KayMarie, I'll be watching EBay now!
Merry Christmas everyone! Thank you, Jesus!
Merry Christmas everyone.
Who can understand his ways? Who can fathom his thoughts? Barbara Walters has just been recruited as a messenger against her wishes and better judgement to get millions of people to read that bible verse and to know that God created the universe and that he alone is LORD.
Interesting, she called it a "Christmas Card" ?
DannyPoo, you sure have a way with words!!! LOL! I'm a writer and I'm always looking for new words, and Christophobic is a good term! There is a lot of that going around lately!!
Mrs. Walters is Christophobic, and anyone here who complains about getting a Christmas Card that mentions Jesus or bible references. You then also are suffering from Christophobia.
While several celebrities are very proud of their faith in Christ, some other celebrities are
getting panic attacks while reading Bible verse. Barbara Walters revealed to the world that
she has dislike for the word of God even in a Christmas card from President Bush. Let she
understand that there are millions of people so deeply love the word of God. What she said
was not a simple " freedom of speech" but " foolish pride".
what ever happened to freedom of speech? our right to choose is our right, including our faith and profession of it. obviously the bush family has choosen jesus christ as their lord and savior, and sent this card to proclaim god as creator,if we censor the president then next will it be any christian? choose the only way to be saved before it's to late. god loves you and so do i.
Tell Barbara to auction her card on E bay...and give the money to (Christian) charity. Almost any of us would be glad to own that little treasure.
There wouldn't even be a Christmas if there were no Christ or Christians! ! !
That card was all about the LORD (who is JESUS) people need to take the BIBLE as one book, it is not two separate books. The birth of Jesus is very important, but the baby Jesus is not who we are waiting for. We are waiting for the Second Advent, The King of kings!
Even at our church as we celebrate the birth of Christ, we don't look at Jesus as a baby any longer, HE is The King and we need to be ready for HIS return! So many want to keep Him as a baby, or think He tarries in coming, but HE is at the door and the message that was sent out through that Card is that the LORD is One and the heavens declare His glory, that HE gives life to everything, including man and we were created to Worship this great GOD!
I was truly blessed by going and reading this card! Thank you Barbara for making a controversy of such a great card, and now so many are talking about this card! :o) It is awesome how the glory of GOD fills the earth and we never know how or by whom HE shall appear! Thank you Father God!
I just looked at the card, it is very beautiful and The Scripture is from
Nehemiah 9:6 -- You alone are the LORD. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you.
By using this verse, the President and Laura Bush recognize the Sovereign LORD! This is a blessing to our nation and to our great GOD! Why should HE not be recognized. God is showing Himself to Ms. Barbara Walters and to our nation. HE is AWESOME!!
"How great is our God! Sing with me how great is our God and all will see how great is our GOD!" Blessed be our Lord God!
Thank you Mr. President for not being ashamed of The Gospel and of our LORD!! You think maybe this is why he gets attacked, because he bows his knees to the Lord God! We need to be praying for the President and his family!
Amen Felicia! Everything comes from the hand of God and remember when God used King Cyrius to rebuild the Temple, this was not a man of God, but God moved his heart to help re-build the temple after the Israelites came out of captivity! Our God is always talking to us, are we listening!!! We don't always like whom or what HE may choose to use to deliver that message, but God is GOD and HE can use any means He chooses!
What would Jesus think of all the people who condemn the President rather than pray for him as God instructs us to do, Pray for leaders and those in positions of authority, because GOD is the one who puts these people into OFFICE!!!!! We have wars because of mens greed and selfishness. Don't put all this war on Mr. President! The whole human race has in one way or another contributed to this mess,. but thanks be to JESUS CHRIST who saves us from this world.
Jesus LOVES Mr. President Bush! as HE loves us all! This world is reserved for fire folks, if you are not rightly related to Jesus Christ, you need to do so, God is God and HE will not be mocked! No authority exists but God's and HE moves as HE wills!!! No matter what any man says!!!! God's plan is moving forward and either you walk with the LORD or you walk with Satan! There is the truth!
I do not suggest ripping the power out from under the SC. However, if I think a decision the court makes contrasts with my beliefs, I will live my beliefs. We ought to obey God rather than men.
