For Barack Obama, it is an ember that he has doused time and again, only to see it flicker anew: links to Islam fanned by false rumors, innuendo and association. Obama and his campaign reacted strongly this week when a photo of him in Kenyan tribal garb began spreading on the Internet.

Obama defends himself as a devout Christian I am a Christian. I am a devout Christian. Ive been a member of the same church for 20 years. I pray to Jesus every night and try to go to church as much as I can. (Obama Uses Jesus' Sermon to Bolster Gay Civil Unions - Christian Post.) Okay then my brothers and sisters. Rom. 14:10 But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall ALL (empahsis added) stand before the judgement seat of Christ. Obama says he's a devout Christian. He may be lying, he may be telling the truth. Let's leave the judging for our Lord Jesus :)
ender says: "Thou shalt not murder does not come with special exception clauses."
I repect where you cme from and understand what you are saying. There is a distinct line that may need to be considered however. For example, in Romans 13 it is clear that God sets up authorities such as the police to protect, defend and institute law and order. Not only that, but sometimes we have to reckon with coming to terms with the worst evil: Would it be a righteous act to watch a murderer systematically kill hundreds of thousands of individuals, one by one and stand by doing nothing or maybe protest and be killed with them? Or would it be more righteous to recognize one's personal responsibility to defend the defenseless? (James & Isaiah).
how would you vote if your christian and the person who might be running for prez(obama) tells you that when jesus gave the sermon on the mount jesus said it was ok for same sex unions. WHO DO YOU VOTE FOR. for me i say not obama.
Perhaps so, but I will obey God's commandments. It took me too long to find God. All things have a price, obedience to God has one. I know it will be worth its price, of other things I can not know.

you're being a fool
murder does not constitiute assasination in this manner
if someone is killing millions of innocent people, he who kills that killer will be acting in defense of the poeple in the right mindset.
If Hitler was ruling the USA, by God i would take a gun and seek out his head with only one shot, and kill him. Because, to let him live would be a crime in and of itself for all mankind. What would Hitler be like today if he survived the war? Any idea how much power he can amass in secret?
From Indonesia,
If we suspect an individual to practice Islam then it should be very simple to verify whether he is indeed a practicing Muslim. Have him personally say in front of live TV that he is in fact an convert from Islam to Christianity HOWEVER LONG TIME AGO and specifically say that the murderous and pedophile Muhammad is a false prophet and the Qur'an, Hadith, Itjithad and Muhammad’s Sunnah are bunch of incoherent text from medieval desert warlord. –or the other way around have him say the Shahadat and renounce Christianity.
Conversion needs to be announced publicly, I believe this should be very easily done. Then usually the local Muslim mob tried to fire bomb Barack Obama’s house or family car since that is the standard operating procedure for this item listed in the Qur’an. Actually slitting their throat is the more standard.
Until that happen Barack Obama is a Muslim based on Indonesian Muslim viewpoint.
Good luck guys,

I was born shortly before JFK was assassinated, so I can't say that I support or opposed him. There was a time when I would've supported the assassination of Hitler, but now I can not. Thou shalt not murder does not come with special exception clauses. Perhaps without the genocide he attempted, the founding of Israel would not have found the necessary US support. I don't know. But I can not call myself a Christian and pick and choose which of God's laws to obey.
What??? You think we could get enough oil from anywhere else, if we didn't have the support of Saudi Arabia, this country would be in a world of hurt, you think $3 a gallon a gas is high now, if we wern't friends with Saudi arabia we would prolly be looking at upwards of $10 a gallon and forget about out economy when it hit $8 the economy would collapse, So just continue screaming about how bush caters to the Saudi Royal family and such because I guarantee that who ever take his place will have to do the same thing.
