Pro-Lifers Want Sebelius' 'True' Abortion Record Revealed

By Audrey Barrick|Christian Post Reporter

Confirmation hearings for Health and Human Services Secretary nominee Kathleen Sebelius opened on Tuesday much to the disappointment of pro-lifers who want the Kansas governor's abortion record spotlighted.

Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee Chairman Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., right, greets Health and Human Services Secretary-designate, Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, second from left, and former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole, center, on Capitol Hill in Washington, Tuesday, March 31, 2009, before the start of Sebelius' confirmation hearing before the committee.

In a hearing chaired by Sen. Ted Kennedy, Sebelius pledged to make healthcare reform her mission. That same day, she revealed that she recently paid more than $7,000 in back taxes.

Little was revealed about her abortion stance.

"Americans – and women in particular – deserve answers about Governor Sebelius' ties to the abortion industry," said Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of Susan B. Anthony List, a pro-life network. "As Secretary of Health and Human Services, Sebelius will wield great influence with regard to national abortion policy, particularly the use of taxpayer funds to provide and promote abortion on-demand."

Since President Barack Obama announced Sebelius as an HHS Secretary nominee, pro-life groups have vowed to block her confirmation.

Over 16,000 Susan B. Anthony List activists have sent letters to their Senators, urging opposition to the Sebelius nomination

More recently, some 30 pro-family leaders, including Family Research Council Action's Tom McClusky and Focus on the Family's Tom Minnery, sent a letter to the U.S. Senate on Monday, citing her pro-abortion actions and her failure to make significant improvements in health coverage or costs as governor.

They listed her vote to "weaken or eliminate" such "modest measures" as unborn victims, parental notification and informed consent, her decisions to cut state funding for abortion alternatives and veto a bill that would strengthen late-term abortion law, and her personal ties to notorious late-term abortionist George Tiller.

"She also has established a record in Kansas of refusing to work with the state legislature in making real reform possible, a trait it is expected she will bring to Washington," the letter also states.

"It is for these reasons we ask you to oppose the nomination of Governor Sebelius as HHS Secretary."

In a rare turn of events last week, Sebelius signed a bill requiring that women seeking abortions in Kansas be allowed to see ultrasound images of their fetus or hear the fetus's heartbeat before going through with the procedure.

The move, however, did not convince pro-lifers that the Catholic governor had "a sudden change of heart," as Family Research Council president Tony Perkins said.

Perkins believes Sebelius was being "politically pragmatic" at a time when she's under a national microscope.

"The reality in Kansas is that Mrs. Sebelius, whose pro-abortion record is unprecedented among sitting governors, was facing a veto-proof legislature," Perkins said Tuesday.

Dannenfelser of Susan B. Anthony List expressed her appreciation for Sebelius' recent action but said "it will not erase her long history of support for the abortion industry."

Pro-life groups are urging Senators to press Sebelius with tough questions this week to reveal her "true positions."

Sebelius is scheduled to appear Thursday before the Senate Finance Committee, which will vote on sending her nomination to the full Senate.

Chas I agree with you that there is something flawed with their mindsets (the list) and I wish they wouldn't throw out they are Catholic because they are not following the path that our church has set forth in front of us, and to be Catholic is to follow the Path the Scripture and the Church has established which do not contradict each other. It is very disappointing to share the faith with them and see them knowingly defy the word of GOD and the Church teachings which are in accordance with his WORD. I think definitely they should firmly refuse giving communion to them as long as they go against the word of GOD. However if anything we need them to start spending more time at church and they need to get more involved with the scripture so that they may be saved and understand what God is asking of them. Let us pray for them that they seek and find the truth and put it beyond their own desires.

Let us remember and hopefully any Catholic or Christian who defies God and attempts to make others believe they are not sinning sees these words.

JOHN 1:8-10 = If we say "we are without sin", we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we acknowlege our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from every wrongdoing. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

United States of America is a supposedly secular state but very religious credentials of Barack Obama were questioned whether he is a secret Muslim or a full fledged Christian. To me, I do not care about his religious background as long as he is not a communist. I have seen in him a great American who is wise and accepted by most Americans.

If he has mainstream Christians, minority Jews and immigrant Hindus in administration then why not select few qualified American Muslims eligible for the job. Mind you, there credentials would be there qualification rather than being Muslim. An undeclared but wisely understood representation from diverse religious groups in American administration would give a sense of belonging for all Americans which will also include culturally diverse people.

United States of America is great and only in this country great examples are set. Barack Obama is a miracle which could only happen in America otherwise no country could present such an example and of its kind.

Isn't nominating her for Health and Human Services Director a lot like nominating Adolph Hilter for Jewish Affairs?

They both achieve the same results: Death.

    Dear Pope Benedict XVI,

PLEASE EXCOMMUNICATE SEBELIUS, KERRY, GIULANI, KENNEDY, PELOSI, MURRAY, and BIDEN!!!! Lame people who call themselves Catholics still.

YOU CANNOT BE CATHOLIC AND BE PRO-CHOICE! Stoping them from receiving communion is a good start, but these political types only respond to power. The Pope did a great job with Pelosi when she came to Rome; no photo op and spent 15 minutes telling her that her voting record puts her salvation at risk.

IF YOU VOTE TO ENCOURAGE MURDER OF INNOCENT HUMAN BEINGS, then you are an accomplice to breaking "Thou Shall not KILL" commandment. You are a cooperator in EVIL. YOU WILL BE SEVERELY JUDGED! You demoncrats will say "Lord Lord" and He will say He never knew you. Repent!

The pattern is to lie, get into office and then mess over anything Biblical in society. Sebelius will be a perfect fit for Obama and the rest of his group who have all lied about their positions to get elected and/or approved.
