U.K. Christians Oppose New Sex Ed Proposals

By Anne Thomas|Christian Today Reporter

LONDON – Christians have spoken out against government plans to introduce new rules that would require schools to teach 11-year-old students about homosexuality and civil partnerships during compulsory sex education classes.

Until now, school headteachers have had the option of not teaching about homosexuality and civil partnerships, but if adopted, the rules will apply to all secondary schools, with no opt-out for religious schools.

A formal consultation needs to be completed before the rules can come into effect, but once they do, the new will apply in primary and secondary schools starting from the 2011-12 academic year. Along with sex education, classes on the dangers of alcohol, drugs and on financial education will be compulsory.

Under the proposals, 4- and 5-year-olds will be taught about different body parts and lessons on sex will be taught at the age of nine.

Between the ages of 11 and 14, students will be taught about contraception, pregnancy, sexual activity and sexually transmitted diseases.

The guidelines also state that “students should address the role and benefits of marriage and civil partnerships in stable relationships and family life.”

Students will also be required to learn about “different types of relationships,” including homosexual ones.

Simon Calvert of the Christian Institute said promoting homosexuality could cause harm to children who may experiment with what they are taught.

"What we don’t want to see is vulnerable young people being exploited by outside groups which want to normalize homosexuality," he said, as reported by the Daily Mail.

“If this guidance purports to force faith schools to teach things which go against their faith then it is profoundly illiberal and must be resisted at all costs," he added. "A lot of people who are fully signed up to the gay rights agenda are beginning to think ‘I didn’t vote for this’. They don’t support forcing religious bodies to espouse views of sexual ethics that conflict with their religion."

The proposed rules also state that while religious schools will be required to teach lessons that may be against their beliefs, they will also be allowed to teach their faith position on the issue.

Heres an interesting link to the UK Guardian. It is about the above but makes it quite clear that whilst within the curriculem homosexual relationships etc..will be acknowledged, faith schools (of which I and my children went to)will still be able to teach against them. Why does CP not make this clear, the article above gives the impression this will not be allowed. This in quite misleading, not delibrate I am sure.

bryan, nice thought, but that will never happen unless all the people of the world come to repent of their sin and turn to God by putting their complete faith/trust in the person and finished work of Christ alone. God has done all He can and will do to save us when He allowed His Son to go to the Cross for our sins and Christ said the I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life and no one can come to the Father but through Me, He is a person's only hope of salvation.

    DP,

Do you remember that Jesus said something along the lines of "to love someone who does things the way you like it is not as worthy as to love someone who does things which you dislike".

We all agree that God loves us no matter how much we have sinned. But since God preached the above, wouldn't it be true that God's love for us would not change regardless of what we do?

It's like his love for us is constant regardless, wouldn't he prefer that we be happy than be sad? And if I can attain true happiness by loving a man, and this act, unlike murdering does not make someone less happy, wouldn't he be happy for me too?

It's kind of senseless to me that God set forth rules that he would like us to follow against our own wishes and desires when he said that the most noble kind of love is the love we have for people who don't do as we wish.

  • Tue Apr 28, 2009 8:31 pm Agree: 0   Disagree: 1

bryan, God wishes that all would turn from their sin and follow Him and accept His ways as better for our lives. He wishes all that have come to Him to teach Him and His ways as He has established to everyone everywhere. He wishes everyone everywhere would live in unity to His ways as He has established. God does not want us worshipping and accepting Him in many different ways ~ only one ~ His way. You're right He loves us all and is patiently waiting for all to accept Him as He has asked.

"bryan, the time is also getting closer for Armageddon and the Great White Throne Judgement!!"

    Believer,

Imagine with me, a world where human beings understand, respect, and love each other.

A world where we care more for each other. A world where everybody would love their friends, and love their enemies more, but there would be no enemies left because nobody wishes to fight. A world where Christians and Muslims come together and practice their religion freely with a mentality that goes "you have your God, I have my God; we would never know whose God is right, might as well be friends on earth, and whatever happens after, lets not affect our friendship at present".

Such is a world I foresee in the future, and such is a world I believe God wants for human beings.

However, if you're right, then my ideal world to you is but a world of perversion. And that God would punish this world. Then I can say comfortably that in my ideal world, if God wishes to punish us, all human beings would, hand-in-hand, utter "go ahead, we have no regrets, our love for each other is eternal, no God can take that away. Send us to hell, we do not care, for together, even the worst torture, we will bear. But strip us from this love for each other, and even in heaven, we will attain no peace of mind."

We all agree that God loves us. But I would argue that God loves us equally as he loves himself. And like all parents who love their child as much as they love themselves, whatever makes the child happy, makes them happy. Why would God punish a world, where everybody care for each other, and everybody is happy with one another?

Haha.. This is going at a pace faster than I thought.

A quote from somewhere, "Time is on same-sex marriage's side."

The upcoming generations who would be more worldly-wise would seem to perceive the notion of homosexuality a lot more differently than those who condemn it strictly.
