Matt Brouwer's latest CD "Where's Our Revolution" was selected by Universal Music Group to get a souped-up deluxe edition re-release, and will hit bookstore shelves on Aug. 25. Right now, here's part two of my interview with Matt.

DT: What were your overarching themes when creating "Where's Our Revolution"?

MB: I wonder what our generation will be known for when people look back & write the history books. It seems like a lot of us in North American culture are looking for a voice; trying to find out what it is we're about. I think we are searching for some sort of a revolutionary concept. The catalyst for this conversation & for a lot of these songs began when I started traveling outside of North America working in a village in Guatemala. The people were so simple - they just loved life, they had such a joy, & every day was lived to the fullest. I've gone down there 5 times now & it's jolted me out of the reality I was living. [I started asking] questions like, "Why am I here?" and "If I'm created by God, is there purpose in our existence." In searching for those answers, I've tried to deconstruct all of the noise of the things I've heard all of my life in the media or in church, & just tried to get to the truth for myself & find out "God, can you teach me something that's real?"

DT: Are you working on any new music for the future?

MB: Actually I just got an iPhone which is really cliché for a musician . There's this great application, it's a little recorder thing, and so I have been getting ideas a lot lately. It's great, hit record and you've got all kinds of stuff archived. So I've been working on 4 or 5 different ideas right now and I'm really excited to get back into the studio within the next 12 months.

DT: Have you thought about the big picture - the legacy you want to leave behind?

MB: Life is short, no one knows how long you have. It's like the collaboration of all the different seasons & you just have no idea how that's going to affect people. But you just try to be as honest & faithful with everyday & every moment that you've been given. ...So I'm just trying to be open - let things go - because letting God take my life & lead me is going to be a lot better than anything I could come up with.
