Rev. Hanson has forgotten that the scriptures declare what is acceptable; not his members.
I'm sure Rev. Hanson will still base the sexuality statement on Scripture. He just seems to be making an effort to reach out to the church and get the members to agree on a biblically sound statement.
So Rev. Hanson says that that the statement on sexuality "will be concocted on the basis of responses from lay people." Really? How about basing the statement on what the Scriptures teach? The issue of issue of gay clergy and same-sex blessings becomes clear when viewed through the light of Scripture. I find it ironic that ELCA is also going to discuss "biblical literacy" at the same Assembly. How about adding biblical obedience to the agenda? Sola Scriptura!
