TechnoratiLONDON – A global, non-stop prayer movement is mobilizing Christians to pray for Europe in the wake of the scandals hitting the financial and political sectors.
Two of the 24-7 Prayer movement’s pioneers, Pete Greig and Punk Monk author Andy Freeman have teamed up to produce daily video podcasts addressing the challenges and opportunities facing Christians today.
In the first video, released this past weekend, Greig encouraged Christians to help create a viral phenomenon to get hundreds of thousands praying for Europe by sharing the videos on their Facebook or Twitter pages.
He said the “exposure of corruption and greed” among bankers and members of parliament, Obama’s speech to Muslims, and the European elections had brought the continent to a “tipping point” that could affect lives for many years to come.
“You don’t have to be the brain of Britain to see that something is happening right now. We need to wake up and realize there’s more to life than Starbucks, iPhones and all the rest of it,” he said.
“There are destinies being shaped right now and now is the time to pray so let’s have eyes to see the signs of the time. Let’s realize what’s going on. Let’s pray for all that’s going on politically and financially, and most of all let’s pray for the church, which is the primary agency of the Kingdom of God,” he added.
Freeman, meanwhile, directed Christians to the Apostle Paul’s instruction to Timothy to pray for political leaders. He encouraged more Christians to get involved with politics, saying they have a “responsibility to be involved and take the people who are being elected seriously.”
The video podcasts will be posted daily on 24-7 Prayer’s YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/user/247Pray.
Since its launch in 1999 among the young people of Revelation Church in Chichester, England, 24-7 Prayer has spread into more than ninety nations around the world. The movement is currently based out of London.