JHS "WHAT ABOUT THE BUSH FAMILY WHO HAS MADE MILLIONS WITH THEIR DEALING WITH THE SAUDI ROYAL FAMILY, AND I DON'T HEAR REPUBLICANS COMPLAIN ABOUT THAT. "
Indeed, I have been trying to point that out for a long time. Its OK by the US for a country to be autocratic if they are an ally of the US such as the Shah of Iran and Saddam Hussan and the corrupt autocratic royal family of Saudi Arabia. When allied dictators such as Saddam then oppose the interests of the US, they did become our enemy. Recall the photos of donald rumsfeld chumming up with saddam in the 1980 as saddam was gassing the Kurds- it was not big problem because he was a friend of the US. The US sold him weapons systems, he sold the US oil- he was a business partner of the US, just as the Saudi Royla family is now and the Shah of Iran was. Americans generally dont want to know this side of American foreign policy. Learn about US abuses in the ME for decades, and one will learn why 9-11 occured.

"When Christians are fooled it is a dreadful thing, we are suppose to be a light in the world, not a stump. "
fooled as by bush. By all accounts based on what I read on these posts by Christians, Christians should be opposed to bush for all the death and destruction he has created in Iraq.
flagged myself for typo
The Quality of the Person Can be more Important than the Experience
No prior job is training for the presidency exists, its almost all learned on the job. bush brought in all kinds of experience- cheney, rumsfeld, wolfowitz, perle, Negroponte, powell, bolton, feith, rice, roves to name a few experienced people. Look where that experience got the US- a disaster in Iraq resulting in the deaths and injury of perhaps a million people, the destruction of Iraq, over a trillion of dollars of additional US debt and counting from the Iraq debacle which has the US in Iraq for a long, long time that costs the average American family thousands of dollars per year. The Iraq debacle has created huge problems in Afghanistan. Had resources not been diverted to Iraq (which was not a threat to the US), Afghanistan might be a success story today instead of the disaster its becoming. bush may go down as the first US president to lose two wars. No other countries around the world are going to contribute much to those war efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan because of US arrogance, incompetence and bullying. The Iraq debacle is the worst foreign policy mistake in US history.......so much for all that experience.
Who we really need as president is someone like Sen. Obama that is intelligent, has good management and communication skills that can put a good team together, none of which bush is or has done. So far Obama has out witted all the other candidates with his superior campaign organization- he has not run out of money, he has had a good and consistent campaign strategy, he has not had to change course, he has not had to reshuffle his campaign staff- both clinton and mccain have had problems with all of those things. This tells me that Obama would make the better president.
Obama has more experience than Lincoln had and he turned out to be one of the greatest presidents of all time. Look at all the experience Nixon had, we know how that turned out.
Whats important is the person, not necessarily the experience. Obama has many, many qualities that make great leaders. He will be an effective presence on the world stage. He might even be able to get other countries to help us out in Iraq and Afghanistan after the failed bush admin. is long gone to the ash heap of history.
So you got the Job with no experience?
Nobody commented on what kunokiko said! It was really good too! That is just too bad...
Wiccan said, "For the record, Christianity has plenty of people who abuse it for their own agenda. Does that make you abandon Christianity? No, because you don't align yourself with those who do that. Obama's pastor is buddies with Farakkan; Obama has publicly denounced that and Farakkan's views. But that does not make his church as a whole a bad place to be. "
NO we don't abandon Christianity because some people abuse it, but we do leave the church if the pastor abuses his position. And sure, just because some (okay maybe a lot) of the things the pastor does is wrong doesn't make the whole church bad, but it is not Christian, and it is racist, so Obama should move to a normal church, if he really is Christian.
10+ years and still going strong!! NOTHING but high praise for my work ethic...
PRAISE THE LORD!!

All I am saying is that if you believe Sen. Obama is not qualified for the job, then by all means don't vote for him! If you believe he doesn't have the characteristics you want in a president, then don't vote for him!
I'm speaking to those who are stooping to the lowest common denominator by fearmongering and race-baiting - that is SO NOT modeling Christ's love!
And to answer your question: yes, I am in a VERY PRESTIGIOUS job that, on paper, I would not have normally qualified for because I don't have a juris doctor degree!! I had a KILLER interview, though.... :)
People are free to vote for whomever they choose. I'm going to vote as God leads me to do.
He is soverign, and His Word tells us to pray for all those in authority, as HE is the Only true authority and HE places people in positions/places as it pleases Him!
I'm voting for JESUS CHRIST! He is LORD and He's already saved the world! Too bad the world is too busy trying to do what He's already done!!