Oh dear Barb; you can send it to me, i'd love to have a Holiday Greeting card from George and Laura. What a family heirloom! I would think you would be humbled and proud to still be on that mailing list. Besides, It didn't say anything about Jesus, who the "holiday/ season" is supposed to be about anyway; hence the former name "Christ-mas". God bless you Barbara. Merry Christmas!
Poor Bush never can do right, I am taken back that Barb who I consider conservative would object to a scripture but, I believe this is the result of Neo-Platonic thinking and actions; in short New Ageism. Money and rateings is at the core of it. Bad company also produces bad manners! This is also a scripture.
You know Bawbwa I used to like to watch you. Thought you to be unbiased. Today I say to you, why do you let something you obviously don't believe in (God), bother you so much. You lose me in your TV ratings and I hope millions more
Linda Kidd
This is what Jesus did for all our sins (including mistakes) HE DIED FOR THEM! We may not make every perfect decision or wise ones, but Jesus died for these as well. Who am I to judge any other human being, when I have been forgiven of so much sin in my own life!!!
People keep asking "what would Jesus do?? HE WOULD LOVE THEM and HE DOES! He would forgive them and HE HAS, and HE would discipline them, which HE DOES! Look at your own lives and look to JESUS and see how you measure up! Do not look to other humans, we all fall down at times! Let us pray that the LORD will so move President Bush's heart and mind to make WISE and Godly decisions. It's not easy being in a position of authority, and our president and leaders need our prayers! NOT our condemnation, if they need Godly discipline, God will see to that too! HE has a wonderful wayof EXPOSING sin in our lives, then we need to repent and seek HIS forgiveness.
Let us take this Christmas time and keep our President and his family in our prayers that God will guide Him in the direction that GOD wants not man. We don't know how God is working all these things out. So much of what has happened in America is due to God discipling our nation for SIN!!!!! People want to blame the President, well, we have plenty of blame to share in the evil that has penetrated our nation. Many close their eyes to the true condition of our nation, that is not going to benefit anyone. Least of all our children, violence is at an all time high!!! Our children deserve better than this and so do we, God is calling on all HIS children, who are called by HIS Name to repent of the evil that we have done in HIS sight, so HE will come and heal our land!
TokenSP, I always keep you in my prayers, and today I do pray that Jesus will get your attention in a very real way. He has been waiting for you a long time TokenSp, won't you give Him a chance? I'm not talking religion, but just trying to see if Jesus is real, you won't ever be sorry for trying. I tried that a few years back and HE is the greatest blessing in my life.
I'm not preaching at you TokenSp, but I do pray for you and others who don't know Jesus Christ, the Hope of The World.
Merry Christmas and a Very Blessed New Year!! (Hey, it's snowing in Boston again! Praise God!))
Question: what would Jesus think of bush and america's invasion and destruction of iraq and the deaths and wounding of so many of its peoples??
That's a real nonsense. If a muslim gives me a card with a quote from the Qoran wishing me the best in Ramadam, Sure I'll receive and be grateful for his wishes. The same with my jewish friends in Hanukah. What's the big deal! It's Christmass, were are celebrating Jesus's Birthday!
Really these secularist journalists are showing the same stupidity and intolerance of Fundamentalists!
The question we all should ask. Is what do Babara Walter believe in?. What are we celebrating, the birth of Jesus Christ which has prophecies rooted from the old testament. Jesus is the history behind the old testament and the new testament. You can't separate the two. I do not see anything wrong with the Christmas card with the word of God written inside whether old or new testament gospel. It is the word of God, that's what matters the most. Maybe God is sending her a message through that card which she needs to pay attention to and stop critizing because she will confuse herself the more if she continues to argue why she receivied such a card from the President and his wife.
She should thank God that she even received a card with the word of God in it. There are so many people on the earth today who are wishing to receive such a card. Babara Walter needs to prayerfully read the word God that was sent to her in that card, and also consult her bible. There is a reason for everything that happens to us on earth. God uses whoever he chooses to send his message accross. Read the bible Babara Walter, you cannot challenge the word of God.
This is soooooo sick! ("cool" for you over 40 crowd) You have to check this out.

"It's called Christmas with a capital C"
sorry. i'm just messing. Merry Christmas to you all...especially Token. I love 'im. How can you not? He's cute when he gets grumpy.
