I saw this film with a group of women ages 30-45. As I watched the film and my friends I thought "Wow, there is a lot of stuff here that will trigger many women." I feel it dealt with issues in a superficial manner quite often. I consider this a very pro-adoption movie as opposed to pro-family. I think it is telling of our culture that the waitresses maternity is so casually diregarded. When she initially says when won't be a mother and the father (who incidentally was even more diregarded/disrespected as his rights were not even considered) won't be a father because there won't be a baby...well, instead of gently pointing out the OBVIOUS, "Hey that point is already settled, you are already a MOTHER." No, they go on to let the waitress paint a grim if somewhat realistic picture of what an unexpected pregnacy is like for a single woman. So she lays out the groundwork for her reasoning and instead of saying...okay, you are all alone, have little income and are driven by FEAR (of not ever finding Mr.Right) let me HELP you get on your feet, care about you and your baby, the magic words come up "HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT ADOPTION?" To me this is not the best solution, the best is to help the MOTHER recognize the DIGNITY and CALL of her MATERNITY, to me this is REAL LOVE...for her and for the baby. Those who step in and "help" the MOTHER by taking HER child are in my mind opportunists of the worst sort. yes, they may think they have high motives, "saving " the baby, how about REALLY stepping up and saving the baby and the mother, the family? To me THAT would be truly pro-family!
Quite likely there will be a number of replies explaining how their adoption of an infant was "different" and necessary...no, I think there are few situations that really require adoption and even then the child should be kept if at all possible in the family the child was "born" into.
I think most adoptions are chosen by the Mother out of fear or economic necessity (what does that say about those who profit by this?). Be really pro-family and help mothers and babies stay together!
That said I did think the film was well acted and directed.
gavalav--
Well said! Should there be any other reason for seeing a movie other than the message? "I go see movies for the entertainment" is what I hear. But when those same movies that "entertain" us promote violence, adulterous sex (any sex outside of marriage for that matter), homosexuality, murder, greed, etc, etc, then they are no longer considered "entertainment". There's an old saying that I've kept for many years that says "Garbage in....garbage out." That means that what ever you watch, read, or listen to will be what comes out. People call it "brainwashing" . They usually refer to it with speaking of Christians. They claim that we have been brainwashed, when in reality EVERYONE has. It's just a matter of how you've been brainwashed.
"Bella" sounds like a movie that all Christians in America should support because of its pro-family messages. The family in America has been under siege from homosexuality, abortion and divorce, among other things, and the movie industry can do so much to counter the subversive, anti-family culture. There are young women out there who need to see this movie for the positive message it contains; and I daresay there are also young men out there for whom the movie will provide food for thought. Let's give the movie a chance to do some good in American society.
anniefourjesus: "Why do some of my fellow Christians think they have to attack people in order to defend their faith? This is not Biblical. The Word tells us to give the reason for the Hope that we have, and to let our lights shine. We are to go ye into all the world and preach the Gospel, that means that the Gospel should be so evident in my life that people notice the difference. The Gospel isn't shouting out damnation and hellfire."
**wild applause**
It's refreshing to see a good movie out, that actually has a story line and meaning behind it. I'm an avid reader and enjoy a good movie, a good comedy, but I do not enjoy movies that are mindless, horror flicks, most movies today are basically porn, soft and hardcore and they are so anti-God. If people choose to go see those, that is there business, it isn't my choice.
I'd like to see more choices available. and movies like Bella give me that, a choice. I've not been flagged yet, if I am so be it, I speak the truth in love and the person doing the flagging, even God allows us to make our own choices, He doesn't force anything on anyone.
Jesus tells us to let our conversation be seasoned with salt, and with gentleness.
Hey Prophet that is an understatement. LOL!
Why do some of my fellow Christians think they have to attack people in order to defend their faith? This is not Biblical. The Word tells us to give the reason for the Hope that we have, and to let our lights shine. We are to go ye into all the world and preach the Gospel, that means that the Gospel should be so evident in my life that people notice the difference. The Gospel isn't shouting out damnation and hellfire. It is sharing the love of Christ (the HolySpirit's job is to convict) not ours. Outside the body of Christ is the Almighty God's domain, within the body of Christ, the Lord God does tell us to look after one another, that includes correcting, rebuking, and teaching, speaking the truth in love of course. My brothers and sisters in my fellowship have my full permission to correct me and hold me accountable should they see me even slightly pulling away from God, I need that in my life, and I do the same for them. Jesus loves us so much He laid down His life even while we were His enemies.
This movie speaks about the sacredness of life and abortion destroys life, life in the womb and the life of the mother and all those involved. I know many who have been affected by abortion, all in a negative way.