I'm more concerned if Obama knows Jesus as His personal Savior. I know the times and the days are in God's Hands!
Even in the Nation of Israel in Biblical days, if the King was obedient to God and His Word, the nation flourished, when the King was not obedient and went astray from God, the nation suffered!!! Hmm, I'll probably get stoned for my comment here, but that's okay, see folks God is the one who is truly in charge here, whether you acknowledge Him or not!
My prayer is that whomever God allows to be President, this person, will know Jesus Christ personally and acknowledge Him and that our nation will repent before Almighty God for the evil that exists in our nation and God will come and heal our land!
In Jesus Name, Amen
From www.answering-islam.org :
"As we examine this topic we note that a recent Sunni publication has criticised the Shia community for their use of, amongst other things, Taqiyya (not manifesting the faith openly). It states:
"Contrary to the universal and basic teachings of all religions, Shiaism teaches its followers to conceal their faith and hide their beliefs. Two of their basic beliefs known as Kithman and Taqiyya are primarily designed to achieve just such a purpose. The belief in Kithman commands the Shias to conceal their religion from the non-Shias. The following two Hadith from the sixth Shia Imam clearly elaborate this point:
Imam Jafar Sadiq (R) said: "One, who exposes something from our religion is like one who intentionally kills us." {Ft. #1 Usool al Kafi, p.88}
Imam Jafar Sadiq (R) said: "You belong to a religion that whosoever conceals it, Allah will honour him and whosoever reveals it, Allah will disgrace him." {Ft. #2, Ibid, p.522}
Furthermore the belief in Taqiyya commits the Shias to put up a hypocritical show and to act in such a way that the non-Shias may never be exposed to the real Shiaism. It even allows them to tell a lie if their intention is to hide their religion from the non-Shias.
Change We Can Believe In? Why are there so many nonChristian supporting Obama? He has not shown anything worth trusting. He been using a lot of fancy words. Words have power the Bible tells us this. But words without works are spoken in vain. Some Christian are being pulled in because they do not take the Bible as doctrine first else they would follow God example. When Christians are fooled it is a dreadful thing, we are suppose to be a light in the world, not a stump.
Those of you allegedly modeling Christ's love QUIT the race-baiting, fearmongering ALREADY! Vote for or against Sen. Obama because of his stand on the issues.
What has he stood on? O wait, He does keep saying do you believe we can change this nation? Yes I do. Faith is not about false hope. Even demons believe and tremble.
If I believe I could be a doctor and never went to college, what hospital would hire me? I could tell them I belive I have the potential to do the job. Would you be willing to be my first patient on my belief alone PDF? Did your job hire you on a I believe?
It's simple, folks: Obama has not yet even finished one full term in the Senate. With the enormously complex issues facing the next president (thanks to the *current* president) I ask one simple question: IS THIS THE TIME FOR ON-THE-JOB TRAINING?? For all of Obama's eloquence, Obama is patently naive (direct meetings with Chavez and Kim Jong-Il??). If we send a child to do a man's job, we'll be sorry. Mark my words.
Those of you allegedly modeling Christ's love QUIT the race-baiting, fearmongering ALREADY! Vote for or against Sen. Obama because of his stand on the issues, not because of something so insignificant as his middle name!
voting is not a privilege.
it is a right basic to the constitution. anyone who would so thoughtlessly advocate taking away that right simply because they don't like way someone is going to vote has no understanding of the Constitution or America.
Moreover any attempt to achieve such an action is a serious felony which should be dealt with to the maximum penalty allowed under the law.
He also compared Obama to Fard Muhammad saying, A black man with a white mother became a savior to us. A black man with a white mother could turn out to be one who can lift America from her fall. . . . .If a leading Muslim has that much faith in a man who calls himself a christian doesn't it make you question exactly what kind of "christian" he is.
Seventy-four year old Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan has joined the chorus of those who speak of Obama in messianic terms. Farrakhan did not specifically endorse Obama but in a rambling address in front of over 20,000 people, oddly enough in celebration of Saviours Day, he called Obama, the hope of the entire world that America will change and be made better.