I'm kidding of course.....Jesus would have used a baseball bat....
And use it on Token. yah!
Im gonna order one of those "WWJD" tazers for Christmas. Yah!
O and annie, its an improvent and what more could I ask of you? ^^. thanks.
If we tossed out the power the supreme court has with judicial review their authority would be mute. I see no logical reason why their decision was wrong, unless of course you want there to be a state religion, but then youd better have a pretty good case for that.
marantha
I know perfectly well what both sides think of the arguements. Also it doesnt really matter what people of the past wanted or consisdered. We can take lessons from their example, but it doesnt mean we have to limit ourselves to their logic. They had no ability to forsee every conflict that would arise in America, and as such it is our duty as a civilization and our governments duty as a ruling authority over the masses to protect our rights. Sometimes we've got to do things that werent originally intended to protect ourselves from new forces. In any case, I stress again you check out the site ^^, you might find yourself in quite the interesting position.
"Whoever calls upon the Name of The Lord shall be saved." George W. Bush is a Christian, you may not like that fact; but he is and he's my brother in Christ and Laura Bush is my sister in Christ. We are Christians first and Americans second! We answer to God not to man.
I know from a minister who goes to the White House and is in Counsel with the President, that this President is with the Lord every morning in prayer before he even sees anyone else. Praise be to God.
America was founded as a CHRISTIAN nation (it was not atheist who came here, they were God-fearing people). The truth be told, for each document the founding fathers worked on, they were in PRAYER as they wrote them! We have the FREEDOM of Religion and to EXPRESS it and that includes the President! I am grateful that he is a man who knows Jesus Christ, and my prayer is that the Lord will strengthen him and bless his family.
Being a christian doesnt mean one is perfect, but that one chooses to identify with Jesus Christ and it is a day to day process of how HE builds our lives and the work of The Holy Spirit renewing our minds and transforming us. I see tremendous growth in Mr. President and it isn't easy to be president at any time, but he is president in a time of war and not just promulgated by America. America has enemies because of her christian/judeo stand and anytime you stand with God, you are an enemy to Satan. For all unbelievers, you can disregard what I am saying, but for all believers, we have to have a biblical worldview; and when I look around the world, The Holy Spirit shows me a time of escalation of events and things, and we need to remember that God is at work here as the End Times move forward.
Let us be people on our knees before our God in prayer for our nation to repent and that great revival will come to the hearts of our people. God's people know that judgement begins with the Household of God! If you are on the fence brothers and sisters, get off the fence and either walk with God or walk with Satan. The KING is riding forward and coming for his Bride!
Hear the Word of The Lord! "Prepare ye the way of The Lord of lords and King of kings!"
'Separation of Church and state was upheld by a court decision'
The Supreme Court has chosen to interpret the Constitution in this way, and I believe they are obviously wrong. I think most of us would agree that the SC has made many crazy interpretations (i.e., Roe v. Wade).
The Barbara Walters nonsense is just a distraction, and people are getting fooled here, I think. What the White House sent out isn't a "Christmas" card at all, but a religious "Holiday" card. Does it mention Christ anywhere? No, according to the description. Does it mention Christmas? No. Why do you think that is? Wealthy Jewish campaign contributors who might not appreciate a "Christmas" card are on the White House's mailing list, that's why.
Christians have heard the atheists' arguments thousands to times too, Token. But they don't hold water for those who know the Lord.
P.S. Christians are celebrating the birth of JESUS, not the birth of any other god. That's why it's called CHRISTmas.
Actually, I heard a Jewish rabbi say Jesus was most likely born in September -- CONCEIVED in December. He said ancient Jews traced a child's birth to the time of his conception, since the Bible is clear that life begins at conception.
It is your opinion that President Bush was wrong, but I do not agree.
And it is true that separation of church and state has become something which Thomas Jefferson and the other founding fathers never intended it to be.
Separation of Church and state was upheld by a court decision.
maranatha7593, the real "reason for the season" should accurately be celebrated in the late spring/early summer, which is when Jesus was historically more likely born. You're putting a reason on a season that is based on a pagan Sun God's birth.
