Tiller Murder Suspect Justifies Killing

By Nathan Black|Christian Post Reporter

The anti-abortion activist charged with killing late-term abortion doctor George Tiller has been communicating from his jail cell that such killings are justifiable.

In this Tuesday, June 2, 2009 file photo, John Pride, of Wichita, Kan., walks past a memorial outside Women's Health Care Services in Wichita, Kan. The family of slain abortion provider George Tiller said Tuesday, June 9, 2009 that Tiller's Wichita clinic will be 'permanently closed.'

According to The Associated Press, Scott Roeder has been sending anti-abortion pamphlets that laud Paul Hill, who was executed in 2003 for murdering an abortion provider, as an American hero.

The pamphlets include Hill's writings which justify the killing of abortion providers.

One of the pamphlets was sent to Linda Wolfe, a pro-life advocate who told Roeder in an earlier letter that she no longer believes killing abortion providers was justifiable. She tossed the pamphlet, as reported by AP.

Roeder is currently at Sedgwick County jail, charged with first-degree murder and aggravated assault. Tiller was shot dead on May 31 at his church in Wichita, Kansas.

Christians and pro-life groups across the country condemned the murder of the notorious late-term abortion practitioner. While Tiller was a target of many pro-life protests, most groups do not justify his killing and have distanced themselves from Roeder.

"While his (Tiller's) actions were inexcusable, they certainly didn’t warrant the execution of vigilante justice doled out by a misguided crusader for the unborn," said Dr. Tony Beam, director of the Christian Worldview Center in Tigerville, S.C.

Last month, pro-lifers held a series of prayers for healing in Wichita. They prayed for the Tiller family as well as for the thousands of babies who were aborted at Tiller's clinic. Their petition to God was to end the violence inside and outside abortion clinics.

believer, that is so good to know. I really advocate peaceful resolution to problems over violence any day. If people's minds and hearts can be changed, the demand for such things like abortion will no longer be there, and it is simple economics after that. No demand, no product.

ggirl, good post and indeed many Christian organizations are establishing Crisis Pregnancy Care Centers which do exactly what you encourage with regards to adoption and assistance for the Moms and their babies. We even have one here in Pikeville, Kentucky that God is powerfully using to make a difference in the lives of these folks.

I don't support abortion, but I also don't support vigilantism / murdering doctors. I believe education not fear or force is THE best way to eventually eliminate abortions as an option. When it is easier to give for adoption or get assistance or support then abortion will fall to the way side. But then, I also understand the mentality that fighting abortionists and pro-choice is seen as a war, and in war, people get hurt. It's just in my humble opinion, war never really solves anything.

al, you need to realize that abortionists and their pro-murder supporters are practicing and advocating the cold blooded murder of unborn babies every time they abort or support the abortion of an unborn child.

Since God controls all things, this means that evil is also under the control of God. We see this explicitly in many verses. Psalm 105:25, speaking of the Egyptians in the time period of the Exodus, says that God "turned their heart to hate His people, to deal craftily with His servants." In Isaiah 10:5-15 we read of how God used the wicked nation of Assyria to carry out his judgements upon Israel. In Deuteronomy 2:30 we read "But Sihon king of Heshbon was not willing for us to pass through his land; for the Lord your God hardened his spirit and made his heart obstinate, in order to deliver him into your hand, as he is today." The crucifixion of Christ, which was the most sinful human act in all of history, was said to have been according to "the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God" even though it was "by the hands of godless men" that Christ was put to death (Acts 2:23; see also 4:28).

The sovereignty of God over all things, including evil, is important for many reasons. This truth gives us peace of mind and security in a hostile world, for we know that our good God is sovereign over it all and is working for good. When bad things come to us through the sins of others, we can take comfort that God is working it all for our good. This truth also gives us wonder and awe as we marvel at how God can even use His enemies to accomplish His plans.

Christian leaders need to publicly condemn murderers, especially when they hijack our Christian beliefs in the name of vigilante justice. We need to differentiate ourselves from hindu and muslim hardliner groups. CHRIST JESUS should be the only example we follow.

THank GOd He is sovereign!! All things are under His rule and control, and that nothing happens in this Universe without His direction or permission. He is a God Who works, not just some things, but all things after the counsel of His own will (see Eph. 1:11). God's purpose is all- inclusive and is never thwarted (see Isa. 46:11). Nothing Takes Him by Surprise.

God is sovereign over the entire universe: Ps 103:19; Rom 8:28; Eph 1:11

God is sovereign over all of nature: Ps 135:6-7; Mt 5:45; 6:25-30

God is sovereign over angels & Satan: Ps 103:20-21; Job 1:12

God is sovereign over nations: Ps 47:7-9; Dan 2:20-21; 4:34-35

God is sovereign over human beings: 1 Sam 2:6-7; Gal 1:15-16

God is sovereign over animals: Ps 104:21-30; 1 Ki 17:4-6

God is sovereign over "accidents": Pr 16:33; Jon 1:7; Mt 10:29

God is sovereign over free acts of men: Ex 3:21; 12:25-36; Ez 7:27

God is sovereign over sinful acts of men and Satan: 2 Sam 24:1; 1 Chr 21:1; Gen 45:5; 50:20

"GOd expects His people to abide in His laws for right conduct and right living. TOday, gOvernments exist to uphold these moral laws."