I don't think we have to question whether or not he has ties to Islam or not.
truthfulwitness, you are truly ignorant. Here's the facts about the school:
http://www.barackobama.com/factcheck/2007/11/12/obama_has_never_been_a_muslim_1.php#no-muslim-school
As for his middle name, do you honestly think that all those years ago, his parents had some psychic flash that it would be funny to name him after an upcoming dictator?
THEY HAVE TRIED TO LINK HIM TO ISLAM BECAUSE OF HIS BACKGROUND......WHAT ABOUT THE BUSH FAMILY WHO HAS MADE MILLIONS WITH THEIR DEALING WITH THE SAUDI ROYAL FAMILY, AND I DON'T HEAR REPUBLICANS COMPLAIN ABOUT THAT.
Senator Obama will make a good president. In all probability, he will be President Barrack Obama starting in January 2009, he has my vote.
truthfulwitness: "Any American who is dumb enough to vote for a man that went to a muslim school and is named Hussein should have their voting priveleges revoked. "
This is what your represent - Hate and Ignorance.
truthfulwitness is a liar!
ender,
You wouldn't have supported the assassination of Hitler before or during WWII? Did you support JFK? He tried to have Castro assassinated.
Sorry about all the typos before, I hope it was still understandable to everyone. I would also like to comment that Jeremy Wright has also stated many times where he thinks that the Jewish community was illegally holding the holy land from the palestinians. Now, I'm sure that any true Christians knows that the holy land was promised to Abraham's descendents, the Jews. And God always keeps his promise. So...I would even dare to say that I believe that in the eyes of God and any true Christian, Jerusalem belongs to the Jews. And the Jews reclaiming of the holy land is simply the fulfillment of scripture.
Topekan, how is his church as a whole racist? Just curious.
For the record, Christianity has plenty of people who abuse it for their own agenda. Does that make you abandon Christianity? No, because you don't align yourself with those who do that. Obama's pastor is buddies with Farakkan; Obama has publicly denounced that and Farakkan's views. But that does not make his church as a whole a bad place to be.
I think that His church and pastor too strong on their cultural zeal. The whole idea behind black liberation theology is that the bible is a story about the struggles or colored people and that because they have had so many stuggles they are able to have a better understanding of scripture than anyone else. This seems to be cultural pride that kinda steps over the line into being discriminatory. And as the matter of face, it would seem that many of the sermons that Jeremy Wright have given contain slight racism as he considers America to be "White America." And his infamous comment about 9-11 that "White America and the Western world came to realize people of color had not gone away, faded in the woodwork, or just disappeared as the Great White West kept on its merry way of ignoring black concerns. Such comments would appear to be racist to many. I'm sure if we where to switch all the Whites to Blacks and Blacks to Whites in that comment it would be even easier to see the racism in those remarks. Now, I think that Obama has been smart enough to not get into any conversations publicly about race. But that leads us to think of two things. Well, if Obama "Spiritual mentor" has such a racist view on American and in Christianity, what might be some of the views of American and Christianity that Obama has. Now I know that Obama has stated many times that he and his pastor does not agree on everything. But if I had walked into a Church which gave sermons which a racist tone to it, I would probably not go to that Church anymore. The fact that Obama continues to go to that Church and has kept his pastor, Jeremy Wright, so close to him as his family says two things. Either he believes in all the things preached by Jeremy Wright at heart and is just hiding it from the American public, or he just simply doesn't have a good sense of judgement for his spiritual mentor and church. Either view would make him not very suited for being the leader of our nation.
Regarding "Black Theology":
There are books by James Cone and others that will help to understand the position of black theology and its development. In an elementary way, a summation of black theology is a form of liberation theology to bring justice and freedom to African Americans in spiritual, economic and political activism. The rise of black theology escalated due to the lack of response by the Church as a whole, especially during the times of slavery and in the Civil Rights Movement in the 50s and 60s.
Regarding Barack and His Pastor:
I think it is fair game to research his church, his pastor, and his Christian beliefs. However, because his pastor espouses a position does not mean Barack follows with blinders on. Already, many would like to frame him as someone to fear because the hope message cannot be true. McCain is trying to do it but in a sensitive way; get ready for an interesting race.