Nonetheless, if Bush was a private citizen, it would be a different matter. But he's the official head of a country that has no official religion. His actions speak to the world, not just Barbara Walters. His actions in this case were wrong.
Oops, correction: I had meant to say, "I find it refreshing that President Bush would actually refer to the real reason for the season and not be INTIMIDATED by the Politically Correct Thought Police."
I find it refreshing that President Bush would actually refer to the real reason for the season and not be offended by the Politically Correct Thought Police. And I do think it worthy of note that both scripture references are from the OT portion of the Bible, which is embraced by Jews and Muslims, who both say they trace their religious origins back to Abraham.
Oh, dear -- Baba Wawa is offended. So what else is new??? ;-)
"it is stated that State and Church be separated"
The "Seperation of Church and State" is not found in the Constitution. Instead, it came from a comment Thomas Jefferson made. His actual intent when making the statement was to keep the government out of religion, not to keep religion out of the government. I do not believe the president should give up his individual freedoms to appease folks. Besides, Christianity should determine how you live every part of your life. You cannot seperate God from any part of it.
Be warned in advance though they can be harsh, but that is a consequence of circumstance. Theyve heard the same arguements a thousand times. But it is a good experience.
Also on a side note ^^.
You guys should check out this site!
http://groups.msn.com/AtheistVSGod
Very good site if you want to test your debating skills ^^.
I also believe Bush was wrong here. He has a right to believe in what ever he wants to believe as is a given right to all human beings, but this man is the President of the United States. This means he is no ordinary man, he is not just another human being, he is the President. The rules that apply to you or me are different for him, he has to be completely impartial. Why? Because he reigns over one of the most diverse countries in the world. Whats more, it is stated that State and Church be separated. I know what I say will be thrown out I simply wanted to put my two cents in.
I currently have at least 3 cards on my Gov't desk here at work that wish me Merry Christmas. But they were given by co-workers, NOT the head of a nation without a specific official religion. Bush was wrong.
To horseplay40sm: AMEN!! I never thought of it that way!!!! Holy DAY!! :o) God be praised!! So, next time some wishes me a Happy Holyday, I shall say thanks and you have a happy holyday too! May HIS glory fill this earth!
All of my Christmas cards have a Christian message on them - I don't sit on the fence of Christianity and my friends and family know it. But, if I was at the mall or something, I wouldn't wish someone Merry Christmas unless I knew that was their preference. Happy holidays is fine - like someone said before, holiday is just holy day shortened so the Lord is going to get His! :)
jesus4me - Think about who Jesus was abrasive towards. He wasn't abrasive towards unbelievers - he was abrasive towards the religious elite and his followers (other Christians). That is exactly what I was doing - I was admonishing another Christian. Jester was being abrasive towards an unbeliever - something we are not called to do.
Imagine somebody having a problem with Christmas and Christmas cards, it reminds me of the protestant reformation when protestants condemned Christmas celebration as "trappings of popery" and the "rags of the Beast". I go to mass every Sunday but it's Christ's Mass every year that holds a special place in my heart. This Catholic holiday overcame the protestant reformation and it will overcome Barbara Walters...MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
So Mizz Walters is offended by an apparent religious card with an actual scripture in it. Funny, that still to this day, there are those that feel threatened by anything pertaining to Christ. I guess the first crucifixion wasn't enough for some.
Actually, I find this incident rather ironic because even though the intention of the card may have been to look genuinely "Christian" or customary, I don't think this is the case at all. Nowhere in the greeting does it use the term "Christmas" or refer to Jesus or even offer a wish for a "Happy New Year". It does mention the year 2007 which is unusual. There is a "Holiday tree" in the window but nothing else that would allude to the birth of Christ or be cause for a celebration.
Also, so I've been told, the card quotes from the Old Testament but it is the New Testament which records the Birth of Jesus on Christmas.
Let's not forget that the person who sent this "Holiday card" belongs to "The Order of Skull and Bones" cult, and who once said publicly, "it's so secret I can't even talk about it."
So when the reference is made to worshiping the "Lord", I don't think it's a stretch to say that he's not talking about the entity that the majority of Christians revere. If I'm wrong about that, then one thing's for sure - Bush is one of the biggest hypocrites that's ever walked the face of the Earth.
