'The Bible has to be in every hand before Jesus returns!'
That is not true... The word says when all have Heard the good news. Don't wait to recieve a Bible. A Bible cannot save you. Understanding surpasses all knowledge. The Bible is the knowledge of God. God said His people perish for a lack of understanding. Check Isaiah chapter 6.
Ephesians 3:17-19
That Christ may dwell in your hearts and through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

The requirement is found in Matthew 28:19: Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you."
Providing bibles is the proverbial frosting on the cake. Books can be banned, the Word cannot.

"China announced today that this report is completely untrue. My guess would be that it was in fact true, but when they saw the backlash this created, they had a change of heart."
Yep, those lying Communophobes ... when will they learn that Communism has done so much for the betterment of mankind and the cultivation of individual human rights, hmm??

'The Bible has to be in every hand before Jesus returns!'
In that case, He may never return. In reality, Jesus will return when the Father says for Him to come back. That may be today, tomorrow, next week, next year or 500 years. We honestly have no clue when He will return.
Yes, things are bad, and they are getting worse. However, the corruption of our civilization here in America has no bearing on when Jesus will return.

Is the Christian Post's source for this story more authoritative than the US Olympic Committee? The International Herald Tribune is reporting (http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2007/11/08/sports/NA-SPT-OLY-Beijing-Bibles.php) this:
"'We have heard from the IOC and there will be no restriction on athletes bringing the Bible or any other religious book into the village for their personal use,' [USOC spokesman Darryl] Seibel said in a telephone interview from USOC offices in Colorado Springs."

"What do they have to fear, and why?"
Good question! Perhaps they just want everyone on a level playing field. After all, the whole world realizes that the Christian god regularly intervenes in sporting contests, recklessly suspending his holy laws of nature to allow impossible field goals, unhittable sliders, and other obvious miracles.
Why should the Chinese allow this unfair advantage, when they are in a position to at least mitigate some of the awesome effects? Do you think Curt Schilling, a mediocre pitcher at best, would have a shot at the Hall of Fame if he was denied the opportunity to pray for five minutes on the mound holding his cross before he starts to pitch? No way! I guess poor Kyle Farnsworth, who does the same thing, must not be praying to the right god.
I know that Christians like to tie civil rights abuses such as this to atheism, but that is not the case. The communist system espouses the same kind of dogma that Christianity does, merely with a different focus. The state is supreme rather then some imaginary deity. It is the supplanting of another, contrary dogma that they fear, as they have a population already conditioned to blindly obey. Such populations have always been the most fertile areas for religions of all types to grow and prosper, and Christianity has always enjoyed it's strongest success among the most exploited classes.

Two things come to mind as I read this article on banning the Bible from the Olympics next year. The first are the words of Jesus after his resurrection,"Peace be with you". Jesus is in control of this situation, as he always is. I believe we do not need to worry about the banning, it's not the first time nor will it be the last. The second thing that came to my mind is that no power on earth will stop the spread of the Gospel to China and to the ends of the earth. My younger sister, who is only in her twenties, left early this year to do missionary work in China in preparation for the Olympics next year. China and the devil may ban the Bible, throw believers in prison and do their worst, but they will not prevail! The Bible has to be in every hand before Jesus returns! Please pray for the believers and the missionaries in China.

What the Chinese government is doing should come as no surprise to anyone. All comunist governments,as well as most worldly governments are and have been enemys of God since the beginning of civilization. In spite of a flourishing underground church, and outside observation the Chinese have continues to commit as much persecution and human rights abuse as they can get away with and still be a major player in the world economy. We need to remember to continually pray for our brothers and sisters in China and all countries where the cost of picking up our own cross and following Jesus is so much more than it is here in America.

If you don't agree with the bible or any ideas in general, the worst thing you can do is ban it or them. They just dive underground, and then if they are wrong, how will you show that through debate, and if they are right, you've lost the chance to see that for yourself. In this case, of course, the Chinese are depriving themselves of the first option, but it is still their loss.

The devil and its agents fear the most is the word of God. If that is freely avilable to the
Chinees people, the truth will let them free. The Chinees, or any other government in the world
can close doors for the Bible, but one day all the doors will be kicked open and China will be
filled with Bibles. Nobody has won the fight agains the word of God in history, because it is
sharper than a double edged sword, most powerful than the most potential weapon that man
has ever created. China had 5 million Christians at the time of the communist revolution, now
they have 110 million believers, praise the Lord, the CHURCH OF JESUS IS RAPIDLY GROWING
EVERYWHERE IN THE WORLD.

How can Christians worship freely in the village without Bibles?
Huh?
I guess I'll never understand why some need this or that to worship their God. In the event all else fails pack the "soldier's prayer book", a deck of cards.

I am also interested in knowing what else was banned. "Religious" items is a very broad term. I would love to see them ban the Koran. That would be a danger in itself really.

To the Chinese government: You can try all you like to try stop the Word of God, however the Truth will reach everyone in your country just as God promises it will! No one will have an excuse!