JM, Topekan: I don't hear anybody freaking out about the Greek Orthodox Church, the Russian Orthodox church, or any other church proud of its ethnic heritage. But when it comes to African-Americans, ethnic pride in a church is suddenly evil. That hypocrisy is called racism.
I am very concerned when disparging remarks are made against any of the presidential candidates that are categorically false. The majority on this forum would support a Republican candidate, stating that they are more "family values" and "biblical" in their approach to politics. There are others who support the Democrats because they see a real effort in working on the issues of poverty, environment, war that they consider to be neglected for 8 years. Whatever your position, to pass false statements because its convenient is disheartening, especially from believers of Christ.
The probably nominee Senator Barack Obama and nominee Senator John McCain will have a civil campaign because both men are honorable in their approach. I am concerned about their supporters who would rather see ugliness. I pray that the Church will not be pigeon-holed again by putting total support in one candidate and seeing very little happen for the cause of Christ in the White House.
If you supported GW Bush, I am sure you had great intentions and motives. However, he has the lowest presidential rating in a generation. In fact, these ratings has caused the likes of Barack Obama to rise even higher. Even many Republicans are disappointed in this presidency. If Barack becomes president, will American Christians continue to attack the man without seeing how we could see the cause of Christ prosper? If John becomes president, will we not challenge him just because it is assumed Republicans are more Christian than Democrats (which by the way is not a true statement, but assumed in the mass media)?
I think the knee pads are in order, ladies and gentlemen.
JM, Sunday is the most segregated hour in the United States. I am not a pastor, but a pastoral ministry student at a Bible college the emphasizes multi-cultural ministry. I my church visits, I find that a good portion of churches are either white, black, or latino, but no good balance of all three. It seems that Obama's church wishes to preach the Gospel while preserving black culture and heritage. To get a better understanding of the African-American spiritual journey, there's a great PBS documentary called "This Far By Faith," and might be interesting for you to check it out.
Does anybody know anything about Obamas Church, or "Black Theology"? I know very little about it, and cannot find any paster who is willing to say a whole lot. Is his church racist, or just misunderstood.
I wonder where these rumors are originating from. There are several camps that would have a vested interest in damaging his campaign.
Personally, I admire McCain for the service he's performed for his country. I can not say the same for Pat Robertson. Anyone claiming to be a man of God and advocates assassination as a form foreign policy is not someone who's political advice I would heed.
"My concern is temperament. [McCain] has kept his temper under control during this entire primary season," notes [Paul] Weyrich. "... But I am concerned about temperament. As Pat Robertson said, 'We've got to be concerned about a man who blows up frequently in having his finger on the nuclear button.'"

While Obama is busy combatting false views concerning his religion, John McCain is just as busy combatting false views concerning his position on abortion. I urge you, brothers and sisters, to check his record. I am not personally aligned completely with this man, but more than anything else in this country right now, we need a man who can reach across the aisle and *GET THINGS DONE.*
Whether you love Bush or not (I voted for him twice, his father twice), the simple fact is that America is an incredible mess under his watch. Now, more than ever, it is time to put our hardcore ideologies aside for the good of this wonderful country. I urge you, brothers and sisters, to ignore the catterwalling coming from many Christian leaders and the far right who (disgustingly) are URGING CHRISTIANS NOT TO VOTE AT ALL, and please consider carefully the candidacy of John McCain.
Like him or not, check his record and ask yourself "Why is the far right SO upset with this man?" He was beaten and tortured in Vietnam in the service of America (ever notice that he can't lift his arms above shoulder-level?), his integrity is impeccable, and his military pedigree can see us through the conflict in Iraq.
If nothing else, anything is better than the specter of a President Obama.
If you are a Democratic voter, this just adds more to the confusion.
If you are a Republican voter then you are just laughing your head off.
If you are an Independant voter then it's really time to consider the likes of Ralph Nader.
If you are a Christian then you should really be praying for God to "show you the way".
But be patient listening for the answer. (Note: I did not say waiting)
And If you are not interested in voting at all, then its still going to be fun to watch.