Mizz Walters makes the statement, Dont you think its a little interesting that the president of all the people is sending out a religious Christmas card? Yes, I find it very interesting Mizz Walters, but the real question here is, "which religion is he referring to?"
ifeelfine wrote:

ifeefine, the Gospel will offend many, but what you're missing, is that to some it will be a sweet smelling aroma, and to others the smell of death, because they choose not to repent of their sins and choose to continue living in sin. We are called not to be ashamed of the Gospel of Christ.
I also respectfully want to ask of you two questions ifeelfine, and maybe you can answer them.
1) Do you think that Jesus Christ was not abrasive and offensive when he turned the tables of the money changers over in the temple? Does this mean he was not loving because he took action?
2) Do you think Jesus Christ hugged the Apostle Peter and whispered to him it will be ok Peter, right before he said "get thee behind me Satan"? Don't you think Jesus Christ was rather harsh with Peter when he said what he said to him; yet, it was the most loving thing he could ever say to him at that time.
ifeelfine, the same goes with some people we know who are headed for hell. They have "jumoed off the 15 story building named life without Christ, and don't want to be told that they will eventually hit the concrete and cease to be. They don't want to be told that if they don't repent and accept Christ as Savior, they will die in their sins, and be eternally seperated from God. No, tey think you trying to show them the way to Salvation is being offensive, and abrasive; yet, when we share Christ with people, some will find it offensive, and don't want to be told that they need Jesus. And even if they tell us that, then they are not rejecting us, but rejecting the one who is stretching out His hands to save those who are seperated from God. Despite this rejection, and our being "offensive" to many, we are commanded by Christ to go ye ad make disciples. It is not a "well, I'll think about it, or maybe I'll do it if I feel like it", etc. No, we are commanded to do so in whatever place in life the Lord has called you to be in; whether at work, at play, wit your family, with friends, in the home mission field or abroad. Wherever you are, we are called to be witnesses for Him.
Imagine that: sending a religious CHRISTmas card!
Are we as a nation really becoming this anti christian i mean come on is the president supposed to have no religion whatsoever should he send out cards that say happy holidays may whoever is your god bless you this season of giving thanks for um all the gifts that you get this year
It's a sad time we live in, when you wish that someone would have complete and utter joy. It's also a wonderful time too, because as these scoffers come out more and more, I will look up for my redemption draweth nigh....
It's sad that it's so offensive to say Merry Christmas. I get a chuckle over the Happy Holidays. If broken down; Holiday is HOLY- DAYS. Our Good Lord will have HIS day anyways!!! Merry Christmas to all!!!
shrdlu...
OR..........it could be contributed to when they took prayer out of the public school, legalized abortion, separation of church and state, etc, etc...maybe we SHOULD changes things back. Put prayer back in school, make the Bible a required subject in school (as it once was).
The Cross of Christ is OFFENSIVE and The WORD is also!!!! It wasn't like they sent her an obscene card; it was a blessing that she received, but God doesn't make us receive His blessings. We never know how or by whom God may send us a blessing. It may come from the least likely person or event.
Often times we dismiss blessings because we don't like how they come or are ignorant to know that this is indeed from God. We'll find one day that God sent many blessings that we just casually dismiss. The Word of God is sharper than any two edged sword! Praise GOD!
God bless President George and Laura Bush!!!!! Christmas is all about JESUS not Mohammed or anyone else! What should a Christmas card contain, it is a CHRIST MASS!!! Celebrate the soon coming KING! Halleluyah to the King!
Amen JC! Many may say what they want about President Bush, but the man knows Jesus Christ and my prayers are that the LORD will continue to bless him and guide him and lead him and his wife and family! No one is perfect and I do believe that George is God's man for such a time as this! You go on George Bush and proclaim the LORD GOD mightily, you have brothers and sisters out here Mr. President who are standing with you inspite of how it may look!
God bless Ms. Walters also, and may the WORD of GOD change her life as well!
You all hve a very Blessed and Merry CHRISTMAS!!! I love the LORD and I am NOT ashamed of the Gospel and it seems neither are the Bushs!
Jesus is the Only One worthy of any celebration!
poppy01 wrote (Tue Dec 18, 2007 8:16 am): ". . . after all our history and country have been based on a trust in God. "
Not until the 1950's, when "In God We Trust" replaced "E Pluribus Unum" (From the many, one) as the national motto. Given all the division this has caused, it might be wise to change back!
