Bluetree Launches Charity with Ties to Hit Song

This year's bestselling new artist, Bluetree, launched a charity this week aimed at ending child sex exploitation.

The charity, StandOut International, is connected to the Ireland-based band’s hit song, “God of This City” – both of which were inspired by their trip to Pattaya, Thailand.

During the mission trip, Bluetree performed worship songs on stage at the Climax Bar, a club which doubles as a brothel in the Red Light district of the city. What the band saw at the club and in Pattaya inspired them to write “God of This City” and to help those exploited and without a voice.

“We created StandOut International to help end child sex exploitation on a global scale, while loving, educating and releasing those rescued into the fullness of life that God has for them,” said Bluetree deejay Pete Kernoghan, in a statement.

The band members said from the start they were not interested in writing feel-good worship songs that cause “a few goosebumps” during Sunday service but don’t inspire change and action once the service is over.

“We really want ‘God of this City’ to be more than a song that we just proclaim in the safety of our churches,” said Kernoghan. “We want to see the hope of the song worked out in the lives of millions of children who are exploited throughout the world today.”

Reports estimate that there are 12 to more than 30 million people affected by human trafficking in the world today, with half of all trafficking victims being children, according to the 2008 State Department Trafficking in Persons Report. Each year, 1.2 million children are trafficked for child labor, and another 1 million children are annually trafficked into the global sex trade, according to the 2006 International Labor Office report entitled, "End of Child Labor Within Reach."

StandOut International’s mission is to channel funds it receives to organizations working on the grounds helping children who are sexually exploited. It also wants to inspire people to pray, go on short-term mission trips and organize events to raise awareness about the issue.

“Let ‘God of this City’ inspire you into action,” Kernoghan said. “ Join us and ‘stand out.’”

The album, “God of This City,” is one of the best selling Christian recordings this year. It has been sung by American Idol winner Kris Allen and been recorded by Chris Tomlin and Passion.

Showing people the truth about the destructive nature of homosexuality, which has been gaining more and more acceptance of late, will go a huge way toward limiting the exploitation of children.

Minor correction to my previous comment...the $56 billion is estimated world-wide (not just U.S.). But the U.S. probably has the lion's share of that.

I'd also like to add that there are several entities and businesses which align themselves with the pornography industry. The homosexual community is one. The ACLU is another. Many common, householde names are also associated with dealings in the pornography industry....according to The Anti-Pornography League, the following are just some of the companies which tap into this huge market - Comcast, Marriott, Time Warner (and every magazine they produce), Barnes & Noble, Direct TV, AT&T, America Online and even Disney.

God makes Himself an enemy of no one....but man might make himself an enemy of God...question is - Whose side are you on??? Every army must have support personnel and a supply line. If you do business with entities or are sympathetic to groups that support the porn industry then do not count yourself among the armies of the Lord. Consider yourself a contributor to the sex-trade! The question asked by Joshua so long ago still applies today....Chose today whom you will serve...as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord!

The global sex trade begins in the minds and hearts of individuals. Although there is truth that it is impossible to mandate morality, it is logical that societies which place tight controls on the sex industry will have fewer sex crimes.

In the U.S., the annual economy of the pornography industry is $56 billion. Most individuals who commit crimes of sex against other persons, use pornography and many are addicted to it. But in the U.S., especially since the arrival of the internet, pornography is abundant. In fact, go through the magazine section of a major retailer and you will see nearly nude ladies and men at eye-level to small children.

Teaching people about the love of God and new life in Christ is the number one way to combat crimes of sex against all individuals including children. But also we should make every effort to place controls upon and inhibit the pornography industry from poisoning the minds of people...causing addictions that are as strong as any illegal drug.
