Would Jesus Play The Beatles: Rock Band?

By Lane Palmer|Christian Post Guest Columnist

No seriously, would Jesus play The Beatles: Rock Band?

Tell me this question gets you thinking, or at least pondering this concept. As you know, this video game has taken the world by storm, outsold Guitar Hero 5, and thousands, if not millions, of teens are being introduced to the Beatles magic that stormed the world the first time nearly 50 years ago!

To recap, 4 mop-topped lads from Liverpool, England, put a little garage band together and within a few years, were the first group in history to play in sold-out stadiums around the world. John, Paul, George and Ringo became household names and to this day, we can see the continued ripple effects from the incredible splash The Beatles made when your parents were infants.

Yes, I think Jesus would play The Beatles: Rock Band and here’s why:

There was a wedding celebration in the village of Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there and Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the celebration. The wine supply ran out during the festivities, so Jesus’ mother told him, “They have no more wine.”

“Dear woman, that’s not our problem,” Jesus replied. “My time has not yet come.”

But his mother told the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”

Standing nearby were six stone water jars, used for Jewish ceremonial washing. Each could hold 20-30 gallons. Jesus told the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” When the jars had been filled, he said, “Now dip some out, and take it to the master of ceremonies.” So the servants followed his instructions.

When the master of ceremonies tasted the water that was now wine, not knowing where it had come from (though, of course, the servants knew), he called the bridegroom over. “A host always serves the best wine first,” he said. “Then, when everyone has had a lot to drink, he brings out the less expensive wine. But you have kept the best until now!”

This miraculous sign at Cana in Galilee was the first time Jesus revealed his glory. And his disciples believed in Him (John 2:1-11, NLT).

This was the first miracle Jesus performed and it revolved around keeping the party going. How? Well, wine in that day was symbolic of joy and celebration and if the groom’s after-wedding party ran dry, it was a serious offense - in fact the people could have had him arrested! Notice that Jesus not only attended the party, but He made sure the joy and celebration continued - which tells us several critical things about God’s one and only Son.

First, it is obvious that Jesus loves to connect with people. When He wasn’t preaching or teaching, He was hanging out at social events that seriously offended the stuffy stuck up religious folks. They weren’t mad because He went to parties; they were ticked because He had such a great time at them! Can’t you see Jesus and the disciples laughing it up over a video game if they had a 1st Century PS3? I sure can…only the lyrics then would have been “God loves you, yeah yeah yeah.”

You know what else? This account shows us that the reason Jesus went to parties and hung out with “sinners” was not to judge or condemn them - in fact, it was just the opposite. Jesus got involved in people’s lives so He could let them know there is a way to find true and lasting joy and celebration that isn’t found in a bed or a bottle. This kind is guilt- and consequence-free, and the freedom it brings turns the bitter waters of life into a spiritual wine that never runs out. Continue »

    THE SACRIFICE LAMB

    Verse 1:

Have you ever heard, Messiah has come,

It says in His word, to cleanse everyone,

Atonement He made, iniquity He bore,

That we can find life, with Him evermore.

    Chorus:

The Sacrifice Lamb, has been slain,

His blood on the altar a stain,

To wipe away guilt and pain,

    To bring hope eternal.

Salvation has come to the world,

God's only Son, to the world,

Jesus the one, for the world,

    Yeshua is He.

    Verse 2:

The prophets of old, speak much of Messiah,

His death is foretold, the purpose is clear,

Isaiah did say, 'twas for an atonement,

To give us a way, that leads not to death.

    Verse 3:

So brother of mine, look not to yourself,

For we are but one, we all need His help,

We've broken the law, but He paid our debt,

That we can find life, by Yeshua's death.

Wow, look at the Sadducees in these comments!

No, Jesus would NOT play this game. He'd be too busy playing bass for Doobie Brothers. And yes Rhi, Jesus would most def hang out with Steve Earle, being as in Steve Earle is one of the coolest dudes around.