It is time for the church to speak the truth in love, to speak with seasoned salt, abortion is the murder of our own species and it is one of the greatest acts of evil and mankind works in hand with the enemy in this endeavor, but thanks be to GOD that Jesus CHrist has redeemed us from this too!
This declares to me how truly great God's love is that even in this, God forgives and redeems. I have been blessed to see many woman/men/families restored after abortion. Praise be to GOD for HIS blessings in Christ Jesus, our Lord!
Prophet, what are your expections of this movie, from what you've seen/heard about it?
But, of course, I watched it expeting what I got--a powerful movie with a powerful message. If I went to see it with the expectation of it being an action-adventure then I would be rather disappointed. And give us a break about our spell check...hahaha. My fiingers can't keep up with my thinking...and if I don't type fast, I'll lose my train of thought. (Yes, my train of thought does get derailed if it goes too fast. LOL). So, if I mespel sumtheeng, than I em soree. Blame it on an overactive mind. hahaha
So someone is flagging people indiscriminately? Could you imagine if this was the real world and someone was nuking other people just because. That would totally suck!
But seriously...I'm thinking of checking out this movie. And, of course there will be varying views about it, because people have different tastes and expectations. My favorite movie is "Facing The Giants".
Whoa! Jump back! I think you need to simmer down, dannygirlagain. I don't know about you but I saw this movie last night and it was good and I didn't just think so because I'm a Catholic. It wasn't the best movie I've ever seen but it was enjoyable. It was subtle and artful but had a clear point of view. And encouraging Christians to go see the rare movie that is going to uplift us rather than mock our faith is a good thing. Money talks and by supporting movies that show traditional Christian values such as love and family in a good light, we can show movie executives that there is a market for that kind of movie. But even more than that, this movie can stand alone as being a good movie! And usually people like to see good movies :)
I think the Christians are "going ga ga," as you said, about this family friendly movie because there just aren't many movies made that line up with what we believe as Christians. So we get excited about the one that comes out every few years as compared to the hundreds of movies that come out every year that contain non-Christian messages. Albeit, many of those are good and enjoyable movies too! And I don't think this movie will get anyone saved as you suggest, since it was not really about Christianity. But it might make some women reconsider getting an abortion.
Now, as far as your ad hominem attacks on the Catholic Church, I wish you'd refrain from your rants and baseless insults but you are free to say whatever nonsense you think. I won't flag you. But I don't think too many people agree with you since your comment sounds pretty crazy. Maybe you should check your facts before you make such ridiculous claims.
I agree unless the comments are offensive to a person. If you want to comment about the article that is fine but if you attack my faith in abusive terms then it is offensive.
Leave the rest of us alone and stop flagging comments unless they are abusive, spam, offensive, illegal, racist or libellous...which this comment is none of the above, but will be flagged by you because you are not obeying the rules
I've noticed that it has even found its way into other postings, which ruins it for everybody. A lot of the enjoyment I get is to get into a debate with somebody
I totally agree, I feel that the flagging should be done away with and that the person should be able to send an email to the admin and if they deem it is inappropriate then to remove it.
I saw Bella yesterday. It is an excellent movie with moving emotions and a powerful message of redemption and grace. It's not a film to be compared with Narnia or Lord of the Rings in that it is a low-budget production without the fast-moving special effects. However, what it lacks in catchy visuals or stage sets, it makes up in fine acting, authentic character development and thought-provoking truths. Go do yourself a favor and see Bella with your fellowship group and friends/family.
I just saw Bella and it wasn't the best movie I've ever seen but it was still very good. It was a little slow but very cute and it was refreshing to see a story about love and not just sex. It was a rare treat. And it was enjoyable!
I am certainly going to see Bella the moment it comes to South Africa. Why? Not only because it is obviously a great movie, but also because it will add my minute financial support to a precious initiative against the Hollywood abominations. Christians, let's support this good cause!
Hey everyone. Let's try to hold a civilized debate in here. Some people in here - won't say which - really need to stop mudslinging like little children and behave like adults.
I'd also like to comment how great it is that CP is giving such a powerful movie a lot of positive advertising. Great site....keep up the good work!!!
I think we shouldn't lose that this article was about a movie that is an uplifting story about a life being saved and then danny brought a lot of hate into his comments. He/she is full of a lot of hate and I'll pray for this troubled individual.
At least somebody's doing something positive for the name of Christianity. We won't all agree, but we need to stick together. A house divided against itself cannot stand. We need to know when to debate together over internal matters and when to say, "Amen! Hallelujah!" for a Christian doing something generally good for the world.
I have not flagged her either in this discussion. Civility is something that is needed that is for sure.
As I stated previously I don't mind returning time and time again to a site that promotes what I believe...flag away
