Southern Baptist Pastor Counters 2012 Doomsday 'Prophecies'

A Southern Baptist pastor has launched a media blitz to expose what he calls the delusion of those who believe in the 2012 apocalypse.

When the Sony Pictures film, "2012," debuted in theaters at No. 1 last November, Danny Daniels began countering with biblical truths what some interpret as the end of the world according to the Mayan calendar.

"Just as Y-2K, the Millennium Bug bugged out, nothing will come to pass in spite of the hype and hysteria over December 21, 2012 and the so-called Mayan calendar 'prophecies,'" Daniels asserted in a statement. "Our trust is in Christ and the Word of God, not in Mayan calendars or in a 'Galactic Synchronization Beam' from the center of the Milky Way."

Daniels, host of KEEN-17 TV's "Momentum" talk show and transitional interim pastor of First Southern Baptist Church in Las Vegas, is promoting The 2012 Truth Seminar to inform churches and pastors on how to discern spiritual truth and share the Gospel with non-believers.

The evangelist believes the popular "2012" movie, which raked in more than $736 million worldwide and recently set a box office record in China, has pushed "few counter-culture types" – or "New Age 'crazies'" – into the mainstream.

"The 2012 believers teach that there is no sin, only mistakes or lack of singularity and synchronicity with our higher self," Daniels said in a radio broadcast. "Plus everybody goes to heaven, and there is no judgment according to the 2012 cognoscenti."

With many Americans identifying as spiritual but not religious and seeking truth outside the Bible and church, Daniels explores and exposes the "bizarre belief of the New Spirituality fundamentalists," who believe anything they want, in the Truth seminars.

"Get this, once we have alignment in 2012 with the Galactic Synchronization Beam that will zap our DNA, we will become 'born again' and be a people of grace," Daniels said, describing some of the 2012 beliefs. "We will have the grace to FORGIVE God, that's right, forgive God, for all His 'Thou Shalt Nots' and his judgmentalism. This is what millions are starting to believe and even good evangelical church folks are buying into the pluralistic, do-it-yourself religion. I am beginning to see more spiritual apathy and anarchy, even in our good Southern Baptist churches."

The "2012 Delusion," the Baptist pastor says, "is a fantastic opportunity to witness for Christ and share truth to the unchurched, de-churched and post-churched" and even the churched.

"The next few years will bring a great window of opportunity for witness as 2012 fears and questions will abound," he said. "I hope these seminars will bring clarity and charity into the mix."

Daniels hosts weekly radio broadcasts debunking 2012 doomsday "prophecies." He also filmed a documentary movie, "The 2012 Delusion: Fact, Fiction and Friction."
