

Cameroon is an isle of peace in Africa. Talking peace in their not so important as talking peace in the heart of Israel where Torah is violated day and night.

All we can do is reach out to our Muslim brothers and sisters and invite them to experience the love of Jesus that we all enjoy. Lord Jesus, call your people home. Amen.