As I recalled, Paul the apostle was stoned many times for "being abrasive". Stop whining about being PC. Do something! Rock the boat! Quit worrying about whether someone may get upset. Yes, there are times to be tactful (and I was with my customer. I didn't speak to him rudely, or arrogantly. I was simply talking to him about what I was doing this Christmas season, because he asked). But you will never get through this life without pissing a number of people off, and expect to have accomplished anything.
Yes, I was boastful that I would speak the truth even when others may not like it. If it were truly abrasive, why didn't my father (who is a pastor) get upset when I wished him a Merry Christmas? Probably because the only time it becomes "abrasive" is when it offends you. And once again, if Christians were afraid of offending others, the Gospe would never get spread. We would all hide inside our little church buildings like some exclusive club, or secret brotherhood. Wait!....most churches to that already! Well, no wonder why they would think that talking about God is "abrasive". They don't do it.
I guess when the truth is spoken it offends all, even those who Claim to blood bought, Holy Ghost filled Christians, oh wait, maybe thats the problem. People dont have that relationship.
Jester - What are you talking about? I'm not even Catholic (I was raised Roman Catholic but am United Methodist now). Don't back pedal - you were boastful and gleeful in your abrasiveness. We are called to witness, not be abrasive.
It's really too bad adults have to be so petty and childish. What's it going to take to get people to grow up and act like adults? Ive always admired and respected Barbara but I'm afraid not anymore when she shows disrespect for Mr President Bush and Laura over such pettiness,
ifeelfine,
Now that his brother Jeb has converted to Catholicism, I'm waiting for this Christmas card:
http://bp3.blogger.com/_GhYU5Fb-kNw/Rmqh33Kcr8I/AAAAAAAAAB4/rNqcn8X-nbc/s1600-h/r2476047815.jpg
My pastor has always said that if you give somebody enough time, they will usually expose their true selves. He is right.
Barbara Walters obviously doesn't know the difference between God's Word and religion. What she received from Elton was religious. It had cute pictures of "angels" and all kinds of things, but didn't speak of life, it just said "Season's Greetings". I guess you could send this kind of card out in Duck Hunting or Rabbit Hunting Season if you wished.
What she received from President Bush spoke of life, love, and hope for all mankind.
---------------
I'm wondering, if President Clinton had sent her a card like this while in the White House, would she be making the same fuss?
Food for thought.
Christmas is a religious holiday,so of course scripture is more than appropriate. if she is a believer or not is not relevant. Jesus gave us the great commision 2000 years ago. it was not politcally correct then and it isn't today. if we are worried about offending people we might as well all leave this planet ,after all some misguided souls are "offended" if you are black, white, asian, etc, wear short dresses, skirts, makeup, whatever the case may be. barbara walters will live through her "pain" of being offended. afterall, since she is part of the human race quite clearly she i am sure with the rest of us has "offended" people in her life and they survived too. funny the apostles weren't concerned with offending, they simply preached the gospel and managed through Jesus to save souls!
As several have agreeed that it would be a privledge to receive a CHRISTmas card ( from anyone let-a-lone the President of the U.S.) we have to understand that main stream media is at work mostly for satan. The BIBLE does say that "in the end times knowledge of the world will increase but, knowledge of the word will decrease". Secondly, either ALL the BIBLE is true or none of it according to II Peter 1:20-21. II Tim. 2:15-17 when we have done this, then lets see what there is to say.
Most people would consider it a privledge to receive any acknowledgement from the President of the United States and his wife. Barbara Walters should be no exception.
They always send out Old Testament passages so as not to offend their Jewish friends. Apparently, Baba Wawa has denounced or forgotten her Jewish heritage. Merry Christmas anyway Barb!
You preach it, Prophet!
i thiing ifeelfine is more worried about the image of the Catholic church than the image of Christ.
In regards to my customer, I neve said anything about God or Jesus to him. I was merely talking about Christmas shopping and getting my lights up and stuff. The closest I came to mentioning anything about God was that I said I was going to a Christmas Eve church service. I didn't push God on him or anything. And if that bothered him, then I am not sorry. I am not going to walk around on eggshells around people worrying that I'm going to offend somebody with what I say or do. Too many Christians are so PC that they're afraid to even mention God or Jesus to anyone for fear of offending. And how are you to witness if you can't talk about God.