Well, now that I think about it maybe Jesus would play this game. I mean they are the only band bigger than Him! haha

    tpique1, you are so right.

    Isaiah 53
1 Who has believed our message
and to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?

2 He grew up before him like a tender shoot,
and like a root out of dry ground.
He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him,
nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.

3 He was despised and rejected by men,
a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering.
Like one from whom men hide their faces
he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

4 Surely he took up our infirmities
    and carried our sorrows,
yet we considered him stricken by God,
    smitten by him, and afflicted.

5 But he was pierced for our transgressions,
    he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was upon him,
and by his wounds we are healed.

6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
    each of us has turned to his own way;
and the LORD has laid on him
    the iniquity of us all.

7 He was oppressed and afflicted,
    yet he did not open his mouth;
he was led like a lamb to the slaughter,
and as a sheep before her shearers is silent,
so he did not open his mouth.

8 By oppression and judgment he was taken away.
And who can speak of his descendants?
    For he was cut off from the land of the living;
for the transgression of my people he was stricken.

9 He was assigned a grave with the wicked,
and with the rich in his death,
though he had done no violence,
nor was any deceit in his mouth.

10 Yet it was the LORD's will to crush him and cause him to suffer,
and though the LORD makes [c] his life a guilt offering,
he will see his offspring and prolong his days,
and the will of the LORD will prosper in his hand.

11 After the suffering of his soul,
    he will see the light of life and be satisfied ;
by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many,
and he will bear their iniquities.

12 Therefore I will give him a portion among the great,
and he will divide the spoils with the strong,
because he poured out his life unto death,
and was numbered with the transgressors.
For he bore the sin of many,
and made intercession for the transgressors.

Give one single example of how Jesus cared about entertaining Himself?? He made it clear what His purpose for being here was all about - to die for the sins of mankind - and it wasn't to play some ridiculous video game and Christiantain Himself.

How dare you minimize Jesus' holiness and divinity by characterizing Him as some partying backslidder like yourself.

Folks, run from this kind of backslidden and unbiblical garbage! He's just another emergent church-type who superimposes culture on top of the Bible.

I would be willing to bet he's not even a Christian.

Kids might not be filled with awe at the mention of the Beatles, but they know who they are and many are fans. They recognize the incredible contribution to music those guys made and how they've been an influence on musicians to the present day. They can hear that a lot of the music still stands on it's own merit today, even if it is relegated to the moldy oldies category because of it's age. They're still quite relevant because they had a wide ranging musical talent that produced quality songs in many genres. And good rock never dies.

For those of us lucky enough to have been of age when the Beatles arrived, they're an indelible part of our musical upbringing and still stand head and shoulders above anyone who's come along since.

pepper, you were there? Wow, maybe I saw you.

I wonder what instrument Jesus would have played? Would he have insisted on being lead singer? Could he have held the band together?
I think this guy is a little out of touch. Kids don't have an awe filled attitude at the mention of the Beatles name.
Would Jesus play with the Jonas Brothers? I hope not. They are so lame.
Maybe Jesus could get a gig with the Kings of Leon. But I think he would have toured with Willie Nelson in that eco friendly bus or sat in with Steve Earle and James McMurtry.
What about a duet with Talor Swift?

"The Beatles brought a feeling of happiness and enjoyment to a world in need of an escape from the turbulent 1960s, " The Beatles helped cause the turbulance of the
60's, I know, I was there. ( Is Lane Palmer under 30?) They were pied pipers of
immorality. If you read a few biographies, about John Lennon especially, you would see
he did not live the life he sang about.
Jesus would sing songs that glorified His Father who sent Him.

What a silly article. Not to mention taking Gods name in vain.
Jesus was preparing to to be Lamb of God, taken to be
slaughtered for our sins. Please don't minimize His Name and life.
You are trying to stuff God in your version of a box.
    (btw, I love music)