Some governments do exist to that are based upon and uphold what they see as "gods moral law." You wouldn't want to live there, though, 'cause the moral laws they uphold are based upon a different moral code then yours, for the most part.

The reason Madison, Jefferson and others kept god out of our government is because of the problems inherent in choosing WHICH particular flavor of god to base the laws upon. If you think this is not true, take a look at the patchwork of religious laws that existed in the colonies prior to independence, and even afterword. There were ten colonies with state religions, and between them there were six religions represented, all with different rules.

Besides, Madison realized that morality doesn't come from god or religion anyway. Do you really think the man who wrote to William Bradford in 1774: "Religious bondage shackles and debilitates the mind and unfits it for every noble enterprise, every expanded prospect" would frame a theocracy?

Sorry, but our laws do not exist to codify your moral code, or mine either. Thank goodness!

    redward,

THat was how God dealt with His chosen people in the OT who rebelled against Him. God appointed godly men/woman as judges to implement GOd's holy justice.

GOd expects His people to abide in His laws for right conduct and right living. TOday, gOvernments exist to uphold these moral laws. When they don't GOd will intervene. His people do not take it into their own hands . How? GOd only knows. "vengeance is Mine" says the Lord.

    GOd is sovereign.

It does not promote "individual vigilantism". WHat the Word of GOd teaches is that when the government is not fulfilling their GOd-ordained obligation, christians must participate in legislating GOd's moral principles back into the governing body lawfully, "avenging not themselves" but leaving the outcome in the hands of GOd who says "vengeance is Mine".

The "holy" bible is NOT and never has been the law in the United States! Frankly, who gives a darn what it says? Nothing can change the FACT that the killing of Dr. Tiller was cold-blooded murder perpetrated by a distressed individual acting in concert with what he believed to be "gods justice." If you believe what he did was right and correct, you also share in the moral responsibility for this crime.

We work within the system to bring about change in this country, we don't go around killing those who disagree with us to impose our own moral codes. Whether you like it or not, all the blastocysts, embryos and fetuses in the world don't add up to one single human being. That's not just my opinion, that's the law! If you don't like it, elect another conservative president to appoint another knuckle-dragger to reverse Roe. Otherwise, stick to your protests, vigils and marches.

That's all. It appears to me that you've got a problem with what the Bible says about crime and how it should be punished... I do indeed have a problem with what you and your holy book supposedly says about crime and punishment when it promotes vigilantes taking the law into their own hand becoming judge, jury and, in Tiller's case, executioner. You are incredibly naive (or blantantly dishonest) to think what you have written both justifies and encourages murder of those who do not subscribe to your moral and ethical codes. Frankly I see little difference between you and the Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Sikhs, pagans, and every other religious adherent that has killed in the name of their own divine truth. hide

Very often in the Bible, when Israel is under tyrannical rule, it was a single man (or woman) a "Judge" (hence the book's title, Judges) that rose up and did justice among the people, and then God granted deliverance from tyranny (deliverance from the "curses" of their transgression). This Judge was not democratically elected, he was not of the lineage of a monarch, - indeed, Gideon was of the least tribe and "the least in his father's house". They were just God's men who did right where there was wrong, who executed justice where there was injustice, in deference to God's law and in opposition to man's, and the mantle of authority was theirs. "

It appears to me that you've got a problem with what the Bible says about crime and how it should be punished, and favor a democratic consensus or or [sic] what the Supreme Court says or what is politically correct over the plain teaching of God's Word on the matter. When the Supreme Court contradicts the Supremest Court, whose side do you take? As I said, if you reject the authority of God All-mighty and His Word on criminal justice, you are left with humanism by default. If you think you have not rejected God's Word on this issue, but only my interpretation of it, I would appreciate an alternative, contextual explanation for the proof texts I have cited.

Deu 32:35 'Vengeance is Mine, and retribution, In due time their foot will slip; For the day of their calamity is near, And the impending things are hastening upon them.'

Rom 12:19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

Hbr 10:30 For we know Him who said, "VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY." And again, "THE LORD WILL JUDGE HIS PEOPLE."
    ------------------------------------------------------

"The principle of civil justice is reiterated in the NT, quite noticably only three verses after Rom.12:19. See chapter 13, verses 1-7, and see that rulers wield "not the sword in vain, for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil." Vengeance is the Lord's, and He delegates authority to exact that vengeance upon whomsoever He will! He endues that power to men, according to the Scriptures. Our leaders are not fulfilling their God-ordained (Rom.13:1-2) obligation to thrust the sword of justice into evildoers, and citizens, the constituents, the voters, the activists, the Christian church at large (half of those who get abortions are professing evangelical Christians) are passively inept, and therefore, we are under a curse and we deserve it. Jesus also affirmed the death penalty, specifically, in Matt.15:3-9, and indirectly in Matt. 5:17-19, and Matt. 23:2-3.