This is how bad it is. Our church went to rake leaves for people around the neighborhood for free. We never mentioned God or Jesus. Never invited them to church. Never proslytized anyone. One guy we asked, found out we were part of a church group (he asked who we were). He was upset, claiming that we were trying to recruit him and push our beliefs on him. All we wanted to do was rake his leaves for him. Now, following ifeelfines advice, we should have just stayed in our little church building, because we "offended" someone.
No...there will always be people who will get offended regardless of what you say or how you say it. That's their problem. God called us to preach the Gospel to all the nations. And that's what I'm gonna do.
Prophet - my concern isn't with talking about Jesus at this time of year - anyone who knows me, knows I'm a Christian. But the concern is with offending people. Jester makes it clear that he was getting under the guy's skin. As Christians we are definitely not called to do that. And you're absolutely right, if I had a neighbor or freind that was constantly talking down about Catholicism or just Christianity in general, I would not keep my mouth shut. But that isn't the case here. Jester is dealing with a customer (probably not in a Christian store or other religiously affiliated place otherwise the customer probably would have expected it) and the customer clearly is not comfortable with that. It turns people off to Christ. And as Christians we are called to bring people to Him - not drive them away.
God Bless the president and his family this Christmas. What we need are more leaders willing to take a stand for Christianity and be willing to 'go out on a limb' to relay the real message of Christmas. If we allow people like Barbara Walters to continue to speak out against the Truth without defending it, we will lose the priviledge. We as Christians need to take back our country, after all our history and country have been based on a trust in God.
Barbara, dear, why don't you stop celebrating a Christian holiday if it offends you so? A personal card from a citizen (yes, even the president is given first amendment protection and privilages) provided by non-government funds (the RNC-this makes it private, not public), should not be so suprising when it is sent to a show that is joining in the festivities of the season (I assume; getting a card from EJ must mean you are participating). If you do not want Christians offending you with Christian messeges during a Christian holiday, refrain from the blasphemy of celebrating a Christian Holy Day as a pagen event. If you do not accept or believe in my savior, stop trying to take over our festival. (That's how they saw celebrations in the Old Testament; festivals)
If I put witches and black cats all over my yard in October and ran around saying happy halloween, I should not be so offended if I recieve a card from a witch!! Remember, I have the same right to speak my views as you; and you have the same right to ignore me as I do you. The difference; I don't fear the view as much as you apparently fear my God. I don't want you silenced; your "view" re-enforces our commitment to pray for our leaders who stand for right in the face of attacks from opponents of God.
Just as God protected, prospered, and blessed Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego for choosing Him over the kingdom's false gods, may God also protect, prosper, and bless President and Mrs Bush for their convictions!
While I have no love for "Baba Wawa", I think some of you are missing the point.
First, George Bush, Jr. isn't just a private citizen. He's the President of the United States. As such, sending such sectarian cards is an official act, and an offense to the Constitution.
Second, while I know you may consider this an effective proselytizing technique, consider the result. I doubt Ms. Walters will convert anytime soon.
Personally, I wouldn't make a fuss over receiving such a card. However, I take care to send Christmas cards to my Christian friends, Chanukah cards to my Jewish friends, and generic cards ("Seasons Greetings" or "Happy Holidays") to either or to those whose faith I don't know. You may call this "political correctness", but an earlier time called it "good manners!
ifeelfine.
yes, i know. i should keep my mouth shut and not talk about Jesus or God on this special occasion. I might offend someone. God forbid. I'm sure you'd feel different if you had a coworker or neighbor who constantly talked down about Catholicism. I guarantee you would not be keeping your mouth shut. But you'd rather keep your mouth shut about Jesus...than about the Pope.
Way to go Jester, You must be so proud that you turned yet another away. Good for you.
I never thought that Barbara Walters was so much allergic to the Bible verses. I lost all the
respect for her because her response was very substandard and crude. I will be ashmed
to watch any of her specials in the future.
