T.D. Jakes Thankful After Returning from 'Brink of Eternity'

By Eric Young|Christian Post Reporter

Since his brush with death last week, megachurch pastor T.D. Jakes says he has experienced an outpouring of love and support greater than any he’s seen in all his years serving as a pastor.

“So many statements of love and concern for my well-being and the well-being of my family left an indelible impression on my soul,” Jakes reported Tuesday – a little more than a week after a gas explosion in the sun room of his home demolished that entire portion of his house.

The Pentecostal preacher said had God not led him to cancel a meeting the morning of the explosion, on June 7, he would have been in the devastated room at exactly the time of the blast.

“Just think, had my family and I died in that explosion, I would have died not knowing the existence, the degree or the intensity of the love that I witnessed Sunday (June 14),” added Jakes, who ministers to the 30,000-member The Potter’s House in Dallas.

He called June 7 the day that he “stood on the brink of eternity and dangled on the cliff of destruction.”

According to Lt. Kent Worley of the local fire department, investigators have ruled last week’s explosion to be accidental. Worley told the Dallas Morning News that there was no fire because the blast had consumed all available gas in Jakes’ sunroom, which had a gas-fired pool heater and a large gas-fired barbecue grill.

Aside from the affected area, the rest of the 15,000-square-foot home remained intact.

Next week, Jakes will be holding his popular Manpower event at his church and be joined by fellow “Prosperity” speakers Eddie Long and Myles Monroe as well as music artists Marvin Sap and Jesse Campbell.

On July 5, Jakes will be honored in New Orleans at the Essence Music Festival All-Star Tribute.

Jakes has been twice featured on the cover of Time magazine as "America's Best Preacher" and as one of this nation's "25 most influential evangelicals."

Dear Steve, there are many who are not really Bible Believing Christians. They will be numbered among Foolish Ones who will be protesting reasons why they should have been taken with Wise Ones. When they wake up from their sleep it will be too late. Then they will make decision to be a Tribulation Saint, if they are not killed when World Chaos reigns. So many in churches in Western Nations compared to other nations. Because of persecution & tribulations coming on us now before Jesus comes, there will only be a Faithful Remnant who will stand fast for our LORD. Just remember Jesus Christ is Coming SOON.

the deception in america is way bigger than most think..
    in the congregation
in the many different brand name and no name churches..
each with a doctrine to fit their sin...
the leaders of the church rule like kings and live in luxury while the people paying the bills barely make ends meet
we are over run with false prophets and bogus teachings.
    the homeless and the abandon
    the battered sheep
    the spiritually molested
    the unlearned
    and the unclean
    many will called
    but
    few will be chosen.
when you are rejected while speaking the word of God
    you know you are chosen
if you are comfortable and everything is going smooth
then you must not be making any demons or devils nervous
if you are sure you are not deceived....
that is sure indication that you probably are

When will Christians expect their ministers their Pastors to live as an example for their congreations? A 15,000 sq foot house is totally uncalled for! These health and wealth preachers live way beyond the avrage man supporting this kind of excessive grandure. Fren Price, Paul and Jan of TBN, and Kenneth Copeland are just like T. J. Jakes. By the way Jakes does not belive in the Trinity, now that's unbiblical, and so is the way he flaunts his wealth.

To the gentleman who posted about the Holy Ghost, Oneness Pentecostals do not deny any part of the manifestations of a one true God. The Father is a spirit, Holy Ghost is in essence the Father of the man Christ Jesus who is the image of an invisible God. Irregardless of your belief in the Godhead the only way is to be Jesus Only we can not know the Father but only through Jesus Christ. When is the church going to quit argueing and come together for an out pouring of the Holy Ghost! It will all be settled when we get to heaven, and it will not matter if there is 3 gods or a million as long as Jesus is there.
Let us pray for an outpouring of his spirit on all flesh! Those caught up in critizing someone else will be left out as the church was in Jesus's day!

Nowhere in this article did Jakes thank God or Christ for saving his life!! Jakes didn't mention Holy Ghost, as those Oneness people don't believe in our Trinity!

Also telling he spoke of the "cliff of destruction"!!

I wonder how big King David's mansion was. And he was a man after God's own heart.

Yep...that whole being reminded that you don't control your own life thing can be a real wake up call. It will be interesting to see what comes out of it.

Stood on the brink of eternity?
Yes, all believers are that way.

Dangled on the cliff of destruction?
I assume that he means the destruction of his mortal body. Certainly he wouldn't mean the kind of eternity he would have gone to.

When God says come home, you go home. But God does tend to remind us at times of who we really are.