I actually recieved a Hannukah card from a good Jewish friend of mine. I didn't even know they made them? I was tickled pink to get a card from him. I even called him up and thanked him for thinking of me and sending me a card.
You go, Prez Bush! You've got Wawa's panties all bunched up, and no one really cares if they are. Let her drivle on. The more she opens her mouth, the more she informs people of how "unintellegent" she is. (Im trying to be PC so i wont get flagged)
I have a customer I serve, and today I was talking to him about if he had all his Christmas shopping done. And he said no, that he and his wife aren't into that. So i said "oh, you must be jewish" and he said now and gave me a weird look. Between that, and the fact that he kept using the word "holiday" instead of Christmas, I gathered he was agnostic or athiest. So, kept going on about Christmas and what we were doing and stuff. i could tell he was a little uncomfortable...as i was leaving he said "Happy Holidays!" and turned, smiled and said "Thank you! And Merry Christmas to you too!" He just looked away and didn't say anythiing. I saw a lot of peace and joy in his life (sarcasm intended). Athiests must hate this time of year. The constant reminder that there really is a God, and you just can't shut the voices up. it's almost enough to make them become a backslidden athiest.
it is more tragic that a fading reporter that once had manners and real gifts, comes not to need publicity so badly she stoops to this. I have seen the slip in her reporting but now I see how far it has gone. God help the lady. She does not even have the good breeding to respect our President and his wife, not to mention a two thousand old celebration that comes from the scripture in the first place. Could we pray she will just 'fade away' and keep her mouth shut till that blessed day.
What a terribly tragedy that Miss Walters had to read a bible verse---and maybe even the word 'Christmas'. Has she suffered permanent damage from this shocking event? Will she sue?
How sad and stupid our nation has become. I pray for a revival in this nation that will make saying "Merry Christmas" a non criminal activity again. What a stupid shame that the devil and his followers are being allowed to flush this once great nation right down the toilet.
Funny, we always want to vote for a President who stands for something & doesn't flip back & forth. Yet once elected, we expect him to water everything down so he offends no one. Ms. Walters if someone asked you not to express your personal convictions whatever they may be, you would be the first to wave the red flag of censorship & discrimination. Yet when Christianity is the percieved majority, suddenly it is "they" who must be censored to not offend others. The Bush's are expressing thier personal convictions when they send a Christmas Card signed in thier own names. Granted it comes from the White House, which although quite political is thier home for now. There has to be a moment where we move on. For goodness sakes.
God bless George Bush for not being afraid of expressing his faith at this most important time of the year other than resurrection sunday. you know we have to spread the love of Christ wherever we go, but too many are worried about offending people. Jesus spoke the truth and was very divisive, and people do get offended by the truth, but we have to speak the truth and be bold, in lthe name of Jesus. My brothers and sisters, you have a voice, let it be heard, speak the truth and be prepared in season and out of season, spread the gospel , Jesus said "go"
For a world that accuses Christians of "looking for something to complain about" and being hypocrites, they sure do a great job of making themselves hypocrites with that very accusation because all I hear from the world is crying and complaining. Somebody says "Merry Christmas" and somebody else cries. Somebody sends a Christmas card and somebody else rants.
I don't know how the government is going to react to all of the complaining. I'm not sure how the school systems and the local businesses are going to change. What I do know is this. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. When I send a Christmas card it has scripture on it. If somebody is offended by that, I'm sure I can find another card with some scripture on it suitable to send them as an apology.
Barbara Walters is a dime a dozen. Just another voice among many uselessly flapping so that she can have the false sense that people actually care about her opinion.
"Don't you think it's a little interesting, continued Walters in her questioning, that the president of all the people is sending out a religious Christmas card?"
Yes, very interesting. And great! If my family can send out religious-themed cards at Christmas as a testimony of our love for God, they why can't the President? As Christians, we are called to honor the Lord. If we are going to submit to political pressure to tone things down because someone might be offended, then we are making the world our idol and have violated the first commandment. Good on the Bushes for putting their faith out there with their cards. I may not agree completely with all their politics, but as a fellow Christian I certainly stand by this statement of their faith.
You alone are the LORD. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you.
Amen.
The View host Barbara Walters told viewers she would not see another Gibson film...now she is finally showing her true self with regards to Christianity.
